There is one scenario where Toadstool outclasses Chomper (outside of charm because... look at it and tell me it isn't cute): attack rate. As stupid and unoptimal as it is, the toadstool's damage rate against beefier targets like mechs or gargantuars is superior to chomper's one chomp per 2 seconds. It also makes a better panic button than chomper similar to pvz1 chompers, but if you're using them like that then the level is already not in your favor.
Sure Caulipower has the same randomness aspect that electric blueberry has, but it's ability to hypnotize zombies is really good that it outweighs the cons. As hypnotized zombies always help out.
Chomper is honestly super underrated. Ever since his buffs he is a really good front row plant and can do some good work. Like being able to eat 2 zombies at a time is such a good ability and he has really good dps against gargs and mechs. He is FAR from being the best, not even close, and while there isn't a plant he can be ranked higher than in this list (maybe except electric blueberry), I geniunely dont think he is a bad plant in the grand scheme of things.
I don't think any of these plants are really 'bad', it's just that since all the premiums are very good there had to be some worse than others. Looking back I could have moved chomper up above electric blueberry
@@koalapvz Yeah chomper should definetly be above electrical blueberry because chomper CAN deal with crowds as you can see at when you said it can't deal with crowds 8:35 or something. Also you forgot to mention Chomper can also be used as a 5 second instant.
Funny thing is I'd argue Gold Bloom has been power crept and thus doesn't deserve #1 status. Solar Sage costs 0, starts with a minimal recharge, recharges in 20 seconds AND acts like a plant food'ed Sun Bean to almost all regular size zombies.
By that logic though attacking plants on the list like cold snapdragon have been power crept by OP attackers like Pokra. So I guess every plant kind of gets powercrept by seediums equally, besides Imitator which is why I put it on the list.
I am interested in the way you use the term crowd control. As a league player I'm used to hearing it in the context of stuns/slows etc. How you use it seems to refer to the plants' ability to deal damage in an area or to multiple zombies. I thought this is interesting
@@KhajaSodhuLeague of Legends likely. Comparing two completely different games with the same logic. Though to answer catmuch's question In the tower defense genre, crowd control almost always means countering swarming as a strat by doing AoE damage or remove group sponges that defend an otherwise tanky threat. This could be in the form of an AoE attack, or a high DPS, low power attack like lightning reed that hard counters chicken zombies, the bane of many plays due to it's large numbers and high speed. There's also cases where large groups of basic zombies could be blocking the shots towards a wizard or octo zombie that will destroy your towers, so you need a way to reduce those numbers so you can hit the bigger threats with plants like Electric blueberry or Caulipower.
Bro, Chomper is way better than you are giving it credit for. Sure, it doesn't kill gargantuars, but it does massive damage. If you bring, say, a primal wallnut to stall it, then you should be able to kill the gargantuar with it. Furthermore, although it only kills 1 zombie at a time, the recharge is very fast, making them very spamable. Their chewing time is much faster in the game than in PvZ1. And PvZ2 levels have less zombies generally, making Chomper pretty great to use to just spam it on the lawn. It counters pretty much every zombie too, except for the zombies that have a far distance attack.
Sure, it’s good if it wasn’t for the fact that it costs 5 dollars and if your spending that much you should be spending it on something worth it like caluipower that can not only one shot a garg at a range of the entire board but can REVERSE IT ON YOUR SIDE just for an additional 100 sun pretty good deal if you ask me
In my opinion Best 1. Gold Bloom - Easy 375 sun instantly for early setup 2. Snow Pea - Chilling an entire area is really good 3. Electro Pea - Bypass multiple zombies on 3 lane 4. Grapeshot - Cracked Cherry Bomb 5. Power Lily or Imitater - Good support plant Worst 5. Escape root - Armed like potato mine that can become cherry bomb 4. Cactus - He's alright I guess? 3. Chomper - Power creep by other eating plants 2. Witch Hazel - Attack slow and Caulipower is better 1. Electric Blueberry - Attack slow and Caulipower is better Edit: I didn't realize how bad Toadstool is. Chewing for 30s in a fast paced game is a liability. Also, I may underestimate how good Cold Snapdragon is
I can't quite remember if this is an allowed move, but if Escape Root can move endangered plants, then that's a good niche use for him. Putting endangered plants where you actually want them to be instead of where they were placed originally. I'm unsure if you can actually use it in this way though, I don't have the plant.
In fact, escape root can be an infinite staller. Basically an infini nut but.. always infini. So how you do this, when the zombie is close and the escape root turns into a insta kill plant move it and there you have it. I never tried this but i heard it. So feel free to try.
1:49 no wizard is actually great priority he stays at the back and is more annoying then octo zombie when you plant is turned to sheep good luck getting it back
8:13 the thing is, is that actually a bad thing? With basic shovel upgrades (so mid and later worlds) you can just use it as a 75 sun, 5 sec recharge 2-time insta. I mean pvz2 meta revolves around instas anyway so i think its a pretty good plant if you use it like a coconut cannon. Plant it, wait out its two insta kills and then shovel it, then plant it again in like 2 seconds bc low recharge (I think?).
