Sure, he might easily get overwhelmed… but so would most plants if you only planted down two attackers on one lane during a wave. The thing about chomper is that he had a very fast recharge and is relatively inexpensive. So, he’s a really fast charging instant-plant that can counter most zombies, which is pretty good.
Exactly , he’s good if you use him as a insta kill or ATLEAST give him some type of support and put some type of walnut infront of him , he also can help clear gargantuars if you have a freeze/stun consistently on the gargantuar

@@TerrariaTree1 istg , thats why i said if you have a freeze/stun to STALL , of course he wouldn’t one shot everything , that would be too op , you can use alot of plants to help chomper like iceberg lettuce , an underated pick is the stunion , theres also primal walnut and spikerock who can take more than 1 hit from gargantuar and Infi-nut’s plantfood

Ay unpopular opinion, maybe plant them far back a few row, let the cabbage stall until you get a row or 2 chompers? They are very strong if you can keep up with sun their sun cost. Sure later levels we use them when the potato mines are off cd, but seeing the early game struggles makes me so sad

They don't have to be the best, but they're usually somewhat unique
the premium pea shooters are good you should try em next

The problem with chomper, was when he got released.

He also had a very slow reaction, which you can kind of still see in this video.
You aren't using Chomper to its fullest potential either. Chompers perform ideally when the zombies are spaced out so you should plant them further back so when a new group of zombies spawn, its far from the current group that the chompers are dealing with. You also notice that they have a cooldown when they are munching on the zombies so they work best with a blocking plant in front of them even if its a weak temporary blocker like a sunflower.
This game also is not designed to be played with just one single plant as your attacker so that is also why it fails sometimes but maybe insta-win is a fair expectation from a premium plant.
chomper has always been one of my favorite plants, maybe not gameplay wise but its design and concept idea on paper always appealed to me
why are you buying these plants when you could get them for free through editing your pp.dat file

if I'm correct chomper was really bad for the price, but not so long ago they buffed him and now he's much better.

I think they should be able to chew through each zombie separately, but getting full when at 2, which would require to wait for the second zombie to be chewn. What I mean by that is: if chomper eats 1 zombie, he gets 1 stack, and he will digest it within 7 seconds, which will empty his storage back to 0, but if he eats another zombie during that time, he would get 2 stacks, and he would need to wait out 7 seconds + 1-7 seconds from the first stack. That way they may become quite decent, because the main issue is that they eat 1 zombie, then they have to wait for the second zombie to eat in order to start digesting.

Definitely my most favourite plant as well, and on Garden Warfare I was maining him and yes he had quite a few disadvantages but on Battle for Neighborville? Now THERE they made it an absolute Chad! Sniping zombies from a distance and if they are all grouped up, one goop and you just see them melt! The most hilarious thing is that that effect they can just basically endlessly keep spreading it to each other with the one respawning and getting close to another one before it runs out, once when I was playing the enemies kept it going for quite a while!

It would be nice to see them cover the caulipower next since it’s basically a superior hypnoshoom like plant that hypnotizes zombies. You can beat the level in modern day that introduces brick heads with it as your only offensive plant.

