If there is no difference, why use two terms? Make it easy, let's use one word for meditation. I skipped ahead looking for a definition of Vipassana and must have missed it. Does he explain Vipassana? What minute of the video? Thanks.
Samatha mediation is a practice of concentration, mainly focusing on our breath. Vipassana meditation is a technique of being aware of our sensations throughout the body.

Take samatha as the grip. Grab that hair of thoughts by that grip and cut it with the knife called vipassana. Grab it by samatha, cut it by vipassana.
"Killing" ... got that one wrong! There is a lot of resistance in that kind of language ... for the path is about tolerance and compassion .. and overcoming desire and aversion ....
