I just did this yesterday on my 2006 Rav4. Not an easy job, it's tight. My tensioner is the one with a 19mm welded on nut you must get too. Let me tell you, this video is correct. Removing that motor mount is the best thing you can do to make the job easier. It takes less than 5 minutes to remove it. That 19mm nut is almost impossible to get too if you don't remove the motor mount, it is directly below it. When you pull that nut to take the tension off, slide the belt off the water pump pulley, it will come right off. Also the 12 mm lower alternator nut is kind of difficult, it's blind. I put a new belt on too. The Chilton manual helped with that.
i watched this video before replacing my alternator. I proceeded to ignore basically all of it and just released tension, unbolted the alternator, pulled it out and replaced it. Don't make extra work for yourself, this video has you taking apart everything just to replace possibly the most accessible alternator i've ever seen on a modern vehicle
So my altenator is at 40 percent, making bad squeals and the clutch isn't engaging mechanic reccomends changing the whole altenator out...... so that's where I am with this car. Do I have to change the belts aswell and or the other pulleys? I really need helpnwith this head ache of a car.
Nice video, but you failed to mention the lower, motor mount stud, anchored by a 14MM nut. I discovered this by accident with a mirror, when I removed the bolts & nuts that you demonstrated, but my motor mount refused to budge. When you removed & reinstalled the motor mount in its cavity, you can clearly see the stud. Perhaps, an edit of this video is warranted, to save DIYers, like myself, a lot of frustration
Hey guys I just did this job and let me tell you that its IMPOSSIBLE to put the serpentine belt back on from the top. You have to go from underneath the vehicle to do this inorder to finish replacing the alternator or serpentine belt. Step 1: Reinstall new alternator Step 2: Using a 14mm combination wrench (with ratcheting function), put closed end of wrench on the center bolt of tensioner pully (not the top one closest to coolant reservoir) Step 3: Going in a clockwise direction, turn tensioner pully to give you slack all the way. keep going until your behind the bottom left wheel and place the wrench on top of the wheel so you no longer have to hold it. (Trust me you will see what im talking about) Step 4: Fit the serpentine belt around all wheels except the bottom right wheel. Step 5: Put a socket wrench on the BOTTOM LEFT WHEEL NUT Step 6: Turn bottom left wheel and feed the belt onto the bottom right wheel until it snaps itself on. (like putting on a bike chain) Here's a video with a picture of a diagram displaying the proper alignment for the belt. He also states putting the belt back on by turning the wheels. ruclips.net/video/1AakUBbs2uY/видео.html
I've done this a few times and learned that the best way to install the belt is by looping it around the compressor pulley last. Saves so much time and aggravation. But I've never had to remove a motor mount 🤔

Step 1: Completely disassemble the entire vehicle.

It seems overkilled unless this video also tries to show how to change the belt.
This video makes s fairly simple job extremely difficult...please watch another video if you are DIY
10:02 correct block side torque specs per Toyota service manual; top nut and bolt are 70 ft lbs, the bottom side middle nut is 38 ft lbs.
Very professional Thank you for helping people like me god bless you.
is it at all possible to install the belt without taking off the motor mounts?
Yes
What year specifically is the RAV4 you worked on? Thank you for sharing and God bless.

You forgot to mention the 14mm nut on the upper motor mount! Access from below with long extensions!
are you replacing the whole engine, lol
There is also two types of Alternators with one having a S-pin or a RLO-pin for the square plug. Best to check before buying and installing.
You’re a professional thank you God bless
Thanks for doing this video!
Made way to much extra work for yourself not sure why you took the motor Mount out you don’t need to

how many amps is the rav4 2007 alternator?
is that a 3.5L?
This is obviously not a v6.
I have about 2 inches between the block and the radiator to fit the alternator through.
This is great. First buy a lift.
