It's okay....it's fine....it's not that bad.. LOL Did I fall for every temptation?? Ohhh Costco has so many things that I want to buy and they feed them to you while you're there to entice you some more! NOM NOM haha It was great to grab some things after a long stretch without groceries! I don't think I've been shopping since before Christmas because we went away for the holidays! I was lucky I got away with as little as I did really...🤑🤪
And there you go, you completed the circle. ‘I was lucky, really,” is another version of ‘it’s ok.’ Snort giggle giggle. I can 100% relate. That happened to me in thrift shops. Darn those cute clothes and the daily discounts.
First of all…. I LOVE that your freshCo receipt said “it’s value-licious” 😂 that made me giggle. Our favorite things to buy at Costco (in the US) are; microwave popcorn (not because it’s a great deal, but because my husband is picky and he likes the Kirkland brand best), their syrup (the fake corn syrupy kind😂) is the cheapest I can find anywhere, we also like to buy their bulk pancake mix…. But we are a family of 5 and that may take you YEARS to polish off! They also have frequent deals on toilet paper and facial tissue. Our #1 favorite thing to buy at Costco was block cheese, but ours recently stopped selling block cheese 😢 and we don’t like all the anti-caking ingredients in pre shredded cheese. We also shop the sales on coffee there. Groceries have gotten insanely expensive lately. I still think you did a great job, even with the extra added treats. ❤
Thanks for sharing! I think a giant Costco pancake mix would last us forever haha We used to be a family of five and I’m still working at scaling back out shopping now that the kids are out of the nest. I saw so many things there that I used to just pick up automatically! It’s surprising how much less we eat just the two of us! Definitely toilet paper!
I like them and it's not much more expensive than the store brand cheeses :D Armstrong cheese used to be made in a town called Armstrong in British Columbia, Canada (not far from where I live!) but I think the company might have been bought out and moved the factory? I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel! :D
Love your splurge haul! You deserve it, after being so disciplined for the last two months. They are going to build a Costco in my city, and I’m glad that it’s not too close to me. I have no discipline and it seems like I always shop when I’m starving. At least you bought things you know you’ll like. I always end up getting home and saying, “why on earth did I buy this? And this, and this…” anyway, thanks for sharing!
Hi Melanie! It was fun doing a shop in Costco! It’s been awhile! Everything looks so good and there are TONS of things I’d love to try! It can be dangerous for the budget 😂 You’ll have to be careful with one closer to you 😜
I was at Costco 10 days ago. I don't go often as it's a 2-2.5 hour drive away. When I do shop there I also do many other errands in the city (I'm from a small rural town in Australia). I spent AUS$250 on groceries, or CAD$220. I generally but meats, plus gluten, dairy and peanut free foods as Costco has a greater variety and is far cheaper than in my town. I also met mum, who lives 15 minutes from Costco, and did 6 other things I can't do in my hometown.
Yes, I definitely save a Costco trip for when I’m heading into town anyways but mine isn’t quite as far as yours! I definitely had my calculator out checking prices! Costco does have great bulk items but they aren’t always the cheapest!
That's actually a decent price for all those groceries. We spend just about that when we shop at Costco when I splurge. When I focus on the sales and get to the nitty gritty I can spend less than $200 at Costco which is amazing. My local grocery is ShopRite and they have extra savings when they have the clip to coupons deals using the app or the kiosk in the store. Glad you were able to do your big grocery haul. When you love grocery shopping, especially when you know you have a deal on it, then it becomes therapeutic and rewarding. Eh, maybe not relaxing at Costco but those sale prices are amazing!
I agree, I don’t thing I went too crazy lol $200 at Costco would be awesome! Very disciplined! I’m really enjoying looking through the grocery flyers again and hunting down the best deals so it is rewarding and enjoyable!
Hello! I hope you are enjoying March. Thinking about your math on the monthly budget: except for February, each month is more than four weeks. And this year February was more than four weeks! So, 52 weeks divided by 12 months is 4.3. $150 every two weeks then is more like $322 per month.
It really depends on the pay periods I think? Sometimes we even get three in one month (happens a couple of times a year!) but I budget $150 every pay day except January and February.
When I am in Costco, my phone is working overtime. I have one page open to my shopping list, another to the calculator, and 2 more for the supermarkets I usually go to and compare prices as I shop. And what puzzle did I buy from Costco a year ago? The 1000 piece Costco puzzle
Awesome! I’m so excited about the puzzle lol I don’t know if you just hit an age where you start enjoying puzzles again and watching birds or what?! But I’m definitely completely there! Haha I’m so excited for the puzzle but I have to start after Easter when I can take over the dining room table 🧩🧡
lol i spent around the same at sams club and I'm still working off my "debt" from that in my budget. I have an $80 a week budget for two adults so im just working it into the budget until it's gone. So like you, I'm trying to average 80 a week for the whole year so buying cheaper stuff at sams is worth it to me too.
