what sold me was: - rounded look - darker finish for added corrosion protection - marksman barrel - flat grip vs gen 3 finger grooved - weight and high quality it really is a sexy ass gun!!
Really enjoyed this review. One of the most in depth videos I've seen so far. Great job. I own a gen 2, 3, and 4 but I don't think I'll be rushing out to purchase a 5. I do like the improvements glock has made with the gen 5 and I think they did what most wanted them to do. Me personally, I'm happy with the glocks I currently own.
Lo más especial de esta arma es la sujeción y el gatillo..créanme no hace falta que sea automática es rapidísimo al disparar...nunca había probado nada igual...Pruébalo te la recomiendo
Even after 4 years later still the best and most informative right to the point video! on the Glock gen 5 I've found! I've been carrying Glocks since 2007! and am very glad I saw this video! thanks so much I am also a new subscriber to your channel.
Greetings from Belgium! The best and most detailed review of all that I saw! Special thanks for the voice acting, very everything is pronounced clearly, precisely, and most importantly not very quickly ... ( it's very important for foreigners) ..... Thank you sir!
Man one of if not the best comparison video iv seen . yeah i was slow to pick up a gen 5 really didnt see a need for the gen 4 so never got one. Picked up a gen 5 19 a few days ago and the trigger is better than the previous gens. So far so good with the gen 5 300 rds and not a single problem and the finish still looks new.
Wonderful review as always. You personally do the best, professional reviews of anybody on YOU TUBE by far. Thank you for this review and all the personal time expended on producing it.
Very through review, have a Gen 3 17 been thinking of a Gen 5 19 or 17.Thanks for all the work you put into this review. Haven’t seen part 2 yet ....watching that in a bit
As a Southpaw whose hands never quite fit the fingergrooves, this is the Glock I've honestly wanted since the Gen 3s 1st came out. Will I buy one now, probably not. But, if/when I can find a Gen 5 Glock 31, yeah it's probably gonna follow me home.
I am a lefty so i love the glock gen5 all over the place and finally sold off my sig 9mm p226. I now have the 17 & 19 gen5's and you don't need a heavy p226 sig to shoot 9mm but may like a p226/229 if shooting 40 cal. I have shot plenty of lead in my old gen3,I just ran FMJ behind them to burn the lead out the barrell just like I do in my revolvers but shooting bare lead is wack anyway unless that's all you got.
Man I would never sell my M9A3 for a Glock....it’s my favorite 9mm and isn’t really all that heavy due to most of the slide is missing. If I could only have one pistol I’d go with it or my HK P30...I do own the G19 gen 5 but it basically just sits in my safe
Great break down of all the changes, I'm looking forward to the second review. I'll always have a soft spot for Glock's, but I'm really enjoying my P320's these days.
Gen2 for life! I've only owned Gen1, 2, and early 3s. My gen 3 17 I removed the finger grooves and Stippled the frame. I double undercut the trigger guard. Apex trigger and upgraded the sights. The reason I mentioned the gen 3 is mainly because of removed finger grooves. I prefer not to have them as I like the way the grip feels better.
An excellent breakdown of the variances between the gen 4 vs the gen 5. For all intents, a completely different pistol, with a cosmetically similar external appearance. The change from the polygonal ( po-lig-i- nal, not 'polly') barrel, originally touted as more accurate with a slightly higher velocity achievable, sales hyperbole on the former, accurate on the latter; to a change in sales hyperbole for the "marksman" barrel, only in the sencee that the barrel crown reduces risk of damage which may affect accuracy, but also allows easier forensic evidence tying recovered bullets to specific barrels, which has been reported, though not confirmed, as a federal request, at least for the 17M variant. Any similar technical reviews for the P80 and the 19X regarding internal changes gens 4 vs 5? Well done, J.O.!
I would have liked to have seen Glock go all out, by adding a Mil-Spec picatinny rail, front cocking serrations, maritime cups, an enhanced trigger; and the M.O.S. slide milling. In my opinion, that setup would have put them back on top.
A 1913 rail under a pistol dust cover is ugly ! buy a Gen 4 FS if you want forward serrations. Maritime Cups are on e-bay, Glock Store and Midway for cheap. If you need a special trigger, again check out the aforementioned sites. An MOS Slide is ugly if you never mount a RDS. They are on top. They're a Combat grade weapon, that all the others have copied. Never buy copies of anything, always go for the Original.
