    I feel that most ppl see this movie in such a black and white way, Mr yee really loved her, and she saw the affection in his eyes. He knew that he couldn't save her, because in the ending conversation with a staff, he discovered that his staff was watching him the entire time that's why he didn't warn him to stay away from this girl because his boss wants to see wether his loyalty would change around this female spy, the people he works for has arranged spies and surveillance all around him, being that he's Chinese and his traitor identity doesn't change that. He became aware of the fact by that conversation, so he could either try to defy and end up losing everything, his life and hers, or just her life. It was desperation and reality that drove him to sign. And he realized that his betrayal to his country destined his unhappiness from the start, and he was repenting his path by her bed while mourning for the lost love. The complication of the story made the movie beautiful

    i am obsessed by this film. i watched it years ago and yet scenes are still playing in my mind. especially when she whispers, "walk quickly," realizing that the enemy was the only one who hadn't used her. though she had used him. and her friends had all used her.

    I get too emotional at movies, but I remember sobbing in my car after watching this. It really broke the dams. Tony Leung, in a darker role than typical for him, was perfect. Tang Wei was a fantastic blend of innocence and scary maturity. A very good film.

    Every woman should see this film. It is every woman's story. The only thing the naive Tang Wei wants is to be useful, to family, friends, boyfriend, country, and so she lets herself be used. Tony Leung uses her too. But then she discovers love and becomes confused. Loving and using do not go together. The confusion destroys her. Very tragic, but very true.

    I didn't cry when I saw Lust, Caution, but it left a really deep heart wrenching feeling. I think what really did it were all the camera holds of the closeups of their expressions.. I know the sex scenes were really explicit, but they were necessary. It made the overall feeling of the movie REALLY intense. It's not like the sex scenes in action movies, or in pornography; you could see all the emotions and pain in their eyes. I must say, the actors were REALLY damn good in this film.

    That night when she sang for him seems to be that one night where love seemed so possible in the cruel world they live in. I'm assured that both of them knew there were sincere feelings for each other from the both of them. I can't say if it's really love but it's close to that atleast. I love complex characters even if they are also difficult to read and understand. Even if their words and actions don't tell, I can see it in their eyes.

    westsiderny11, glad you like the movie. Ang is known for his "perfectism" in making movies. I heard Tony was asked to interpret a scene in many different ways that he had 40 NGs at a time! I am curious to see how Chang's short novel was translated into English. The original Chinese version was incredibly short but the wording was precise. There were so many "blank spots" in the novel that opened to a lot of imagination. Ang had to "fill in the gaps" during his process.

  • @ejbowey
    @ejbowey 13 лет назад +8

    The sex scene are explicit, but that coinsides with both political and sexual liberation themes of the film. Most films like this would have been censored, but it shows that as an audience we able to look beyond that and see what the significance of the sex scenes are. When I first saw it, I was a little shocked by the 'rape' scene, but maybe because you rarely see this on film, its all a matter of how we interperate the film and our exposure to it. It is a true masterpiece.

    The first time I saw this movie, it was the censored version. The story seemed disjointed. The character's emotion didn't make any sense, especially the ending, when Wei Tang's character warned the Tony Leung's character. I could understand the character much more when I watched the uncensored version. This is not a hollywood flick dotted with needless sex scenes. The sex scenes are absolutely essential to understand the love, hatred, and conflict between the two main characters.

    One of my top movies! A young girl on her own. An absent father who pretty much abandoned her when he remarries. All she has is her friends she’s made through acting. She follows their lead but it doesn’t seem like there’s anyone out there for her. Over time she keeps getting used & used. Although it was never supposed to happen, the enemy was giving her the value & attention she ached for in her loneliness. When she saw her colleagues were not outside she knew the gig was up. She knew he had fallen in love w/ a fantasy. She hinted at saving him to show she was in love with him as well. It would not be possible to explain the truth. In the end I think he knew she loved him. Such a great movie!

    This movie was so real, emotional and riveting. It's one of those movies that, after you've finished watching it, wish you'd never seen it, just so you could watch it all over again.
    It's just unfortunate that some people get so caught up in the sex scenes that they don't realize the symbolism depicted through them. and how they represent the major changes the characters undergo.
    This is not a story about Lust or Caution, but rather a heart wrenching tale about Love and Trust.