I think the thought process when they where creating gold bloom was: we like money which means players also like money, in pvz sun is money so players like sun meaning players would love to get sun because we would LOVE to get money
Gold Bloom was free when it first came out. You got it by completing an event. It was a few years later that they made it have a high price realizing how powerful it was, but yeah...ironically most of us old school players got it for free. XD
Someone made a point about Guacadile(Think it was Creeps), saying that it's basically 100-sun-cost, fast-charging insta-kill plant. I think that concept could be applied to Chomper. What are your thoughts on this?
tysm bro i didnt know which plants i should buy cuz if i wanted to buy all of them it would be $105 and i couldnt figure out by myself which ones would be best to buy
Mostly based takes plants like witch hazel and electric blueberry tend to be over hyped with their insane recharge time but there’s a tipping point for them where you eventually have so many that it’s impossible to lose. I like to pair them with another plant with big aoe and really let them go to town.
11:43 which is why my normal strats are(idk is dumb or not)primal sunflower g bloom enlighten-mint primal peashooter cherry primal potato thyme warp Basically stall and install kill (Sometimes i will bring winter melon too)
can I rant about how cool snap pea is: -175 sun -has lane-wide range -shoots peas at mechs and gargs -shoots a single high damage projectile after swallowing -plant food ability is pretty cool -good secondary attacker
Shoots 3 peas at a slow rate against mechs and gargs. It's actually countered by them the same way Toadstool is because it doesn't do anything threatening to them at all. Chomper does a lot of damage per chomp to them and it's plant food can push them back, while the other two would be wasted on a garg. so even though it seems like a jack of all trades plant, It does have a weakness that really matters. I really like it though.
Actually, Escape root is The Best plant. FOREVER WILL BE If this Bug Does not Get Fixed... If you Arm and Escape Root Right before she Turns into a Potato Mine she Becomes Invincible. Just got this game again after 10 years. Sad to see what EA did to it, but I love a lot of the new plants; especially Electric Peas. I understand why they didn’t make it on the list, but I’m making an Honorable mention for my Zoop-Zoops! They Zoop zombies into ashes, and are a lot of fun to use with lighting-focused builds.
I like using Grape in conjunction with Cherry bomb to have 2 insta explosions effectively cutting recharge in half. Great for destroying Z-mech or Coach Z quickly.
thank you for actually praising snow pea for what its worth its actually a super good plant since if you have enough of them the zombies are just in a constant state of freeze and its hella cheap and spammable its actually one of the best plants in the game i'd argue it also works well with plants like coconut canon and banana launcher since you'll have some leftover sun with all those snowpeas its always been my favorite and its buff is really good i def reccomend using it
As a person who has hacked the game before. This video gives alot information about premium plants and to not be like me and hack the game. Buy a good premium plant or just dont buy
Regarding Goldbloom, I decided to boot up my old account in PopCap's PvZ2 and I apparently have the plant despite never owning it before. So it's very likely that they gave it away to old players at some point, or it's just completely free to anyone now.
I think CauliPower deservers one spot on the best plants, It is great in single-player and arena when paired with imitator, it basically one-shots any zombie and turns it to your side (allowing great crowd control if you have at least five of them) and it is very fun to use and create an army with it.
Cool ranking! I have some disagreements though: 1:Snow Pea should still be in the worst list. It is straight up a worse Winter Melon. 2:Escape Root has a secret ability. If you hold it while a zombie is coming to it and when the zombie comes to it and you hold it to an empty tile when it is about to explode, it will become invincible. Yes seriously. Nothing is able to kill it, even Gragantuars.
I would say snow pea is more of a mid tier premium plant and imitator should be the one ranked in number 5 while caulipower is ranked 4/3 snow pea has some of advantage over winter melon such as low cost and a chance to freeze zombies
1:29 - Crowd Control, although the name would seem to imply it, doesn't have anything to do with crowds, but rather is a term (in video games) used to describe a stun or a slow or another effect that hinders one or more enemies, rather than AoE which I think was the word you were looking for. Cheers!
In Tower defense, the purpose of crowd control is to do exactly what he's trying to get at. If you have like several basic zombies walling a dangerous zombie like octo zombie, you need to get rid of them so you can effectively destroy the stronger one that's threatening your board. Destroying weaker zombies IS crowd control as swarming is an effective strategy to block single target or limited range shots meant for stronger enemies, wasting DPS. And yes, the weakness of those plants is despite having strong power meant for stopping stronger zombies, they are vastly overwhelmed by weaker targets absorbing the hit, especially since for "balance reasons" they prioritize targetting weaker zombies or in Witch Hazel's case, the free puffshroom dies instantly doing effectively nothing worth the cost. That's why the plant either needs to target stronger zombies more effectively, or needs to help clear the road.
@@MarioMastar What you are saying is perfectly reasonable, but it's not Crowd Control. What you are referring to is AOE (Area of Effect). A Crowd Control effect is a stun, a freeze, a silence, or the like. For example, Iceberg Lettuce is a Crowd Control plant, while Melon Pult is an AOE plant!
