Technology is just too sick...i recall imagining possibilities with guitar sounds and effects in the 70's, having little clue I would see where it's gone...much appreciation and joy, not to mention how it's enabled creativity! Wonders
wow..i usually step away from these digital stuff so fast that i dont even watch these kind of videos, but its was hell worth it watching this one! not only is Alex a fantastic player, but that little digital thing has to be one of the coolest toys ive ever seen! i just have to give it up to Boss and say, i want one!
Thank you Lee for the great in depth explanation of why modeling guitars use special pickups. Very spot on. I tell people it's the best thing for a modeler to work with is the flat sound that the strings make before it hits a magnetic pickup. You can't really make a humbucker sound like a strat pickup, so it makes sense. Really annoying when people call modeling guitars midi guitars.
I'm not into these kind of pedals, but this looks and sounds pretty damn sweet! Great guitarist too, wow! Lee Anderton, that is a sweet looking 50th anniversary pedal you have there, what an amazing and thoughtful gift. You should do a demo of it! :)
It's like Alex became the master of gargantuan power chords and insane shred all of a sudden. Like someone gave him a lot of caffeine and he wanted to knock walls over. And then the country picking. Great player, cool demo.
Great video but I really loved the AMC50 presentation. Well done Boss for marking such a great event with such a sweet thing. You sound as pleased as punch Lee and rightly so!
i think it sounds bloody fantastic....but then i am just a normal person and not complete dickweed like some of the negative fools on here... Cheers Chris.
My final thoughts, the features they added on their guitar modeling are pretty impressive. I'm more of a Variax user, and there has been times when I thought it would be cool if they took advantage of the individual pickups for pitch shifting and putting each string on it's own separate channel. It's very convincing, but I think I still have to go with the Variax. The quality in the modeling is outstanding, and the workbench feature to create any guitar at all blows everything out of the water. Great demo though, Alex is a good guy. I'll be sure to check one of these out someday.
Just for those who got one of these: the patches Alex demos in this video are online at boss tone central for free download. "No guarantee implied that you will be able to play like him."
With the new the acoustic guitar sims inc nylon and sitar in the pedal, and the GT100 patches on board this is a great one solution effects unit for small gigs.I have a graph-tech system fitted to my PRS studio and it was a nightmare getting it to work with the GR-55 (now gone) and a strat with built in roland so this is a will buy unit I think. The retro-fit internal GK-3 is cheaper than the add on and an easy mod for most guitars. much better as well. Alex is N*1 demo guy, he missed out saying you can add two more switches to up the options, I found a double noble sw,unit cheap and it works fine on the GT100. The B' &G' bender patch is worth the price alone,I had to sell my B'bender Tele because it was so heavy it pinched a nerve in my shoulder and made my arm dead when using it. This will work great with the 8 string lap as well with some pitch-bend effects SOLD.
If ANYONE has one of these and REALLY knows how to program the patches. Is there a user setting with lots of variables for automatic volume swells BEFORE the bender effects? Something that would enable it to sound more like a pedal steel instead of a string bender only. Using a real volume pedal and the bender pedal at the same time would be impossible......so, just looking for the possible. Possibly bringing back the old "Portamento" effect at the same time to get those smooth pitch transitions to the that would take place over an octave above? So, if anyone has any of the COUNTRY know how in this piece of kit, please let me know. Cheers.
I think I would off demo it more on the amp with normal pickups, congrats on the 50 years boss pedal, that is amazing of boss to do! I have not used boss pedals for years and years but recently changed my pedal board and now incorporate in my main sound OD-1X and DS-1X amazing pedals. It's like going to HD from SD TV. I still blend some analog pedals on my board, but I think their digital tech is amazing now.
hello .. beautiful demo .. my question ; can I get the sounds of guitars, e.g. classical, acoustic, jazz on the Boss GP-10 without using the 13-pin cable (without GK-3) but only with a jack-jack cable?
so can you set this thing to affect the volume for each string like to take out the attack of the pick in order to give it a violin's attack, sort of like volume swells but for each individual string?
Good video and some awesome guitar playing skills. I wish everything was recorded with the amp combo though because in my opinion it sounded so much better. I think that always is the case with modeling stuff and I never heard a speaker emulation that I liked. The AMC-50 is really nice looking. Got the Boss OD-1X a couple days ago and used with an overdriven good tube amp it's just awesome for boosting solos.
This little box is the perfect partner for my GR55 along with Roland US-20. Those on a budget can get the brand new GKP-2 cable within a few months. I use these boxes alongside my normal pedal-board and Marshall amp. The sounds from these boxes go straight to p.a. Unlike all these demo videos where they try to show you the unit doing everything, I actually prefer to use it paired with my normal rig. You will get awesome sounds doing it this way. Real amp + p.a. ftw.
Could you set it so that only the low E is outputting on the GK side (pitched down an octave) and all the strings on the magnetic pickups still work? I'm thinking if you played a power chord, you could have automatic bass accompaniment.
How'd he get that 12-string sound? I've seen/heard other GP-10 sample videos where the 12-string examples didn't sound nearly as good. Granted, it's not a dead ringer for a real 12-string acoustic, but it's pretty good in its own right.