I know right?! I’ll be dealing with that overspend at least through the next pay period! I feel like I at least stocked up on some things. $80 is pretty decent…sometimes it’s nice to buy big things but for the same amount of money I feel like I can get a bigger variety of things in smaller quantities at other stores but some of the cheap prices are hard to pass up!
I went to BJ's (a warehouse store similar to Costco) with a friend who has a membership for the first time in years and had the same reaction - some good deals per unit price but you had to buy such big quantities up front! I had saved up for a few months so it had it's own budget separate from my regular grocery budget so the hit didn't feel as hard but I don't think it is something I will do often ... and I am very glad to have a friend who will take me rather than buy a membership.
Yes, you do have to factor in the membership cost as well! I do know that their meat is cheaper and things like Tylenol and Advil are a great price but with the membership cost I could buy a lot of stuff somewhere else 🤔 I’ll try to make good use of it throughout the year and see if I think it was worth it at the end!
Hi sweet people, i'm catching up. I'm at malaga airport (spain) waiting for my flight home to the netherlands. After a weekend visit to my father. Started out cold and wet, but yesterday and today i caught some sunshine.❤
Beautiful! We stopped in Malaga on a Transatlantic cruise we did! I’ve been thinking about the Camino Portuguese so I was just looking at the weather in Porto and thought it looked very nice compared to here! ☀️ I hope you had a good flight home 🧡
That total wasn't horrible considering you'll eat from it for more than a month . There will be excess and you just went for 2.5 months spending zero! So you've spent an average of 110.00 a month lol...and the pepperoni was a steal when you figure in the loyalty points!
Oo I didn’t know you were so close to me you are until this video. Couple hours away. Do you have a no frills there? I got cucumbers last week - a bag of 5 huge long English cucs for $3 - super good deal. I totally fell victim the 2 weeks of good chicken deals at superstore 😂😂😂 the pantry challenge just made room for me to fill the freezer back up again lol
Cool! We do have a No Frills as well as a Superstore but I think they usually have the same sales? I’m eyeing up the twin pack of whole chickens at Save-On-Foods this week and I don’t think I’ll escape grabbing that deal and stocking up the freezer a bit! 🍗
@@JessicaWanders I thought so too but my kids actually were the ones that insisted it was the better place to go. I don’t fully agree because I find that No frills carries mostly smaller sized items so it’s great for families that don’t bulk buy - but after going in there a few times I am realizing that it is the in store specials that make the biggest difference. I think they clear out extra stock for superstore warehouses. Last week I got spring roll wrappers for 10c a package, pierogees for $2 a bag, and the recent shredded cheese deal was excellent - especially if you found the 1.25 coupon too. They often have bins of things that they are clearing out for fire sale prices.
@@elissapoh7782 Interesting! Thanks for that info! I'll have to swing through and check it out :) I never thought about their in-store specials. Those are always a great deal in every store :D
I think you did really well considering coming off a pantry challenge and it wasn't just a two week regular shop...you got some things that will last months. I noticed a survey on at least one receipt. You could be lucky winner if you do it!! Could cover a couple months of groceries!
Thanks Jessica! There were a few things that were meant to restock some pantry items. Good eye! That survey is always there and I hardly ever do it but I should get better at it! I've never won lol
I do love that the Pantry Challenge cuts down on the groceries every year (and manages to clear some things out of the pantry!) I can't even believe it's March already though!
My last Sam’s club trip was slightly over $600.00 for two people. I think I’d spend less if I went more often. A lot of the snacks will last us almost a year. It was a replenish grocery shop. Nice sales!
Yes, I was definitely picking up some of the things that I had been trying to use up in the Pantry Challenge. Things like the beans will last quite a while!
After my 11 week pantry challenge a LOT of things felt like splurges/impulse buys. But that was a long time just buying the barest minimum each week. If it's not like some bills aren't going to be paid because of the m&M's and pepperoni, get it! I doubt you're splurging and going into debt on Gucci (or the pepperoni 😂) so don't beat yourself up!
Gay Lea hands down has the best Whipped Cream and butter in my opinion. Even when it's not on sale it's worth the splurge for me. The Whipped cream especially is sssoooo good 🤤
I think u did well. I don't go to any bug bix stores. I live by myself and I saw that I over spend, so I don't go to any of them any more. I did spend $70 just at kroger this week for so little. I needed veggies and fruit and that gets high.
