  • Introducing a new project Subaru WRX, and how we got it working again with a Cobb Accessport tune from Drive Auto Sports in Woodinville, Washington.

    Buying a project car from someone else is not without its fair share of pitfalls. Case in point: how do you tune an engine when you don't know what has been done to it?

    If you had a 2004 WRX "just sitting around" which modifications would you do it?

      TEIN coilovers, Cobb stage 2, Cobb Downpipe, 17x9's with some MEATY tires and call it a day. Good DD + Autox setup.

    Transmission cooler, needed when you start upping the power. Proper trans flush as well. Upgraded top mount and efr 6258 twin scroll. Check crank pulley to make sure they didn't put a lightweight aluminum one on and consequently lost the harmonic balancer.

    First.
    I loved my '04 WRX more than '14 WRX hatch I had. Good luck with the built, and the automatic makes it interesting and unique.

    If money is no object, I would do away with the 4eat and replace it with a jdm(If USDM is not readily avail. $$ wise) 6sp along with supporting mods(ie.. 180 Rear Diff., etc..), THEN retune, to recalibrate those lost ponies. Which in turn nets you a very usable awd system.
    I too, purchased an '04 new in late '03 and loved every minute of it.

    Man, you really should have done a maintenance round on the car before having them tune it. Spark Plugs should have been one of the first things you do so they don’t have to worry about it on the dyno.

    Seam weld and stiffen the chassis, upgrade the bushings and suspension. Totally opposite of what everyone does.

    • @JesterialInsanity
      @JesterialInsanity 5 лет назад +1

      OCTurboJoe Seam welding seems a bit overkill on an Automatic daily driven WRX but Ok 😂
      Bushings and Suspension overhaul though on that 14 year old chassis though is a smart and relatively inexpensive move.

    • @octurbojoe
      @octurbojoe 5 лет назад

      @@JesterialInsanityOlder cars are flimsy, the GC is even worse. Your upgraded suspension and bushings aren't worth a damn if the chassis is still flexing.
      On the other hand, you can always swap out the 4EAT drivetrain for a 6MT.

    Tuning a Subaru and then automatic swapping it and deleting the wing is absolutely blasphemous. How can you even say that driving manual in traffic is too hard, whoever thinks that shouldn’t be allowed this car

  • @hughfoster9632
    @hughfoster9632 3 года назад

    WRXs should not come with an auto, defeats the entire purpose of the car.