Chomper is actually one of the best Plants but completely misunderstood. He shares this trait with guacodile, he should be a one and done kinda thing.
His best synergy is actually not even with a plant but a mechanic, being the shovel bonus that goes up to a staggering 75% depending on how many you have.
You don't integrate Chomper in your defense, maybe behind a wall or anything, you just place him, let him eat, shovel, repeat. Usually he only eats once before chewing in mods but that is still a perfectly reliable instakill plant every 5 seconds!! And it doesn't even take time to arm with the added bonus of killing rockpunchers (no other insta does that, not even chilli bean or hypno shroom) and armor 4 zombies which usually also survive some instakills. And if you shovel him after that, that makes him cost a total of ~35 sun which is nothing short of impressive and (theoretically) even powercreeps absolute powerhouses like magnifying grass in certain scenarios.
Calling Chomper bad is just foul.
Also yeah, Vanilla players could also just use Pokra but this thing makes every other plant seem worthless, so yeah.
i wouldn't call chomper anywhere near one of the best plants for a simple reason: chomper simply fails at its job. chomper is a melee plant that attacks with an instakill. it's intended to be used in a similar manner to other short range attackers like bonk choy, toadstool and snapdragon. bonk choy isn't great, though i'd argue its consistency is much better than chomper's when it has a wall plant supporting it. bonk choy is a lot worse than snapdragon though. but why use short ranged plants, anyway? why not build a defence with power and range? it's not hard to use plants like pea pod, winter melon, laser bean, magnifying grass, red stinger, banana launcher or dusk lobber, just to name a few options.
additionally, it would be important to mention that chomper is a terrible plant in every sense in the world it was introduced in- being entirely reliant on lily pad to get anything done while being worthless in the back and completely defenceless against fisherman zombies.
chomper's short recharge can be exploited to use chomper in the same way one would use an insta, but that isn't chomper's intended job. the lower cost, faster recharge and lack of any utility beyond killing make chomper better in this context than toadstool. chomper is a bad plant at fulfilling its role. but being a bad plant means it's spammable, not that expensive and replaceable. being a bad plant is what makes chomper good, but that doesn't make chomper one of the best plants.
Chomper... is not even close to the best plant.
As another mod player, Chomper is not even close to good. But he's not terrible, he's alright.
Usually, you use him as a fast-charging insta that can kill tanky threats.
Sounds good, but he struggles against groups of tanky threats and generally just gets outclassed by general-purpose instas and simply usually doesn't have a place in a game where heavy plants can be rushed out extremely quickly.
In my opinion, it's worse than Guac simply because Guac fits better in a spam-heavy meta.
It's best trait is probably countering Octo honestly.

@@scotterboi9 Idk if you didn't understand or I just worded it in a bad way, but Chomper is often one of the best plants in many mods, never in Vanilla obviously. Just like Repeater for instance. I don't know which mods you play, he obviously doesn't work everywhere, especially if it has at most 1 sun shovel bonus.
@@mudtube243 idk about pvz1 mods but every pvz2 mod its just fine, and I've played a lot of them and diverse ones from reflourished to eclise to reprise and even garden rush, the only time I used it because it was good and not just filler instant slot is an eclise special level with kill 30 zombies in 60 seconds and otherwise id just use other instants like guac or cherry as they can do similar things without being a nuisance to deal with its weaknesses, honestly I find it more of a psuedo-"for now"-wall not as much an instant.
Admittedly, I do enjoy using it but by no means is it the best plant in any mod I've played.
Try speedrunning pvz2 alternate universe, it's a mod that changes the progression to 10 levels per world and each level is actually interesting. Basically pvz2 if it was good, also all plants are free
I love how he expects 1 chomper to take on like a full lane without a plant food, and when he doesn’t speezy is like “WELL How DId tHat hapPeN”

The saying "you put the cart before the horse" is a real saying and its been used for a very long time
The problem with peoples use of Chomper is that he is a semi instant use plant with a very quick cool down. Not a permanent attacker just look at how the speedrunners for Pvz 1 use him. Regardless he should never have been a premium.
Chomper, even when balanced for the insane levels of PvZ2, doesn’t even feel like a premium plant - he feels like an early-to-middle plant in the base game. There is no justification for making the Chomper purchasable with real money.

