Just picked up a Limited trim on a lease. This is my 3rd EV... 2013 LEAF > 2013 Model S > 2024 Solterra.
I was a little concerned on the range and charging specs when compared to it's competition, however after a few days driving it seems Subaru / Toyota really sandbagged on the range. I'm averaging 3.8kWk per mi. The level 3 charging may not be up to the latest and greatest speeds offered by others in the segment, but it's better than the 2013 Model S I came from, so that's a win.
The quality of the car as a whole, features, and a complete absence of vampire drain while parked, make this EV better in the real world than on paper.

That’s cool, I’m from ON too and planing use in that area, further east actually, Haliburton, but value the AWD and high ground clearance, rare for most EVs. Agreed too on the buttons, digital controls are sketchy and annoying🎉

Thanks for your comment! Are you considering getting the Solterra for yourself? Feel free to share any questions you have, and I'd be happy to help!

@@barriesubaru3345 oh no I have a new Crosstrek, great car, I just keep my eye on the EV market for the future. Thanks for the offer, I’ll keep it in mind. Seems like it’s the best EV right now for off road.

Excellent ,thank you ! You addressed criteria affecting range in a very clear way to people like myself who are close to changing . Was it the high level spec car you were driving with 20" wheels ? Do they impact range ? Hugo

The larger the wheel, the lower the range (for the same spec vehicle).

Do you guys use the s-pedal? If so, how often? Wondering if leaving it on most of the time, even in the highway, is a good thing.

Well that's quite the road trip. Now try it doing 338klm trip at 40C on a 400 series highway. you will need to recharge at 3/4 of the way if you stay at 100kph. Try it at 0C and you will need to charge up halfway. You guys didn't charge up so you missed the wonderful 1.5 hour charge time from SOC of 20% to 80%. Also why didn't you mention you can only do 2 Fast charges in 24 hours, try that third one and it's a 10 hour + stop because of the software restrictions they don't mention. No this is not a trip car at all it is a commuter car. By the way that backup beeper is not outside, at least not in mine, just an irritating seat belt like noise inside the car. Oh and 100kph on a 400 series road is almost a suicide run these days.

Who is the maker of the battery used in Solterra ??

A road trip so short that it doesn't require charging is not a road trip. I've driven 1,000 miles (1609 km) in a single day lots of times. Not in an EV. The most I've done in an EV per day is 750 miles (1207 km). If you can't do that, it's not a real car.

Run away from 2023 Subaru Solterra! I’m experiencing serious issues with 2023 Subaru Solterra electric vehicle. This EV is performing poorly and charging slowly. Cold weather causes about 50% 2023 Subaru Solterra reduction in range. Driving 2023 Subaru Solterra on snow can be dangerous. This vehicle is designed for the Japanese market. 2023 Subaru Solterra is not equipped to handle Michigan winter driving conditions. I was treated unfairly and dishonestly by LaFontaine Subaru dealer.

I was in at the initial deposit stage... and then Out Of Spec Reviews did the review on the (battery identical) AWD version of the Toyota bZ4X which took over an hour to go from 0% to 80% and couldn't even get up to 100% after 4½ hours at a 350kW DC Fast Charger. I canceled my order.
For comparison: EV Pulse compared the bZ4X / Solterra AWD to the slightly cheaper Hyundai IONIQ 5 AWD (which has a similar-sized battery pack and great battery preconditioning) - the IONIQ 5 charged from 1% to 80% in 20 minutes (matching Hyundai's claim that it'll charge 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes) and hit 100% after 52 minutes (and that includes a battery cooldown after switching chargers). They also had issues with the Subaru / Toyota battery - they were hooked up for more than three hours up to 95% before calling it quits.
      ruclips.net/video/F_cQQuQ8ww8/видео.html
Subaru have promised that they have improved battery preconditioning and improved the charging curve for their 2024 Solterra. As of March 7th, there are no videos on RUclips showing a comprehensive charging session of the newer Subaru EV (or showing charging of any kind). Considering that Subaru said the 2023 can charge to 80% in under an hour (it couldn't) and now says the 2024 can go 10% to 80% in 35 minutes, I would highly recommend you wait for Out Of Spec or EV Pulse to fully review the 2024 model - ESPECIALLY ITS CHARGING PROWESS - before making a move for one.