Albert Pepe, I'm not in the market for a Glock. I have several. I'm just making suggestions that may please new buyers; so that Glocks don't go the way of the dinosaur. I've been buying Glock pistols since they first came out. I'm good.
I think we would like to see steel sights. Though, I think they use polymer to keep the cost down and let you choose from the plethora of after market that are available. All I add is a grip plug, extended slide release, extended mag release, Trijicons and custom end plate and light on gen 3'S.
Albert Pepe lol to keep the cost down. You do know the msrp of these guns right? They cost more than guns that are better than the Glocks. Glock is stuck in the 80s. And also. Buy the time you find a 600 dollar gen 4 19 fs. For 600, drop a pair of trijis on it for 200. And do all the other shit, you looking at close to a grand for a gun that is essentially still plastic. Might as well buy a sig for that
b brady Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ! Whenever you have to prefix your statement with....Glock doesn't have this....they don't have that.... they don't have you name it, all you are doing is reaffirming that GLOCK is King of all Polymer striker fired weapons ! They didn't have to reverse engineer someone else's product like all the wannabes had to!
This out of the box, first view was extraordinary, especially showing the parts detail comparison on camera of the internal parts was superb. This video has made me a subscriber to the Chanel.,Keep up the good work and Kudos! PS. Excellent auto focus, what video recorder are you using?
In a sea of useless Gen 5 reviews (no finger grooves!!!), a single video was uploaded that had genuine insight.. Thanks for breaking that trend and getting into the parts I was really curious about, inside the slide and frame.
I have a gen 4 17 and I like it over a gen 2 or 3...perfect for me and it's my go to pistol for classes and training...I had a gen 2,3 and 4 19 and the gen 2 is the only 19 i really miss....the finger groves annoy me on the 19 but I like them very much on a 17.......I also have a 26 that I can't imagine with out finger grooves.....I'm looking forward to getting a gen 5 19 because the only thing that the gen 2 19 was missing was a textured grip.
Great approach to reviewing the new glock offering. Never got into Glock, always seemed bland to my taste but i think the Glock 17 GEN 5 will be my introduction into the line...#SIG4EVA
Got the same Glock just with Glock night sights, excellent pistol and different to the 19 gen 4 I sold, different to the positive side. Thanks for the video!
Great video, Definitely a very detailed review, Just what I've been looking for. My Gen 5 17 should be here tomorrow. Been a long couple days waiting to get my hands on it.
I think the rear sight notch is just a smidge wider than the previous gens, Also i heard the trigger shoe itself is a smooth faced surface even on the 19s. Where as before the compacts and sub compacts all had the serrated trigger. Great break down.
Justin Opinion I hear ya. Just offering some info. I think also that like you noted in the vid, the 17 recoil spring assembly is a diff size compared to previous gens. I think on the 19 it is the same length as previous gens. Which is strange
Justin Opinion Nice! Thanks for checking that out for me. Probably don't make a huge difference but still good to note. Glock going out of their way to give us a battle sight picture hahaha. With plastic sights!
Very informative video, I did enjoy viewing this for sure. Some just want to take them out the box and shoot them, then giving there opinion of how it shot / felt in there hand functioning(?) No benefit from their video based on their feelings, it must be raw about the product. You did a great job here, just liked and subscribed!!! Thanks and have a great day.
I like my 4 just became the finger grooves align perfectly with my type of hand. I call the new Gen 5 (VERSION 4.5) I do like the smooth look it has though but still needs more serrations especially in the front for press check.
I appreciate you sharing this. I just can't bring myself to buy one. Their changes are hardly enough to warrant another generation, let alone the price tag in my humble opinion.
I'm still on the fence about the G5. My choices are a ppq, czp10c, and G5 g17. I've held the ppq and am still waiting for a p10c and a G5 to be caught in the wild. I'm leaning toward the p10c, and I wasn't blown away by the ppq. I already have magazines and an owb for a g17, but I'd have to put some truglos on straight away.
Good in-depth analysis.... don't particularly like the flair or cutout on the mag well. And although the barrel may be better overall, I find it ironic that the rifling is now "better", where before it was better than the one they are using now. A silly question, why does the slide contour (@ the front) not match the lower?
I'll definitely be replacing my Gen 3 G19, but I'm on the fence about getting the new Gen 5 or a CZ P10C. It really seems like the only thing the Glock has over the CZ is a longer track record of reliability, which of course is very important but the CZ seems to be just as reliable so far.
I hear ya! The CZ P10-C is very nice. I like the Gen5 G17 more than I expected to. Also really like the CZ. Tough choice! But the P-10C is more G19 sized in the slide.