Chomper was used as an insta back in the first game. They should still be as good as before if not better after the buffs. And the sun meta pretty much means their 150 sun cost isn't as much of an issue as it seems. Still not worth giving 5$ to EA
If you can get your hands on some tiger grass then it is my fav premium plant bcz it solo's a gargantuar when plantfood and plantfood effect is perma

His Plantfood Effect Sucks up Zombies to eat, and then he Burps, Pushing Back any other Zombies in the lane he hasnt eaten. I think his normal non Plantfood Burps do the same when he's leveled up

the problem with almost everything in pvz2 is that popcap runs out of ideas and just makes "(X) but overpowered!" because theyre incapable of designing plants for anything but arena mode. PVZ2 development should've stopped after Modern Day Part 2, maybe then BFN and PVZ3 would be actually good games
You should try stalling by not offing the zombies too early, which buys you time to set up a good chomper defence. For example spam freeze and walls and only plant chompers on column 3 then 4. Walls also makes the waves more manageable.
I think Chomper is very worth it when they lower its price to $0.99 as they routinely do

Pvz2 chomper got a major buff over pvz1, 2 bites and much faster recharge, but both are ok for most casual players, if I recall correctly they are hated so much because in more advanced levels and for challenge runs they are effectively useless, plus there are a lot of plants that are just better.

So if memory serves it’s “bad” in comparison to the snapdragon (a free plant you get in the pirate area.) the thing is most people do have those plants behind the wall so just one. Snapdragon covers three lanes wide and like 2-3 squares ahead and it doesn’t have a cooldown. As a team composition it’s just not as good, at least that’s how it was. I don’t know if that’s changed.

idk if most ppl knows this trick, once Zomboss gonna stomp the plants, you can plant insta-kill, or any mint family or (immortality plants) to stun Zomboss, and same goes with feeding the plant with plant food infront of zomboss, and it will stun him because the plant is unable to get killed. but be careful tho, some plants have shorter plant food effect.
and it only works for robots that have a stomping phase.

I'd argue toadstool is worse since the chomper buff that lets it eat 2 zombies before chewing. The range is cool and all but that only makes it more likely to eat a random zombie than something that's actually tanking hits. The sun production also isn't worth it due to how slow it is and how easy it is to make sun quick in general. I think chomper has a faster chewing time now too.

the chomper is used on speedruns to one shot zombies when the other one shot plants are on cooldown, it is used as a backup for a secondary plant, it is not that great but it is not that bad either if you use it the right way

The old PVZ1 strategy for chomper is to use it directly behind a walnut/tallnut so that he eats a zombie and has time to chew and swallow before eating another zombie. For this reason you plant them fairly far back from the front lines normally.
I love how the Chomper is such a polar opposite in Garden Warfare. In PVZ2, it dies almost immediately, but in Garden Warfare, he’s the tank for the plant side.

I'm so mad this is a premium while squash costs gems and primal is free. Out of all the 4 premiums in pvz2 that are from pvz1, Snow Pea makes the most sense. The other four are bad. Cactus's abilities are whatever, Imitater's Imitation is not really worth it and Chomper is just awful in everyway.
For context, Chomper is a good Instant, but bad DPS.
The goal of DPS is putting consistent damage on the field, and as much as possible.
The goal of an Instant is to provide a moment of really high damage and/or support.
Chomper is capable of 2-hitting some of the weaker bosses and has one of the shortest cooldowns, but he has to take time to chew that leaves him vulnerable to a sizable wave.
Use him like you would a Potato Mine, or a Cherry Bomb.
Ever since chomper got the massive buff basically being FOUR TIMES BETTER, He definitely can be great especially as a spammable insta kill.
Playing chomper at the front of everything without even using walls for it seems just like trolling,even if the plant is bad (and it's) playing this mindlessly is not accurate for how good it can be.
the day he gets a seedium plant like pokra or whatever is the day he truly sees how broken that stuff is. (most of the seedium plants come in packs every now and then along with the newest ones) if you want to know what seedium plants are i would reccomend just looking it up since explaining is very complicated.

chomper against gargantuar was cracked in pvz1 tho because he wouldn't chew until the zombie in he was targeting was eaten and he did a lot of damage, and he would just keep chomping the garg until it was dead

As good as the chomper is, it gets outclassed by an other close range plants like headbutter lettuce or the parsnip. Not In coolness tho just practicality.