I’m just looking for your basic sized single pedal that has 6 alternative tuning options A,D,E,G, C and dropped D without any of that other midi crap on it. Is there any such animal out there ?
I have downloaded the Cool-Bend' patch and the ST-LP duo patch from Tone Central and they DONT WORK ? , the Bend is only on the B' and the other mods shown here are not there, the ST-LP is one sound only and no effect on switches, on both patches the S1 S2 buttons change patch up/down, also the cntl 1 &2 don't do what the inf.on site says.
I wonder if anyone has tried plugging it in the effects loop bypassing the amps preamp. I am eager to try this on stage. I tried at home with a Blues Deluxe and allows to entirely mess with the amp properties while still getting some of that nice tube warmth. Don’t get me wrong, I still prefer my regular pedal board but this is interesting as it a lots for other uses and applications.
Trying to figure out how to use the midi with my Presonus studio one V6 DAW; I can't get the tones to come directly in so I can record the midi. Any ideas how to do this?
Ok so is it a ball ache to fit the pickup to a Les paul bridge? i cant see how i would fit the guitar back in its case if i got someone else to fit it?
Anyone know how to find a good guitar tech for installing a GK-3 Pickup kit in the St. Paul/Minneapolis Minnesota, United States area? Everywhere I go, no one has any experience in this. I went and had the cheap version of the GK pickup mounted and it’s not installed very well and messed up my guitar. I have the Roland GR-55 Guitar Synthesizer and the Boss SY-1000 Guitar Synthesizer. I’ve been wanting to use and play GK pickup technology and guitar synthesizers for over 20 years. I finally have the means but not very well. I need to figure this out. I also have the Boss SY-300 Guitar Synthesizer which is also amazing but the GK Pickup V-Guitar/Guitar Synth tech is so powerful but the Dynamic Synth Engine through regular guitar input is convenient and sounds and feels great. I wish Roland/Boss would release a new GK equipped guitar to make things easier. If anyone knows a good guitar tech for this or a way to find good guitar techs, I’d really appreciate it. Also I’d prefer sticking to Roland’s GK-3 Pickup System but there are 13 pin connection guitars that are alternatives. Brian Moore Guitars & Godin Guitars. Does anyone have any knowledge on these guitars and their version of the GK already built in. How well do they work in comparison to the Roland GK-3? I’m set on the Roland GK System but an alternative would be much easier. I have bad luck with guitar techs. Does anyone know of any other alternatives other than Brian Moore Guitars & Godin Guitars? At this point I’ll take anyones opinion and recommendation. I know this video is old but any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!!
I now want the simple life. No more vg or gk pickups for me. Just a couple of quality analogue floor pedals and a nice instrument. That's all you need.
it's technology.. it's a working progress.. i'm an old school tube amp + guitar guy. but give this thing 3-5 more years, i think they're on a good path, but it does still sound a bit un-organic. i mean the strat and les paul sounds are really caricatures of the guitar sounds we normally have with the real ones.
I would LOVE to see a shoot out of Dreamrigs with Alex on this rig and Paul Hindermarsh or Sean Halley on the JTV and pod HD....... minds would explode! salmon would grow legs!
Victor Johnson I have one too !! In the studio great !! But , there an anomaly for live !! No banks,, so if you use say 6 stock sounds you have to step thru one at a time .and they have to be on order 1-6, If your in sound 1 then need 6 for the next bit !! It's useless !! Because you have to tap the foot switch till you get there !! You'll prob miss your cue ..
I feel a bit sorry for the GP-10. Because it's actually shockingly good at amp and effects simulation, I would argue as good as a Kemper, but because you can do so much silly stuff with it that's what people tend to focus on and thus I think people regard it as just a bit of a novelty to make stupid noises with. Which is a dreadful shame. The only issue I've had with it is the amount of stuff you can do with a single patch is a bit limited: there's only one effect slot per patch (although it has separate ones for chorus, delay and reverb, but if you want anything else, you get a single one per patch and that's it).
Has anyone tried using a Fishman TriplePlay as a controller for this? Did it work? Hiw was the latency if so? What softare did you go through? Thank you.
Guitar Whores triple play doesnt work with gk products. its made as a midi controller for your computer or controlling a hardware synth. gk tech has a piezo in it so you can run like a regular pickup. thats where fishman dropped the ball.
Hey check out this new guitar synth! ‘Plays high gain lead’ It can output signal for each individual string! ‘Plays high gain lead’ It’s so diverse with tunings and effects! ‘Plays high gain lead’
I've 'found' this in 2023 and Alex and Lee are superb in this.Thanks.
One of the best videos I've seen for some time, great stuff. Alex is a pleasure to listen to, both when explaining wizardry and when melting faces.
Alex is one of the nicest people I have met, big respect for this guy, even did a song I requested
Technology is just too sick...i recall imagining possibilities with guitar sounds and effects in the 70's, having little clue I would see where it's gone...much appreciation and joy, not to mention how it's enabled creativity! Wonders
Love all the Andertons' reviews, they are both educational and fun to watch..
wow..i usually step away from these digital stuff so fast that i dont even watch these kind of videos, but its was hell worth it watching this one! not only is Alex a fantastic player, but that little digital thing has to be one of the coolest toys ive ever seen! i just have to give it up to Boss and say, i want one!
Great video. Grats on the amc-50 pedal that is so awesome. Also well deserved so grats on the 50 years too! :-)
The only thing I absolutely love about this is this string bending effect, sounds beatiful!

