  • Our personal "Enchanted Tiki Room" birds, which made their debut at Lexi's Luau
    This setup consisted of four squawkers mccaws rewired and synced to a personalized soundtrack that was programmed with
    raspberry pi 3 and lightsequence (connected to an 8-channel relay). Final touches were made to replicate the look of the original "Tiki Room" characters.

    I KNOW its a 4yr old thread, but those stumbling upon it now, I used the large Sharpie markers to change the color of the Fur (feathers) .. using Color Wheel, realize that using one color will not make it THAT particular color, but will change it to a third color .. Yellow marker on Blue wings will make the wings Green. Red marker on Yellow fur will make Orange body .. so plan ahead what color you want.

    can you provide any more insight on how you split 4 channels of audio and the lighting raspberry pi?

    • @raychu420
      @raychu420  Год назад +1

      i left the audio to 2 channels (L/R). The spotlights were connected via relays (same that control the birds) and programmed them to come on when the birds were talking to help bring focus to them

    This is incredible - I’ve been working on something similar. How did you manage to recolor the squawkers? That’s by far the best custom job I’ve seen on them, I’ve been going crazy trying to figure out the best way to go about it

    Hey love the video! I actually have 4 Squawkers and 4 Squawker Talker Boards and am trying to create a mini Tiki Bar with a condensed version of the Enchanted Tiki Room. I was wondering how you separated each audio channel with each AUX cord and had it play and sync to one show? I am using a raspberry pi to program the functioning of the birds and have each bird separated on mono tracks in Audacity, but right now am having some trouble figuring out how to sync all four birds audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

      Hey sorry for the extremely late reply! (I turned off notifications)
      So I did buy an audio splitter (I believe it was 16 ch) back in the day in the hopes of wiring a small speaker to a rotating perch for each bird. This was going to be a permanent installation back when I was brainstorming. But lack of space, running out of time, and the need to make it portable for my girls birthday parties forced me to keep it simple and just use the regular L/R. On the raspberry pi, I had it (song) run simultaneously with the program "lightsequence" with a file I had compiled which synced 8 signals (4 four the birds and 4 for their spotlights). The audio bluetoothed (sp?) to some portable speakers (also audio out to bigger hardwired speakers if available). then the lightsequence program split the midi file that I created into different channels that activated 8 relays which sent the on/off signals to whatever I wanted to control (either the bird beaks or the lights).
      As for your query of running audio at the same time, I don't have too much knowledge of the squawker talker boards, but I think they operate based on audio frequency. if you want more than one to respond to it's own track, you might have to software join all the tracks to a 4 channel "song". Then give each bird it's own channel. That way, when the signal gets sent out, one bird only gets the signal on that track, and it'll look like they are singing together.

    Wondering how you modified their skins? I’m considering buying feathers and gluing on, but it looks like you might have had custom skins made?

      Sorry for the late reply, I used fabric spray from Tulip called "Color Shot" to change the color of the birds. I admit, it changes the texture of them and it is no longer soft but stiff. It's usually put to use on t-shirts but it was the only coloring spray rated for cotton.

    This is EPIC!!! what did you use to program the voices?

    • @raychu420
      @raychu420  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! I used a program on the web called onlinesequencer where I uploaded the soundtrack and manually pressed the notes for each individual bird and light synced in time to the music.

    Is Michael supposed to have a single working mouth? He doesn’t move his body throughout the video, so I’m just curious as to if that’s the case. Future suggestion too, Pierre’s wings normally have a red and dark blue color scheme.

      Good observation. The middle two were damaged during the project and are static except their beaks so I stuck the moving ones to the sides! Thanks for the suggestion!

      Research the program lightsequence for the raspberry pi. Custom coding needs to be made to sync the birds and the lights(which are connected to relays) to the music. It took me about 4 months to learn everything but now I can get them to sing about anything (depending on how much time I have on my hands)

      That's amazing! I would love to see what he looks like after all those years. Im pretty certain the workings of my birds are completely different than the original, in that it uses straight digital signals and electric motors vs reels of magnetic tape, but there could be a commonality....

    Ive no idea how to reprogram my squakers. i found mine at a goodwill missing his perch and accessories. he works but....not so much..his light sensor is messed up so he is esentially blind and complains about not being able to see anyone. i thought he was deaf too but he will respond to claps. i'm actually more interested in how to change their physical aperance someone spilled wax on mines tail and wings and i've been trying to clean if for a while.

      You can remove the "fur" and try soaking in in hot water to melt the wax

      Thank you for your interest but this is more of a point of concept project that is not for sale at this time. These fellas are still a work in progress, as I will be upgrading their perches and song list (whenever i have the time!). They have definitely come a long way from the beginning but I still have a lot more planned before moving on to a more commercial product!
