Pittsburgh is a city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the United States and the county seat of Allegheny County. A population of 302,971 residents lives within the city limits as of the 2020 US Census, making it the 68th-largest city in the U.S. and the second-most populous city in Pennsylvania, behind Philadelphia. The Pittsburgh metropolitan area is the anchor of Western Pennsylvania; its population of 2.37 million is the largest in both the Ohio Valley and Appalachia, the second-largest in Pennsylvania, and the 27th-largest in the U.S.
Pittsburgh is located in the southwest of the state, at the confluence of the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River, forming the Ohio River. Pittsburgh is known both as "the Steel City" for its more than 300 steel-related businesses and as the "City of Bridges" for its 446 bridges. The city features 30 skyscrapers, two inclined railways, a pre-revolutionary fortification and the Point State Park at the confluence of the rivers. The city developed as a vital link of the Atlantic coast and Midwest, as the mineral-rich Allegheny Mountains led to the region being contested by the French and British empires, Virginians, Whiskey Rebels, and Civil War raiders.
Aside from steel, Pittsburgh has led in the manufacturing of other important materials - aluminum and glass - and in the petroleum industry. Additionally, it is a leader in computing, electronics, and the automotive industry. For part of the 20th century, Pittsburgh was behind only New York City and Chicago in corporate headquarters employment; it had the most U.S. stockholders per capita. Deindustrialization in the 1970s and 1980s laid off area blue-collar workers as steel and other heavy industries declined, and thousands of downtown white-collar workers also lost jobs when several Pittsburgh-based companies moved out. The population dropped from a peak of 675,000 in 1950 to 370,000 in 1990. However, this rich industrial history left the area with renowned museums, medical centers, parks, research centers, and a diverse cultural district.
After the deindustrialization of the mid-20th century, Pittsburgh has transformed into a hub for the health care, education, and technology industries. Pittsburgh is a leader in the health care sector as the home to large medical providers such as University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). The area is home to 68 colleges and universities, including research and development leaders Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. Google, Apple Inc., Bosch, Facebook, Uber, Nokia, Autodesk, Amazon, Microsoft and IBM are among 1,600 technology firms generating $20.7 billion in annual Pittsburgh payrolls. The area has served as the long-time federal agency headquarters for cyber defense, software engineering, robotics, energy research and the nuclear navy. The nation's fifth-largest bank, eight Fortune 500 companies, and six of the top 300 U.S. law firms make their global headquarters in the area, while RAND Corporation (RAND), BNY Mellon, Nova, FedEx, Bayer, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) have regional bases that helped Pittsburgh become the sixth-best area for U.S. job growth.
In 2015, Pittsburgh was listed among the "eleven most livable cities in the world". The Economist's Global Liveability Ranking placed Pittsburgh as the most or second-most livable city in the United States in 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2018. The region is a hub for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and energy extraction.

When I grew up in Pgh in the 50s & 60s there was always snow in the winter. I miss my beloved home town.
From the about the 0:30 to the 5:50 Part of the video is not the downtown section of Pittsburgh. It is the Uptown section or formerly known as the Hill district area Where Mercy hospital and PPG arena is located it's above the downtown area. Ross street where the courthouse is, is the cut off between downtown and the Uptown section. 20:00 to 25:10 is the Northside section where Heinz Field and PNC Park and Rivers casino is located along with Allegheny General Hospital.
I remember Three Rivers Stadium, as I grew up in the area but haven't been back for over 40 years when the Jobs went away!
I just got back from Pittsburgh. Never been there before. Cool town. Great vibe. Wicked prices. Go there.
How was the public transit?
I'm from NYC Love Pittsburgh PA I visit often I would Love to move there.
It's short and sweet.
This City is appealing to me 😍! Great video guy 👌🏿
Wen to school in Pittsburgh from 2013-2015, this brings back a lot of memories. Despite being on the decline for many years, downtown Pittsburgh seems pretty clean. I didn't see a single homeless tent in the video. Much better than the "booming" tech city of Seattle...
Ironic that a city in decline could look better than a city that's growing
Tech companies ruin the uniqueness of any city.
I grew up near Seattle. Fun town to visit but it’s definitely not going in the right direction
@@matthewcain2880and google is in pgh so watch out
I heard driving in the city is treacherous for a new visitor. I'm afraid to drive it. Tourist.
Very interesting tour through Pittsburgh, well done. Best regards from Germany,
Norbert 👍
Pittsburgh isn't just the city, it's all of the different NEIGHBORHOODS ‼️Mr. Rogers sang about the neighborhoods‼️They can be ethnic groups or age groups that comprise Pittsburgh's neighborhoods ‼️They are all individual and unique‼️
Thank You for this very good video!!
