- Introducing a new project Subaru WRX, and how we got it working again with a Cobb Accessport tune from Drive Auto Sports in Woodinville, Washington.

Buying a project car from someone else is not without its fair share of pitfalls. Case in point: how do you tune an engine when you don't know what has been done to it?

If you had a 2004 WRX "just sitting around" which modifications would you do it?
TEIN coilovers, Cobb stage 2, Cobb Downpipe, 17x9's with some MEATY tires and call it a day. Good DD + Autox setup.
Driving Sports TV everything you have and probably go with a bigger turbo and a sti transmission
Full bolt on left over parts from my 16 STI including tgv delete with tune before doing a drivetrain upgrade to maintain reliability
First of My 2004 wrx would be black
1. STI wing
2. All STI splitters
3. Coilovers slightly lowered and cambered
4. XXR 527 wheels in gold colour
5. Full HKS exhaust with catless down pipe
6. Bigger injectors
7. STI turbo
8. Induction kit
9. Front mount intercooler
10. SSQV Blow off valve
11. Stage 1 tune
12. Full windows tinted
13. Boost gauge setup in the center
14. Rev limiter
It's so awesome to hear it finally running! Can't wait to see some more videos as you bring it back to it's former glory!
Great report. First time be ever seen a tuneup like this. Amazing technology. Sure looks like fun.
Loved the video! Im looking at getting a 02 wrx hopefully I'll get lucky!
I believe you have a wrx premium because of the sunroof option. Kudos
Ryan, Do you have an update to this video? I am looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for this daily driver.
Looks like a super fun daily !
Transmission cooler, needed when you start upping the power. Proper trans flush as well. Upgraded top mount and efr 6258 twin scroll. Check crank pulley to make sure they didn't put a lightweight aluminum one on and consequently lost the harmonic balancer.
First.
I loved my '04 WRX more than '14 WRX hatch I had. Good luck with the built, and the automatic makes it interesting and unique.
thats me right i have a 14 wrx hatch and i love it alot but i also have a 2003 wrx sedan and i love that more than my hatch its crazy
If money is no object, I would do away with the 4eat and replace it with a jdm(If USDM is not readily avail. $$ wise) 6sp along with supporting mods(ie.. 180 Rear Diff., etc..), THEN retune, to recalibrate those lost ponies. Which in turn nets you a very usable awd system.
I too, purchased an '04 new in late '03 and loved every minute of it.
Man, you really should have done a maintenance round on the car before having them tune it. Spark Plugs should have been one of the first things you do so they don’t have to worry about it on the dyno.
what is the WHP on a 2004 stock WRX?
Awesome 🖒🖒🖒
How much does a dyno tune cost?
Take all the pink sti logos off the outside and its a pretty cool car 👍
before doing more mods do a whole engine reseal and timing belt kit
Please take care of all those swirls.
My 2004 sti is currently tuned but I'm unsure about what stage I ordered the accesport and I dont know which stage to select?
Baby steps. Try a stage one if you don’t have any other mods yet.
@@drivingsports I've just got basic bolt ons
If I had a spare WRX it would get the track car treatment
Jesus did Ray Charles use a rotary buffer on that thing? You need a good detailer.
I have a 5mt and diff etc for sale in WA if interested ;)
Kevin?
Yea your right who breaks in a car to take the stereo haha. Maybe he was going to take the car saw it was a automatic and took the radio instead 😂😂
Get a vf34!!
Seam weld and stiffen the chassis, upgrade the bushings and suspension. Totally opposite of what everyone does.
OCTurboJoe Seam welding seems a bit overkill on an Automatic daily driven WRX but Ok 😂
Bushings and Suspension overhaul though on that 14 year old chassis though is a smart and relatively inexpensive move.
@@JesterialInsanityOlder cars are flimsy, the GC is even worse. Your upgraded suspension and bushings aren't worth a damn if the chassis is still flexing.
On the other hand, you can always swap out the 4EAT drivetrain for a 6MT.
Holy shit he said so many “parts” on that “list of mods” wrong or they don’t exist lol. Sorry but how do you have any background in Subaru’s lol. Half your age and I know plenty more.
what ever happened with this project?
Sold it due to lack of interest.
+1, they should attach human and tune the DNA ;-)
Massive L on the lightweight pulley
I'd turn it into a Miata
Tuning a Subaru and then automatic swapping it and deleting the wing is absolutely blasphemous. How can you even say that driving manual in traffic is too hard, whoever thinks that shouldn’t be allowed this car
WRXs should not come with an auto, defeats the entire purpose of the car.
