    Brilliant, so every time the 3rd and 7th slip back a fret, the 7th becomes the 3rd and the 3rd becomes the 7th if applied to the cycle of 4ths.
    Awesome lesson, outlined impeccably, making the beauty of the blues so much more accessible, Fantastic lesson. Thanks

    @open2discussion 3 года назад +4

    This was AWESOME! I love that it can be broken down so simply to the components 3rd and 7th without having to fly all over the place. The best part of the blues is those chromatic steps. They guide you and the listeners ear. It's predictable, but in the very best way.

    As a guitarist being able to play the blues IMO is essential. Throughout the history of music, people have always played the blues in many forms - fast, medium, slow, funky, sophisticated in different meters and avant-garde. It's still the blues! Cool video thanks for keeping it going Paul!

    I played with an older gentleman, he was in his 80's, who played an old 70's Ibanez like that. At first I thought he was playing a Gibson 335 or something because for some reason he had sharpied out the Ibanez logo on the head stock. You couldnt let that fool you though, he was one hell of a guitar player, he had grew up in AZ and moved to LA and played with all the great singers and bands in his younger days. When we would take a break from playing he would sit and just tell stories and stories of all the people he had played with, he was incredible.

    That step 3 is also the secret to playing Hammond organ on blues while leaving lots of room for the guitarists to shred/wail/whatever. Just play that interval and fiddle with the Leslie speed and drawbars, and folks will think you're a keyboard genius. Provided you pay attention, listen, and fit in, of course.

    P.S.
    The secret to the blues is to play from the heart. I remember my all-time favorite Lightning Hopkins. He plays the same old chords, and yet he always has something new and unexplainable emotion in each of his songs. That is because he is the blues, and the guitar is just an extension of himself. @RobertSaxy 3 года назад +34

      It’s not so much pretending to be a beginner, it’s that he is a teacher and by demonstrating what it’s like to start from the begging level and what it may feel like (obviously a spores up version non nuanced version of it) lets people know it’s on not to know or yet be able. There’s plenty of great guitarist out there, Paul is definitely one of them, but his teaching is outstanding and much more impressive to me

    I started watching thinking "nah, this stuff is too basic". I ended up thinking "uh-oh, that's rather tricky".

    I have just discovered you channel and I must complement you on your teaching and presenting skills.
    I am an old retro guitarist and composer from a progressive rock band called Zior....I have always played things in a self style way which is not very smart !
    They say an old dog cannot change his ways but I have learnt so much from you and I know I am a better player for it..so thank you.

    Man this collaboration made my day complete. My favorite blues player and teacher here at YT Paul Davids and our Legendary guitarist of the Philippines sir Perfector. Checkout his former band RIVERMAYA. He made a classic guitar solo such as "214" and "Awit ng kabataan" he's our legend. Proud of you guys.