Thank you for your videos... Beautiful work
I was born and raised in pittsburgh. I love it and miss it very much. I'm in Georgia right now but I plan to make it back someday. I lived in many parts of the city, the Northside, "not Northshore", 😂, east liberty, Bloomfield, west view, Mt. Oliver, beach view, Bellview, Brentwood, fine view, Troy Hill, etna, but most of my younger life was on the Northside. I love and miss pittsburgh.
I grew up in Pittsburgh and live in Georgia now. I really hope that my fiancé and I will move back up there after we get married next year!
Please be today
There's no place like home.
Lol don't come , it's turning into libtard city
There's no place like home
Wonderful memories, studied at Carnegie Mellon university 1989-91, lived at Squirrel Hill and Point Breeze, really beautiful ❤️.
I love it! Thank you for making this video.
Thank you for supporting the channel!
This was very good. The biggest difference from my days downtown is the lack of people on the streets and the traffic.
Beautiful blue collar city. A lot of working class people.
Is it safe to assume they're always working on the streets in Pittsburgh?
It's the pot hole capital of the world...lol
I swear to god some of the roadwork signs that I saw in this video were there in the nineteen seventies
Lived in Pittsburgh through most of the 70s. I liked it there.
Have you never been to the wealthy suburbs with their gorgeous million dollar houses? Pittsburgh has many beautiful areas!
But we don't want to see another million dollar house. This video is good as is :)
Замечательный обзор, не затянуто. Виды прекрасны!🎉
Спасибо!
Looks like New York City but mini lol
it basically is but without all the ginormous globs of people and more bridges lol
It's a tiny but unique city and most people here have a lot of pride for their city. I love Pittsburgh, and thats saying a lot coming from someone born and raised in the rural south lol
@@gunbacker9428whats so good or unique about it? How is the traffic ? Weather?
I call Pittsburgh mini New York
@lacipeter6934 weather is on and off and some days you have all 4 seasons. Traffic is not bad at all.
Pittsburgh is hard to learn to drive around in, because Pittsburgh is a triangle with a grid in the center.
Could be as difficult as squaring a circle...? 😊
@@rohkofantti8673 Come drive around Pittsburgh and find out.
Many movies have been made in Pittsburgh, and they continue to make movies in this city.
They just filmed an episode if a tv show with jeremy renner last week.
Nice, thanks. Had aunts, uncles, cousins from Pittsburgh.
Thanks for posting this
This looks sooo much like Europe♡ Definitely Moving there after seeing this!!! 😀
Which country? I'm from The Netherlands and it doesn't look close to here. I don't see similarities with Germany too.
@@robrobster9148 Bosnia. I grew up in Germany.
@@2030bhusak Okay, Bosnia seems like a cool place to be if there are cities like this 👍
@@robrobster9148 Only big cities look like this in Bosnia and Germany. How does this NOT remind you of Europe? Have you seen other parts of America? They suck!!!!
@@2030bhusak yes, the last time i was in Florida. Nothing there reminds me of Europe. A city in the US that reminds me a bit of Europe is Boston.
I loved the video, it brought back memories. I left Pittsburgh in '08 and can't believe the state of the streets, especially Uptown. The 61C entered town via Forbes, but the streets weren't torn up back then. Was this one of Bill Peduto's pet projects?
The whole state looks like this. The federal government gave grants to the state and they are doing unnecessary work on many highways, bridges and city streets. Scranton looks identical.
They’re gentrifying uptown
Great video. My foot kept moving as if driving. 😂
Thanks for video ride. I never been to Pittsburg downtown. It looks like a nice old city, clean. But surprising a ghost city. Not too many folks walking about.
It's PITTSBURGH
I went to downtown yesterday there was lots of ppl
Because at that time we were still in covidland.
Post covid
I love stuff about Pittsburgh. I am in your video LOL WTF that's why I commented. where is waldo?
So you were in a middle of a movie a throwback takes place in September 1952 Pittsburgh
Looks beautiful
My head hurts when i look at these skyscrapers irl lmao
Unbelievable how devoid of people the city is compared to even the 1980s and 90s. Back then Pittsburgh was teaming with people coming and going. Buses everywhere: no where to park a car. It’s like a ghost town. So many of the great businesses gone: Kaufmans, Hornes, Gimbels, Murphys, Honus Wagner, Ralphs(?), Candy Rama, Oyster House, etc. 😢
COVID
Ralph's is gone, the sign is still there but it's closed. I really like the new target, but I wish it was the same size as the kaufmans. I'm only 20, so I always grew up with it being a Macy's, not a Kaufman's. I also never saw downtown full of business like it was in the past, but realizing that it used to be full of stores is wild. It's like looking at a dead mall.