The AMC 50 was definitely the best part... Man, how cool is that!
This demo was excellent! Coupled with other GP-10 vids I think I understand!
Great video but I really loved the AMC50 presentation. Well done Boss for marking such a great event with such a sweet thing. You sound as pleased as punch Lee and rightly so!
I came here for ALEX!! "period"
Alex playing great as always. pleasure to watch and listen
Alex is also bloody creative, very big respect to you Alex
Alex Hutchings is such a boss! Loving some of the tones :D
this is the most helpful video ive seen on this product. thanks
i think it sounds bloody fantastic....but then i am just a normal person and not complete dickweed like some of the negative fools on here...
Cheers
Chris.
chris scott I have it and it sounds bloody fantastic...
I'm buying it, it's bloody wicked mate x
The Whammy effect is really good as well. Brilliant being able to do chords with it.

great duo together ... enjoyed it a lot
Love Alex he is truly a master, what a great video, one of the best iv'e seen.
Boss shoes on a Boss pedal, well played.

Amazing.
AAAAAAHHHHHH! I've been drinking too much caffeine lately. Luv it Spinnifuchs.

HOLY SHIT, THAT 12 STRING CLEAN STUFF SOUNDS AMAZING!!! Gotta have one of those!!! :)
Good video and some awesome guitar playing skills. I wish everything was recorded with the amp combo though because in my opinion it sounded so much better. I think that always is the case with modeling stuff and I never heard a speaker emulation that I liked.

this guy serious has boss guitar effects shoes
Let's say you have a fret rattle on an A string. Will that rattle/buzz come through the GK-3 pickup and be heard?

The best boss pedal ever
look at captain's reactions when hutch is playing the almost impossible licks with crazy facial expression... :D
Damn, Alex is awesome!

Wow, rob changed recently

AMAZING! 🎵🎸👍😲
Ok I gotta admit that b bender thing is pretty badass.
Bog Drop! Ha, Bogner with a drop tuning! Great name there Alex.
PEOPLE TALK ABOUT GUTHRIE HES AWESOME BUT ALEX IS A BEAST AS WELL!!!!!
Nothing about synth sounds? I thought there would be more examples since this doesn't have any piano, fiddle or wind sounds that GK-55 got.
I now want the simple life. No more vg or gk pickups for me. Just a couple of quality analogue floor pedals and a nice instrument. That's all you need.

these things also lack on the metal settings but are perfect for just about everything else
Could someone tell me if you could do the 3 diff simultaneous bends along with simulating an open tuning all together?
I would LOVE to see a shoot out of Dreamrigs with Alex on this rig and Paul Hindermarsh or Sean Halley on the JTV and pod HD....... minds would explode! salmon would grow legs!

i had that exact problem with hearing the guitar in normal and the amp tuned down using a morpheus droptune pedal, sounded like crap!

When you are so dedicated to your employer you buy brands that have the same name
:-D :-D
Such a nice jazz sound on 18:10 and 18:35 ö
Is programming the drums difficult?

‘Plays high gain lead’
WoW, this guy is a little (over) intense during playing!
Is that a baritone neck/guitar?
Are these patches available anywhere for download?
Does the facial expression @ 6:20 come with the Boss GP-10?
Does it work well on Cleartone pickup in Samick Greg Bennet acoustic guitar??
No, and it's even illegal in many countries!
pleximanic how is it illegal?
The Capt looks a little bored at the start...Maybe he's imagining Alex playing creamy blues licks instead of the shred!
After watching the entire video...I think the Capt was just in awe!
Does this pedal have a violin/symphony/piano effect?
Randy Arteaga LOL
Randy Arteaga i guess u are looking for the Roland GR-55
Capt. looked like he really wanted to laugh at Hutchings' "shred face"
omg you could have standard tuning and then pitch shift it into a open tuning mid song for slides
Anyone else get a Jack Black vibe from Alex at times when he's playing?😂
If I could play that great...I'd be making "happy faces" too!
I need that guitar., i need all
Of em
Boss GP-10 or Roland GR-55?
Somebody who tried these two pedals?
It's not a banana... But the instrument is definitely a nectarine. Oh, and the amp behind you is an orange.
Captains face when he does the whammybar shit....
Feel the wood LOL....at 21:12 nonetheless hehe....priceless
In other news, having met Alex, he's one of the sweetest examples of our species. Yet he shreds like a demon. Le sigh.
The clean B Bender sound and control is the best thing about it.....the distortion sounded crap ...
Can you loop with thi fantastic bit of kit
I would use this as an effects board. I'm not interested in the pickup and switches. It is pretty cool! However, it's not for me.
JESUS! It looks like he has a 42 fret guitar!!!
A Roland Gr-55 kicks this thins ass. I hope it does alot more than what I just heard.
