Rad Racer 2 NES - No Continue Run

- Rad Racer 2 unpolished full run without any continues or 'lives' loss (there are crashes but crashes makes things exciting!). Not nearly as fun as Rad Racer (no engine sound is a huge backwards step), but still quite challenging. There is a lot of 'forced' car encounters that I think cheapen the game, unless you played the stage before chances are you will crash (like happened to me in Stage 8 that I hadn't played in a long time grrr).

It's been god knows how many years and I've never forgotten these songs exactly as they are, I finally found this game as I was too young to even remember the name of the game.
man thanks for that video! so many old memories came from that, like a blast to my childhood.
I love the annotation you did at 20:02. I cracked up.
The clouds in each level is pretty cool in the day time courses and pretty realistic to the climate. From the rising clouds in Florida to the flat clouds in the Pennsylvania/ Gettysberg course to the low clouds in the San Francisco course, and to the few tiny clouds in the desert course. Fits the climate with Thunderstorms in Florida, rain climate in Gettysberg, and to Fog/low clouds in SF.
It goes to show how detailed this game actually was for its time. Reason Im saying this is look at the details of the second night time race of the big apple. You can clearly see the twin towers. Very impressive!
Definitely one of the BEST NES games. It's very similar to Sega's OutRun :)
Honestly, I think the lack of engine sounds is made up for by the much-better music. That extra square wave works wonders.
It's probably one of the better racing games on the system.

I was doing some web surfing then during my travels found a little Highway in CA known as State Route 138. It is referred to as Blood Alley or Death Trap Highway on the Slaughter Alley List at Wikipedia. This has remarkable resemblance to Twilight CA Stage 7.
This game seems more like a remake than a sequel. The levels look almost identical.

It's been years since I played this! Thank you for the memories. I have tried to play this game online but can't get the music to play. Anybody have the same problem? Know how to get the music to play during the game?

trying to figure out all the cars in this game, which is tough because there is so much sprite flicker. I see Nissan 300 ZX (could be a trans-am or camaro, its hard to tell), Mazda Miata, Lamborghini Diablo, Porsche 911, VW Bugs, Corvette... anything I'm missing?
As a kid, I didn't know about the turbo or the power charge. I have no idea how I ever made it as far as stage 4 without those two things, lol.

hahaha. I played this so much, that when I turned 16 and prepared to pull out of the driveway, my father made the "woopwoopwoopwoopwoopwoop" noise. I told him i didn't think the car would go 255 MPH, but i'd sure as hell try!
I have no idea how I made it through a major chunk of the game not knowing how to do the power charge.
yes rad racer II has some troubles with the engine sound but tha music is great!! xD i can listen it all day xD
How do you get music to play???
@donald270 Yep, in Rad Racer II you only get engine sound if you play no music. One of the reasons why I don't like Rad Racer II as much as the original.