@@bandombeviews6035 It was like a mini NYC bitd. There were three major department stores, Gimbels, Kaufmans, and Hornes. There were night clubs, movie theaters, and Liberty avenue was seedy with maybe ten porn shops or so. Pegasus gay bar, Heaven straight bar, it was diverse. Art Institute students all over. Crazy how it has become deserted and for someone your age, it always was semi-deserted.
Yra that's happening in alot cities in the u.s.
Probably can’t afford it,that’s why people might of left
I like the time slip during the first 35 seconds
Want to get there so bad-----cheers from Italy
Lot's of Italian immigrants, my father was one
The videographer is an excellent driver.
Awesome downtown!
Pittsburgh is a park in disguise, that's why we call our highways the parkway....lol
Nice video, what type of camera did you use?
I Love this Place ❤️
That drive down 5th Ave was depressing. Your videos are interesting, but need some narration for those who are unfamiliar with what you are filming. Especially any known landmarks.
@ 11:35, so, this is how people in Pittsburgh get their news.
😂wher the bus go
Must have hit another pothole lol
@@cattyhatty7574 ...I have no idea.
@@jarrelljimerson3346 dyou remember the pothole downtown that ate that bus bk in 2019? That's what I was referring to 😂
@@cattyhatty7574...no, missed it.
Looking to move to Pittsburgh in the next couple years, so this was interesting (nice raw footage of the city), but might I suggest adding some copy-right free lofi (or otherwise) music to the driving videos. Just something neutral, but could make a video like this very relaxing to watch.
I am glad you liked the video. I really appreciate your insightful feedback. That is something I should look into!
lol..why dont you play some music on your end
Just play music on your own. Music ruins videos like this. You can always add but not remove...
Also 15:14 was that the Kaufmanns clock?
Yes
Boy, the streets need working on, tho. I'd love to move there.
Very accurate! 🖤💛🖤💛
yall should visit Beaufort county there homes is very Nice.
Anybody know what movie they were filming around the 8:45 mark?
what are the "better" areas to live around pittsburgh? im from fl but it's getting crazy here and want to explore my options. Thanks!
Hands down, Mt. Lebanon!!!!!
@@waltkeast9777 I will check it out, thank you!
Obrigada ☺️ thank you
Well, they invested all their money on plastic barriers, signs and cones. They forgot to actually repair the streets.
It's our city bird 😂 weather and old streets tend to need maintenance but look at it like a game of maze 😂
You got that right
It looks pretty nice around theyre
I visit a lot
You sure were busy winter 2021
we can see the tips
I grew up in Western PA, streets of Pittsburgh still look crappy.
Have you checked out the streets in Philadelphia (particularly along K & A?!?! Compared to Pittsburgh, it’s a flaming landfill of 💩
Downtown looks nice but as soon as you leave that area, why does it become so crappy and car dependent?
I think that your assessment is unfair and way off. Just sayin',,,,
@@waltkeast9777 How? Would you mind elaborating?
@@sajanaryal6932this was recorded during the pandemic…. The city was barely outside
@@sajanaryal6932even the downtown area was quiet and you barely see anyone out…. This was uploaded at the beginning of 2021
Most of the older neighborhoods until you get to like etna are really walkable, but honestly, imo, pittsburgh is kinda crap to bike/walk in because of all of the hills and tight pathways.
Throwback to Intel ISEF back in 2015!
Aces and deuce's lounge...
reminds me of san francisco
Yup. It’s like they are long lost twins, that nobody talks about. San Francisco is more beautiful tho 😜
without the homeless.
How so? In San Fran everyone is walking around the streets are crowded ...here it's not . Pittsburg is also affordable ,San Fran is not
@@marieclaire4935ppl walk around here too. This was covid times
Yeah except less gay and less homeless. But the homosexual community and the homeless community are growing in Pittsburgh.
Looks like Scranton but bigger.
looks like if seattle and detroit had a baby
Look kinda boring. No restaurent, no bar, no good commerce, no best buy. It just a working place and with nothing to do.
In the 80s we had the best night club scene.
Roads look bad!
Because he drove around some of the literally worst parts of the city.
Ok receive me
You must have a great camera in order to make 5th Ave in Oakland seem smoother than it is! Sad that with all the street work they're doing, when they finish they repave it horribly. But sadly because it's Uptown and a more poor section of town, they don't give a shit about making it smooth again. Try riding a bus through Uptown! Better hope you don't have to pee cause your bladder gets shaken about and the bus sounds like it's gonna completely fall apart.