I feel the same way Samantha! That's really why I didn't renew my Costco card a while back. Without the kids at home these days we were just spending too much at Costco and it was too much for us! Some things they can't beat though...like medications and things so I thought I'd give them another look and try to be better disciplined...
haha I try to do some of the work for you but sometimes it's so complicated! Mostly because we get prices in both forms! Probably because we trade so much back and forth between Canada and the US it's really common to see both here! I try to just always remember that 1kilogram is 2.2lbs and it helps me sort a fair amount out :D
The fruit at Save On Foods in Vancouver was weird last week. I got those ambrosia apples delivered on that same $4.99 deal. One in the bottom of the bag was rotten to the point it was leaking in the bag. I put the rest of the bag in the crisper and the first one I ate was very crisp and fresh. Its going to be a situation I think where each apple you dont know what you are going to get. The bananas looked nice and yellow but when I tried to peel one it was breaking apart in chunks. I had to cut it off with a knife. The banana inside was gross. Thank god I only bought 2! They had that my offers deal for manadrins for $4.49. They are somewhat hard but at least edible enough and still easy to peel.
That sounds pretty rough! That’s the only problem with home delivery, that you can’t pick your produce. I rifled through a few bags before I found decent apples. The bananas from Walmart last about 30 seconds before they started turning and they were bruised…things are getting expensive and poorer quality I feel like! Maybe I’ll try the mandarins next shop! 👍🏼🍊
Costco is EVIL!! 😈 lol When I was married, a million year ago - okay early 2000's, my ex and I were lucky to get out of Costco for less than $600.00. Often we would take two carts, I would head down the food side, he would head down the other and we would meet at the till. The "idea" was if one of us grabbed something and the other one didn't want it we would just put it back. Only we never put anything back, it was usually "oh cool - that's a great find". If we could have compromised like that all the time I'd probably still be married. 🤣🤣 Seriously though, you are conscientious and budget aware most of the time, you are allowed a Costco splurge!
I was chatting with a couple in the store with a grossly overloaded cart heading to the till, looking exhausted, and they both said **in unison** that they only came in for milk 🤣 It’s how things go at Costco!! When we had the kids at home I regularly had $800 Costco shops. I still don’t know how they ate that much food!! LOL
The first time I ever went to Costco I immediately recognized the danger as they were selling TRAILERS outside the entrance. I considered it “full disclosure”
Costco has the best price on certain things but I always buy too many things. never go to Costco with your husband…budget killer🤣. I usually buy bread, cream, cheese and Olive oil, coconut oil, nuts, parchment paper and the best deal for us is Almond butter. I thought your price for organic coconut milk at your Costco was pretty good. Gay Lea butter is my favourite butter! Except for Kerry gold Irish butter which I can no longer find and refuse to pay the $10+ price for 1/2 lb. Don’t feel bad for impulse buys, it happens! I figured out I am completely incapable of sticking to my list and always buy more than I intend to…. Always! Does your superstore not price match? I try to price match everything I possibly can especially produce. As well I signed DH up for his own pc optimum card and not link them so he gets his own offers and I keep a copy of his card(marked so I can tell) and decide which card to use for best point offers. I also found but didn’t buy the Pace salsa at dollar tree for $1.50. Smaller size though but sometimes I can’t get through the big jars! Great shop!
I’ve learned not to bring Mr. Wanders if I don’t have room in the budget! He has a good time in Costco 😂 Superstore price matches…ahh I could have just bought the rest of the beans at the Freshco prices I guess! Didn’t think of it but I was heading to Freshco anyway. Ya, the big salsa was cheaper but I do usually like to get some variety. We’ll see if it’s too much for us to get through…
I was wondering if someone would ask! Shh I give that to the crows as treats ;) Our last cat passed away a few years ago at 17 years old and we haven't decided to get another one yet...When our cat passed I started giving his left over kibble to the crows and they seemed to enjoy it! We feed the crows other things as well but also some cat food :P
Well since you spent nothing in January and February you actually are under budget to my thinking. $300 a month for January, February and March is $900 - you’ve way under that!
I was hoping to have January and February reduce my budget for the year… 😂 It’s not a huge deal, I’ll try and make up for it (maybe during the $21 a week grocery challenge 🤔 😂)

We’ll see if it’s too much for us to get through…
I wish my impulse purchases were as low as yours!
I was even trying to be soooo good haha!
You've had a cat this whole time and never showed them?!
New here and enjoyed ❤
Awesome! 😄
