    I expect King Charles banknotes will coexist for some time alongside the current ones, gradually becoming more common as worn notes are taken out of circulation. As for coins, while it's true that decimalisation killed off most of George VI coins, the one and two shilling coins remained in use (for 5p and 10p coins) alongside the new coins as they were the same size. I remember getting the occasional King George coins in change right up to the redesigned smaller coins came in. I believe the number of coins minted every year has been falling recently so it could be a very long time before the Elizabeth coins disappear. I wouldn't expect a large changeover event of the kind you get with notes.

    I'm pretty sure the two florin coin survived decimalisation and continued as the 10p coin, alongside newer versions, until the early nineties. Some of those two florin coins still had King George VI's head on. I'd be grateful if somebody could confirm this. Thinking about it, I also think the old shilling coin survived until the early nineties, too, alongside newer 5p coins.

      I'm not really a collector but I do have an old 1807 coin with George III on it. When I got to that part of the video I had to get up and find it on my shelf to look at it, run through the list of monarchs in my head, and make sure he's facing right.
      I guess Edward VIII, ever stubborn against tradition, chose to face left in what few coins were made with his likeness, just because he preferred that side. When George VI took the throne he then faced left, acting as if the tradition had held and his brother had faced to the right.

The Pipe bands played a significant rôle as they were her favourite. Operation London Bridge is the name of one of the plans.

They hand pick the music and what officials to invite or not to invite. When Princess Diana died, the Queen Mother's funeral arrangements were dusted and updated. Everybody's knees where shaking what the late Queen was going to say when she sees her own plans altered and when she realised that she had to come up with a new plan.

      He may not even choose "Charles" as his reigning name! Charles I and II have tainted the name through their conflicts with Parliament. It's not uncommon for monarchs to choose a different name from their "main" one to be known as when crowned. For instance, king Edward VIII was called David in private.
      Prince Charles' full name is Charles Philip Arthur George, so he has a few options to choose from! He might opt to become George VII instead of Charles III.

    • @princevesperal
      @princevesperal 3 года назад +43

      @TheRenaissanceman65 I believe Edward VIII ought to count, as David was his "usual" name. That is the name his friends and relatives called him.
      This means that four out of the last seven British monarchs have been crowned under a name other than their usual one. It may not have been as common in the past, but it seems to have become rather normal in the past 200 years!
      I guess we'll only know Charles' decision in a few decades, when the Queen prematurely dies in a tragic accident at age 129.

    Old coins would be around for a long time. Even after decimalisation in the early 70s you could still find coins with King George VI on them as the old one shilling and two shilling coins were used as 5 and 10p coins. While rare they only completely disappeared when the new smaller 5 and 10p coins were introduced in the early 90s.

    There's a mistake at 1:52 - the half-penny shown is a decimal one. The pre-decimal ones are much larger. The half-penny was kept in the decimal system to allow more accurate conversions from pre-decimal coinage, but were quickly phased out.

    • @dieseldragon6756
      @dieseldragon6756 Год назад

      I think this was to ensure forward-compatibility for the half crown, which (Converting to decimal) was worth 12,5p.
      As it would’ve been wholly impractical to demonetise/withdraw the half crown on D-Day (And result in a lot of peed-off shoppers!) providing a way it could continue to be used and then taking them out of circulation at banks and post offices was a much more sensible way to go about it. 👍🏽
      The 0,5p coin was eventually withdrawn in 1982, but the Royal Mint coin set for 1983 (Designed before the coin was withdrawn) still had a 0,5p coin in it. 🙂

      Last time around even the Australian republicans were so sure the monarchy would be ditched at a referendum that they went ahead with it. In the end it turned out that the people were very happy with the system. The democratic way of government it keeps a lid on, and the economic prosperity that most people can enjoy under it... So they bothered to show up and cast their votes to support the continuation of the monarchy.

    I’ll be sad to see the Queen leave the Canadian 20, there’s just something about her expression that’s so calming. Once when I was lost, I held onto my $20 dollar for comfort. And to a young me, it felt like the Queen was comforting me until I could find my mother.

    One shilling & Two shilling George VI coins dating from 1947-1951 were still in circulation when I was a child in the 1970s because one shilling was 5p & 2 shillings were 10p. They were withdrawn from circulation circa 1990-92 when the 5p & 10p coins were replaced with smaller versions to make coinage in our pockets lighter.

    Is there a comprehensive book available that might have all the information as to the individual countries , what currencies they use, and what those currencies look like. I am in the beginning stages of looking for foreign currencies and am hoping a book like that would help me. Thanks in advance for any info that might help me learn.

      We flipping love the Queen on our currency over here in the UK. She is so pretty and regal. I think lots of people want to change it due to their uneducated look about royalty and about the Queen. In England we like programmes about history and we have lots of costume dramas that show the life of the Queen. I suggest that you find BBC or ITV costume dramas about the Queen because they can be very accurate and it can show you an insight into her life.