Interesting takedown. Thanks for the educational content. I always liked the finger grooves, so I'm sad to see them go (I wonder if they could've done what H&K does with their new lines and offered a front strap with and without the grooves?); but I haven't tried the Gen 5 yet, so -- can't speak to the changes. Kinda disappointing that they still haven't figured out a way to make an ambi mag release, but I'm eternally grateful that they've finally done it on the slide release. I've typically gone H&K for those reasons alone but I've always wanted to add a few Glocks to the family collection (no point in fanboying over companies -- they're all fun to shoot). Here's hoping we see a Gen 5 G26 / G43 in the not-too-distant future. Instant purchases on that day for me.
I just want to know your opinion if it's worth buying ??? I have a few pistols I'm considering for my next purchase .... the Gen5 might be on my list ...
Could you change the title of this video to include the words "Gen5 Detail Strip"? If you do, I would have found this video sooner. Thanks for the first detail strip of a Gen5 that I've seen.
Why does everyone keep saying that new marksmanship barrels use traditional lands an grooves rifling? I believe Glock said, it was still polygonal, just a slight difference to improve accuracy.....
I know that initially that was the information I had, as well as others in the industry that I know. We know understand that the barrel is octagonal and remains polygonal, but early word was "more traditional rifling". When a manufacturer feels they are clever by withholding information, that's what happens.
I think it's just getting cool to cry about the Gen5's at this point. On my new 19 Gen 5, the trigger is better than any of my stock Gen 3 or 4 guns. I LOVE the lack of finger grooves, no skateboard tape needed for the grip, and the Ameriglo sights it came with are awesome. It will be the first Glock I carry absolutely bone stock. I guess people were expecting a Plasma rifle in the 40 watt range???
Eddie, The CZ P10c has a "not- incorrect" grip angle, better grip shape, better trigger, much better sights, better barrel, and front serrations. I used to drink the Glock koolaid, until the market innovated better options in the way of seven different brands of great striker fired pistols.
James, We former Glock shooters were hoping for a corrected grip angle, better grip shape, better trigger, better metal sights, trigger guard undercut, and front serrations (in addition to the ambi slide control and removal of finger grooves)... Like on the HK vp, Sig P320, CZ P10c, FN 509, Walther PPQ, Beretta APX, and M&P.
James SEMO well I honestly think those people don't even own guns. Just people on the internet. However I do think this was a fail on Glocks part. As a gen 3 and gen 4 owner, I don't see a reason to pick this gun. I think Smith has outdone them with the m&p 2.0 compact this time around. Better stock sights, better grip, better overall build materials. I personality prefer the trigger on the 2.0s. I want Glock to get back in the game in a big way. First off they are charging wayyyy too much for guns with plastic sights from 20+ years ago
James SEMO oh and dont forget the didn't bevel the polymer with the slide. It's looks pretty stupid to me. I mean come on Glock. You even beveled the polymer on the gen 3 26 and 27 but not the damn gen 5 19? Give me a break
bikeracerdude everything you just mentioned is purely subjective and YOUR opinion. Glock doesn’t need to cater to YOUR needs. I love the grip angle (which is virtually identical to a 1911 and most other polymer guns) and the sights will be changed out anyway even if they were metal. Also, they come from the factory with metal sight options now.
what sold me was:
- rounded look
- darker finish for added corrosion protection
- marksman barrel
- flat grip vs gen 3 finger grooved
- weight and high quality
it really is a sexy ass gun!!
After many attempts to find one. I have found the absolute best detailed table review of the Glock gen 5. Thank you for this.
14:02 "They do say that this barrel is more accurate so probably not in my hands but maybe in somebody else's" That somebody is Hickok45 :)
Yep, he'd certainly be one. And half the people I know! ;-)
@@JustinOpinionChannel DOES THE GLOCK 17 GEN 5 STILL HAVE THE UNSUPPORTED BARREL THAT CAUSE THE GLOCK SMILE ?
Best video out on gen 5 so far!
I really like that they changed the follower color to orange. Makes it nice for dry fire practice.
The spring changes in the slide stop, slide lock, and trigger group are great reliability upgrades.
Wow...most comprehensive Glock gen comparison I have seen! Thanks for spending the time doing this.
Just bought the Glock 19 gen 5
Love it. Perfect gun for me.
Thanks!
You're Welcome!
Great detailed parts comparison. Thank you! Gen 3 is still our personal favorite.
