i think the secret ending is kind of a good ending. father finally realizes that his daughter is gone, and gives the protagonist a new, personalized name. perhaps it isnt total freedom, since the father is the one deciding the name, but we have all been given our names in life. its a part of growing up, and the protagonist is, in many ways, like a child

This inspired me to imagine a film set in an unknown point in the future where the human race are extinct and mannequin-like androids have taken their place setting themselves up in a kind of 1950s society
I imagine them during the night hours sat around tbeir living rooms in the dark connected to charging ports
They would see a sunrise, but react to it with a very blank and logical perception to emphasise how with humanity's extinction the world has lost its sense of beauty
I would depict them as not just actors pretending, but they would look very plastic and artificial
