This song reminds me of my Grandma , whom I lost to Alzheimer more than ten years now. She always knew how to make things better, sometimes just by being there for me....

My father lost my mother, his 57 years companion suddenly, with no chance to say goodbye. I looked for this video, because there are similarities and he was so "silently" desperate. I love to imagine he would have sung for her like this. He died 8 weeks later, now they are together again.

I lost my one and only Honeybunny, Karen, my soulmate of 14 years last night to illness. When we first saw this part of the movie, it punched us in the gut, hit us hard in the heart. Harder than we both thought it would. The beautiful lyrics, poigniant melody, and Mr. Stamp's powerful yet understated emotions were incredible to experience. Karen, I'll miss you dearly. The first time I had ever cried to a movie. A little backstory: the guys wife died in the movie to cancer and she loved to sing. He was so heartbroken and sad. He sang about her at the choir performance and it was really touching.

My English War Bride mother died 3 years ago and I couldn't cry.
I held do much in.....seeing this song I finally found my tears and feel my dear mother who had the ocean in a Liberty ship and managed to survive in this country. She always said I was her baby doll. I suddenly could her her lullabies to me.

i know it wont mean much to you as much to me....but my mom use to sing this to me when i was a little girl....and my mother passed away.about a year and a half a go..i came here ...because even though shes gone...she gave me something to remember in the darkness of my night..a lullaby and like it says they go on and on.

A classic case of less is more - a terrific performance from a great actor. He may not be the best singer in the world but he draws more emotion from this song than Leann Rimes' or Celine Dion's rendition. Fantastic. I thought Billy Joel's Album performance was untouchable but even he must get a kick out of hearing one of his songs sung in such a way that connects with so many people. It is what music is for! Great Stuff!

Stamp not only sings this, he acts it. Excellent job. I'm kind of surprised that most of the recordings of this song (aside from Joel himself) are by women or choral groups. I'd love to hear a real operatic tenor do it. (BTW, song written by Billie Joel).
I've just seen the film. Made me cry as a baby.
This song breaks my heart. My kids were 5 and 8 when I was forced to leave them. They never understood...neither did I really but this song knew my pain when no one else did. My life was forever changed and my soul lost. They are 19 and 22 now and the pain has not waned.

I watched this movie last night on netflix and it is such a beautiful, amazing and sad movie. I loved it! I cried and laughed and appreciated it so much. It had very many beautiful messages and I am so glad I watched it.

His simple rendition along with the story line brought new meaning to the lyrics. So touching....

So did I....and once again when I watched the video. I then moved on to listen to other performers singing this song - and on to other great Billy Joel songs such as Vienna, Miami 2017 etc, and once again appreciated what a genius songwriter Billy Joel is. I am sure this scene in the movie brought new fans to Joel's music - at least I hope it did.

My mom started showing the signs of what I thought was Alzheimers,but turned out to be dementia which I guess wasn't as bad as Alzheimers,but it was bad enough.I remember visiting her one last time on a friday,2 weeks before her death,it was 5 in the afternoon,we were talking and by that time her mind was pretty far gone,and she said 2 or 3 times to me during the visit-I love you ,she actually remembered me that time.As for this song,it's a tear jerker,it's very touching,very sensitive,it'll make you cry,but I like it,if that makes any sense.John M Guinto
