I am glad that the topic of Pica was raised in this film. I have been struggling with this disease for 12 years (I am 18) and I know from my own experience how difficult it is to cure this. Most people know this disease from "My strange addiction" and find Pica ridiculous, they laugh that sick people drink gas or eat sand, they don't pay attention to the psychological problems this people face and how difficult it is to live in a society full of hatred directed at "abnormal" people. This disease is often associated with other mental illnesses or can cause them(because of Pica I'm struggling also with depression and stalking paranoia) . I personally try not to talk about my illness but I hope that after this movie some people will look differently, with understanding at people dealing with Pica ❤

I'm basing this just off the trailer but it probably was just a foreshadow/metaphor to her problem rather than trying to portray ice eating as abnormal. It looks like the sound of her eating the ice broke an awkward silence at the table (hence the saying 'broke the ice'). In the context of the film, its a metaphor for her eating things as a coping mechanism ie: she solved the problem (in this case the awkward silence) by eating. Also, she was doing it in an fancy/elitist environment which highlights this.
My hat is off to anyone who can play one of these 'quietly disturbed' roles. They have to convey so much with their voice, facial expression, and body language.

This movie hit really close to home. I have Pica, and I eat all kinds of things. I go crazy when I can't get my hands on dirt, chalk, paper. I've started consuming lead as well. Every time my mom leaves the house she gets worried. It's so hard having this disorder. I'm happy it's finally being brought to light.
It seems like boundaries are being pushed further and further into the mainstream. I guarantee after this film we will see a rise in the mental illness "Pica" especially among disillusioned teenagers and bored housewives who need to be angsty to feel relevant.
