I prefer seeing the ones with the ads associated with the car instead of seeing random boring stock clips in between.

The style isn't bad, but the pace could be a bit slower and I prefer vintage ads over random stock photos.

The editing in this video is very busy, there's too much going on. It's like every time you say something it has to be reflected on screen and it's just jarring.

Kind of miss the pop culture references that have previously been in the videos. The little bits of humor are a nice touch
7:08 "Subaru added a foothole in front of the rear wheel." The editor highlighted/illuminated the wheel, instead of the foothole. We all know where and what a rear wheel is. Outside of that, the editor did a decent job.

Exactly. Hurried like every second cost money. Fun fact, making it a bit slower would have stretched the video over 10 minute mark and got more ad revenue.

It felt like an educational film for a classroom instead of a mini documentary.
This video was good. But, I miss how most of the clips used were from around when the (insert car here) was built. It seems this new editor is using unrelated clips, logos and art from today. It also seemed way to quick, and didn’t have the same vibe as older videos.
The new editing needs some work. For now I prefer the older style of editing
Fun fact- Regan always had himself filmed driving a jeep cj as to look more american but he liked subaru more as it was easier to drive with a better ride, very true if youve ever dailyd a jeep cj or wrangler.

Daily drove a '76 CJ5 304 4bbl 3sp, '83 CJ5 258 2bbl 4sp & '73 Cherokee Chief 360 4bbl auto from 1983-2010 & had a '88 & '90 Cherokee 258 auto in there too that I used for fun in the woods & hunting but I loved those little Brats just because they were quirky ✌💖☮
somewhere I saw that he had a Scrambler CJ-8 for his ranch - also a capable 'truck' type thing for mud and hills but nearly worthless for cargo

New editing was ok, but I prefer the commercials and movie clips you had in yours.
These niche vehicles never move as many as the manufacturer expects but they are always loved by their market. I just hope they keep trying stuff like this

When I was a kid I thought, and still do, that the Subaru BRAT is one of the coolest cars, after the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am.
I considered a smaller 4x4 vehicle a great idea for North US areas, ski 🎿 towns.

The only difference I saw in the editing was that you use more retro commercials and footage than the other guy, which probably takes more research and work to put together. Seems like the BRAT and similar vehicles were the predecessors to the unibody trucks we see now, such as Hyundai Santa Cruz, Honda Ridgeline and Ford Maverick.

The only editing I seen that was flawed is they highlighted the rear wheel instead of the foot hole you were talking about.

The footage of the "Brumby" at 6:30 through 6:35 is from the recent Mighty Car Mods series where they restored/modified a barn find Brumby with the help of Subaru of Australia. They did a really nice job of it, swapping in a 2.0L SOHC engine from a 1st gen Subaru Forester.

Yes, and it's a little annoying because the editor is showing it as an example of the 80s BRAT when the MCM Brumby is a modern restomod with custom 3D printed and Forester parts that aren't representative of the actual car.

I didn't even watch the video yet, and this is his first video with the new editor so things may get ironed out in future videos, but I wonder how they let THAT slip through... yikes 😬
Yes about a 1973 General Motors Holden HQ ute to represent a 1957 Ford Ute.
It seems there are artificial effects like discoloration/overexposure or dust particles being added to archival footage to make it look more "authentic"? I find it quite distracting.
Yeah, the “snowy” effect makes for a poorer-looking video. It’s okay for a couple of seconds, but is used far too long here.
🤦♂️ the new editor needs to brush up on Aussie utes. 2:44 that’s a Holden HQ Ute shown next to Ford. You get hung, drawn, and quartered for that here.

The BRAT was awesome they were all over Hawaii when I was a kid...but they did rust terribly.
Pretty good. Just slow it down a bit to keep that relaxing pacing going.

This reminds me of the much newer ordeal where Ford imported passenger vans made in Europe to the US. Then removed the windows and seats. Bolted panels in place of windows and put a floor mat over the rear floor once the landed in the US. Before they even got to their destination area of the country. Can you do a video on these? Please? I seem to remember it was to get around a so called potato tax

Would love to have seen a split screen with the video you would’ve made for the brat to get a good idea of how different the two production styles would’ve been.
You can watch Patrick’s recent video on the Fiat X1/9 as a good comparison. The differences were pretty noticeable to me.