Great job, that's the review I've been waiting for!
Lo más especial de esta arma es la sujeción y el gatillo..créanme no hace falta que sea automática es rapidísimo al disparar...nunca había probado nada igual...Pruébalo te la recomiendo
Nice comparison, very detailed. I look forward to the shooting part. Good work Justin.
Even after 4 years later still the best and most informative right to the point video! on the Glock gen 5 I've found! I've been carrying Glocks since 2007! and am very glad I saw this video! thanks so much I am also a new subscriber to your channel.
147g fmj and this gun perfect range gun. So smooth and accurate
Greetings from Belgium! The best and most detailed review of all that I saw! Special thanks for the voice acting, very everything is pronounced clearly, precisely, and most importantly not very quickly ... ( it's very important for foreigners) ..... Thank you sir!
I have the Glock19 gen5 and the trigger is at 6 pounds and works perfectly.
First unboxing I've seen where the reviewer opened the box right side up. Great review 👍.
Man one of if not the best comparison video iv seen . yeah i was slow to pick up a gen 5 really didnt see a need for the gen 4 so never got one. Picking up my G5_17 tomorrow. Good to know it from the inside out. Now I have to find part 2! Thanks much.

Thank you for this review and all the personal time expended on producing it.
Good Explanation ! Thanks ! Very Helpful !
Absolutely Awesome video very informative and thanks for sharing!
Great side by side, well done & thanks for sharing!
Good video! Ignore the haters!
They really come out of the woodwork, don't they!
They really come out of the woodwork, don't they!
Excelente video, nunca visto antes, una comparación tan exhaustiva.... Amo Glock... Saludos desde Mendoza Argentina...!!!
The Gen 4 was close for me but not quite enough to get me to go Glock......this one finally did it. Nice video.
Very through review, have a Gen 3 17 been thinking of a Gen 5 19 or 17.Thanks for all the work you put into this review. Haven’t seen part 2 yet ....watching that in a bit
Excellent videos, I watched both parts. Very nicely done!
Thank you for sharing your initial impressions. I like the beveled slide-front, but I wish they had beveled the frame to match (like the Glock 26/27).
Good Review! Most detailed I've seen yet!
This is the most detailed video ever about the Glock 17 Gen 5. Thank you so much for the review
Thank you for commenting. Very happy that you liked it!

For me the perfect 17 would have night sites, cut out for red dot, and front slide serrations because the new coating is soooo slick...
Picked up my first glock yesterday. gen 5 g19.
Really Appreciate The Work You Do! Thanks-
Great break down of all the changes, I'm looking forward to the second review. I'll always have a soft spot for Glock's, but I'm really enjoying my P320's these days.
Really? I hadn't heard that!
marh415 I absolutely love my three P320's also.
GLOCK 17 GEN 3 ALL DAY! 👍💪
Great detailed video own the g17 gen 5 MOS.
Glock is famous for its iconic looks which now are no longer no square front end.
I like the the slide lock button change ... from gen 4
A very detailed video. Thanks man.
And also. Great video that shows the updates made by Glock.
Thanks great Video. We as responsible Glock owners, are novelist and appreciate these type of training material.
This out of the box, first view was extraordinary, especially showing the parts detail comparison on camera of the internal parts was superb. This video has made me a subscriber to the Chanel.,Keep up the good work and Kudos!
PS. Excellent auto focus, what video recorder are you using?
*Glock IMperfection is why we have the awesome choices of the CZ P10c, Sig P320, HK vp, FN 509, Walther PPQ, Beretta APX, and M&P.*
bikeracerdude lol why are all of those better? If it wasn’t for Glock, none of those would exist. Glock still king of the hill
EXCELLENT REVIEW!! I for one, love the details!
I Love the new Run DMC finish! Great! :-)
In a sea of useless Gen 5 reviews (no finger grooves!!!), a single video was uploaded that had genuine insight.. Thanks for breaking that trend and getting into the parts I was really curious about, inside the slide and frame.
Thanks much for watching! In a sea of "brand name gun channels" not too many find my stuff. I appreciate it!
Great detail in you video, nice.
Great approach to reviewing the new glock offering. Never got into Glock, always seemed bland to my taste but i think the Glock 17 GEN 5 will be my introduction into the line...#SIG4EVA
Bland... It's a firearm designed to fire bullets. It's not a car. It isn't dinner, either.
Thank You for showing us whats under the hood of a gen5.
