Female subjugation is a global issue. In Nigeria, specifically in the Ndegu Okpuitumo community in Ebonyi state, young girls are subjected to marrying dead men in a bid to continue their bloodlines because of sudden death due to communal war between then and Osopo Esato, a neighboring community in Cross River state, Nigeria.

This type of law needs to be cancelled, the people need to be educated, let the government use force to stop this act in that community..

This is one of the reasons the British media personalities were voicing out trashes about Nigeria this noon. My heart is still in pains. Glad the girls want to move and do meaningful things with their lives

I bet these women dream of themselves sleeping with the “dead men” who are simply familiar spirits.

Truth these kids will never be able to leave the dead men's families because of the children they have borne them. Women are always tied to their kids and find it difficult to remarry even when their husbands are dead, at least here in Nigeria. Almost all wait till their kids are all grown up before they even consider remarriage.
So long as those kids are alive, and they're still married to those dead men through their families, they won't want to remarry. Even for those that want to, it would be very difficult to see a man who wants to marry a woman with all that baggage. Also to remarry she'll have to divorce the dead man through his family of course, before she'll be free again. If she risks loosing her kids, she may not want to divorce.
All in all its a very tricky situation that should be handled delicately.

The situation is very ugly but the King is on the forefront of propelling it not stopping it. 2 girls ran away and their fate is that they will no longer step foot on the land or they’ll die.

@@joses2712 He and the community elders believe they owe their lives to the war lords and women became, as usual, easy targets. The community already had a culture where women are seen as merely belonging to men and if their husbands died they’ll stay back to have as many more children in his name. However, they deepened this culture with this culture as their solution to cushion the effect of war by forcing young girls into traditional bondage with dead men, while exposing them to all kinds of STDs.

I think the rulers don't want the war to stop. The only way to get more 'warlords' is through this dehumanizing practice. Use spirituality to control the young girls and their families into having children. It's not like they are stopping at one or two children. They are having more than 4 kids