2023, I saw a Suburu BRAT for the first time since the mid 1980s! It was around a 1980 model, brown & beige, sloooooooow as hell. But boy did it stand out on a road full of dystophic modern cars!

1971 Ford F100 3.9L inline 6. It was indestructible. Offenhauser 4 barrel intake with Holley Carb and Pacesetter dual exhaust headers. Man, it was a torque monster and loud. For only 240 cubic inches, it surprisingly pulled like a diesel.

The Subaru BRAT was made famous in the 1980s TV show, Kidd Video, a collaboration between Saban and DiC that had live action and animated segments.
The photo of the “Ranchero” was actually a Holden.

As for the outside editing contractor: Some of the frames/clips didn't match in content to the dialog that went with them. It was like as if the editor didn't know anything about cars.
The effects were decent though.
Another great review and explaination of history. The editor did a great job, I liked the different pictures used to illustrate and punctuate different historical times, but I agree, it could've been slowed down but flows well all the same.
I learned two new words thanks to you: Retcon, imposes a different interpretation on previously discribed events. Brumby, a wild horse, especially one that has decended from runaway stock.
I first learned of the BRAT from the game Forza Horizon 3, that was a 1980 GL and even though the game was set in Australia, it was still called the BRAT and still had the seats in the bed!

The picture for the Australian Ford Ute was wrong, it showed a 1970s Holden (GM).

The BRAT sure was a weird looking car
The Japanese small truck manufacturers, including the Chevy LUV (made by Isuzu) and the Ford Courier (made by Mazda) got around the chicken tax by "assembling" them in the USA. They shipped the trucks without the beds attached and shipped the beds separately. Hence, mating the truck with the bed in the USA was the final assembly. Built in the USA.
As an aside, when those trucks started to age, the paint on the truck would fade at a different rate than the bed.
This is a great channel. Found it doing research on the Brat projects we have. How about the Mazda MX6/Ford Probe opera?
Also from 2:31. Both General Motors Holden and Ford Australia had been making car based utes from 1934 based on the full size Chevrolet and Ford models being assembled in Australia with significant local content. Lots of locally stamped panels for the ute versions. Later Chrysler models and virtually every company assembling in Australia had ute versions. None of them looking like the Japanese forward control truck shown.

One thing he didn't mention was the air ride option package. When it was put into 4wd it went up 27mm. It also went down 19mm when it reached 55mph. And, there was also 1 light in the centre of the grille that came on in 4wd. It could also be turned on by a dash button. Cool vehicle!

Man, I loved the BRAT! Always wanted to own one, sadly they are very rare in the States now. Only way to get one is to import it from Australia, if a good one can be found. Until then, I'll try to get me a Baja.

I see plenty of brats for sale in CO, usually they can be had for $2-3k in good shape

The US Government recalled the Brat I believe in the 90’s to remove the rear seats because a rollover could kill people in those seats because the heads of those passengers would be above the top of the roof.

Why were the two rear seats welded into the BRAT, instead of being bolted and removed? That's what Ford did with the Transit Connect vans. They were built in Turkey and imported as passenger vans, to avoid the Chicken Tax. Upon arrival in the U.S. (before being sold), the rear windows were replaced by metal panels and rear seats/seatbelts were removed.
I have post-concussion syndrome. There are so many moving patterns and pointless flashing bits of light at the screen edges, I became nauseated and couldn't finish the video.☹️
Ford later did the same with the Turkish-built Connect van and got into a legal fight with US customs over it.

The chicken tax cost the US a lot of interesting vehicles, including the Australian Ford and GM high performance Utes.
Good job to the editor, only differences I noticed were a slightly faster pace in the cuts, and a boost in crispness of the video.

Same here. I guess the new editor wanted to show they're worth the money they're being paid, and made a graphic representation of every part of every sentence. It's a little overkill.