I liked your review very detailed the way I like them.....keep up the good work.
Great video. Great detail. Thanks!
Thanks. Hope you enjoy yours when you get it.
Great video! Keep it coming! Thank you...
Thank you for this great in detail video, I plan on buying the Glock 19 Gen 5 myself some day soon.
Great first look. Not a huge Glock guy, but interested in what's new.
texture on the grip, little pyramids, Glock needs to take a look at the FN-S.. perfect grip texture.
I think the rear sight notch is just a smidge wider than the previous gens, Also i heard the trigger shoe itself is a smooth faced surface even on the 19s. Where as before the compacts and sub compacts all had the serrated trigger. Great break down.
Thanks - I didn't compare the sight notch - I'll do that. Wish I also had a 19, but alas... just a poor kid trying to make videos on a shoestring! :)
Justin Opinion I hear ya. Just offering some info. I think also that like you noted in the vid, the 17 recoil spring assembly is a diff size compared to previous gens. I think on the 19 it is the same length as previous gens. Which is strange
Verified - rear sight notch is .030" wider in Gen5.
Justin Opinion Nice! Thanks for checking that out for me. Probably don't make a huge difference but still good to note. Glock going out of their way to give us a battle sight picture hahaha. With plastic sights!
Big Beavertail backstrap is great for me.
I believe you forgot to mention the fact that the Gen 5 triggers are smooth faced, and the rear sight notch is wider.
I'm looking at the G17 - which already was a smooth faced trigger.
When a gen 5 magazine is partially loaded, can you see the orange through the witness holes?
Just bought one of these beauty's, thanks for the video!
I love the new jet black finish. I wonder if I can send my Glock 20 slide to get refinished free of charge?
Thank you for this video...I love Glocks 🙌🙌🙌
Very informative video, I did enjoy viewing this for sure.
Some just want to take them out the box and shoot them, then giving there opinion of how it shot / felt in there hand functioning(?) No benefit from their video based on their feelings, it must be raw about the product. You did a great job here, just liked and subscribed!!! Thanks and have a great day.
Thinking if buying the g19 9mm this week would this be a good choice for my first handgun?
Without knowing your intended purposes, yes - the Glock 19 is an excellent choice for a first handgun.
Thank you for your feedback
Why don't you have the front groves? Mine has front groves.
also, my slide has grooves cut into the front of the slide, like the back...
Very detailed. Thank you. Glock 17 5th gen
Is definitely for me. Just gonna change the sites
I bought one, G17 gen 5 Flat Dark Earth frame and slide, good looking gun but still carrying my CZ75b
I like my 4 just became the finger grooves align perfectly with my type of hand. I call the new Gen 5 (VERSION 4.5) I do like the smooth look it has though but still needs more serrations especially in the front for press check.
Love my Glock 17🔥🔥
Best review on the gen 5!
I appreciate you sharing this. I just can't bring myself to buy one. Their changes are hardly enough to warrant another generation, let alone the price tag in my humble opinion.
I didn't check all the comments but, my 17 GEN 5 does not have the notch cutout in the front of the grip, must be something they changed since 2017...
Very well shown. thanks.
Thanks for the early look at the Gen 5 G17! Hopefully this gen will continue the tradition of being the most reliable handgun...

Damn, I bought a “ Mag pull " speed loader. When I receive my Glock 17 pistol in its case I’ll check to see if it has a loader inside.
Good in-depth analysis.... don't particularly like the flair or cutout on the mag well. And although the barrel may be better overall, I find it ironic that the rifling is now "better", where before it was better than the one they are using now. Here's hoping we see a Gen 5 G26 / G43 in the not-too-distant future. Instant purchases on that day for me.
19 barrels are interchangeable 17s are not. rifling is still pilygonal as well
DOES THE GLOCK 17 GEN 5 STILL HAVE THE UNSUPPORTED BARREL THAT CAUSE THE GLOCK SMILE ?
I wonder why they removed material from the locking lug. That doesn’t seem like a good move.
Where does one acquire the Glock desk that you have?
Eddie,
The CZ P10c has a "not- incorrect" grip angle, better grip shape, better trigger, much better sights, better barrel, and front serrations.
I used to drink the Glock koolaid, until the market innovated better options in the way of seven different brands of great striker fired pistols.
James,
We former Glock shooters were hoping for a corrected grip angle, better grip shape, better trigger, better metal sights, trigger guard undercut, and front serrations (in addition to the ambi slide control and removal of finger grooves)...