I agree with you, but you also forgot about electric peashooter. It is very op if you plant 2 or 3 rows of them, has multiple lane attack and a crazy plant food effect. Let me know your opinion on it!
unless it got patched and i wasnt aware, if you plant grapeshot inside of a gargantuar it can actually one shot it due to the way the grapes bounce i could be wrong, but i remember doing this to cheese gargantuar spam
chomper is always a weird plant because the strategy behind it is so odd having two good uses. The first is as a reusable instant kill and the second is as a fast recharge instant kill. The problem is that with most sun economies paying 150 sun repeatedly for this plant is rarely within the budget versus most projectile plants that as long as they live longer than 5 seconds are worth the investment. Honestly ghost pepper uses the same design principles but is just better except for damage.
In the early days of PvZ2 it made more sense. Chomper was an insta kill and Snow Pea was a projectile that slows zombies. Compared to the single use Ice lettuce and the high priced wintermelon, it was balanced around being easier to spam and getting the same effect. and Chomper being a fast recharge insta kill for one zombie compared to Squash's slower recharge made it more spammable. But with IMMENSE power creep over the years, both kind of feel like they should be free. At least Chomper was buffed to eat 3 zombies now before chewing and only costs a dollar, as Snap pea literally out classed it in every possible way.
gold bloom is good for players who has not many upgraded plants (or in the earlier versions of the game) but when most sun producers get in a higher level, its practically useless
I only considered level 1 plants for this video. But yeah I can see how that would happen. Also plants get cheaper at higher levels so the need for sun to begin with is reduced.
@@koalapvz tbh you can basically just plant food primal/twin sunflower in penny's persuit instead of using gold bloom still overall useful in arena adventure and expansion levels
Gold bloom still provides an easy quick way to get them down faster, but frankly if you have all level 10 or 20 sun producers... or Solar Sage, you'll get a lot of sun quickly. It was free if you beat the gold bloom challenge though so many people got it for free.
In the chinese version there is a better chompper called dino grass and his purpose is to destroy dino eggs and does the same thing as chomper but as he digests zombies he can shoo goo that hurts zombies and at level 5 (plants in the chinese version can only go to level 5) it can make a poison puddle after digesting or shoots a giant lazer that hurts all zombies in the lane
Toadstool is very niche but isn't the worst plant I feel I honestly hate the strawberry most. I mostly tend to fall into playing low tier hero strategies so I find uses for toadstool best use I've found so far is it's great in dark ages endless against gargantuars. As not only using it counters a need for the space sun flowers waste it also does huge damage to gargs, graves, and makes sun the only issue is you need really good crowd control for basics so that toadstool always has something to eat but is never eating when you need the damage output.
I can't agree with you on your ranking regarding Witch Hazel. Dude, Witch Hazel provides additional early defenses by eliminating zombies and also summoning puff-shrooms after that. Puff-shrooms provides early defenses that can stall zombies for some time (It can kill a regular zombie). It enables the Witch Hazel to recharge her attack and then summoning another puff-shroom. Additionally, it protects 3 lanes. Plant it in the 2nd and 4th lane and it covers all of your lawn. It's also an insta-kill plant (Except for stronger zombies such as Gargantuars). And another addition, she targets those zombies who are closest to her, and she directly targets one of the, if not the most annoying zombie in the entire game, WIZARD ZOMBIE. She's not the very best, but I can justify that she's not the worse either.
Ok, I'm late but I genuinely think putting stool in the bottom is kinda defeating it's point. Unlike chomper I use it more as a supporting plant for building sun and having instant kills for things like jesters. I don't like chomper cause it's range is limited, limiting its potential to eat more than a few zombies per row(per plant) but the range of toadstool makes it easier to use as just a free insta for harder zombies outside of gargs. Genuinely love the plant, kinda sad to see it as the worst but I get why.
Imo it was kinda confusing how you go 5 worst, 5 best, 4 worst, 4 best etc etc, other than that, great video! I agree with practically everything you said
So let me recap real quick gold Bloom is a some producer that gives you 375 sun but if you decide to use imitator you get 750 sun. That's 10 sunshrooms and a winter melon! A winter melon!
@@MarioMastarso if we buy going blue before the plant and food tutorial well before day three gold bloom and imitator that 750 sun will turn into 2,250.
despite my personal bias, I will admit after watching this video I've realized that toadstool and chomper are kinda trash, but they're both some of my favorite plants regardless.
Y’know, I kinda feel like putting escape root on the worst spot is kinda criminal because there is a glitch where he will become invincible, but at the same time there is also a glitch that’s makes him useless soo
I know everyone will hate me but here me out, I use chomper to take down normal, conehead, and Bucketheads so it's basically a first few zombies thing and then you can get your shovel and it's better than toadstool and can at least eat wizards or squids
I’ve never understood why frozen pea was ever considered a bad plant, with the waves this game like to throw at you, being able to slow them down and still do decent damage should’ve been a smash hit but idk
Yeah that suck for chomper. Funny part is bonk choy can easily replace chomper. Since bonk choy is free getting the upgrade is pretty easy and 2 bonk choy can defense a lot without the downside alongside with a pretty good nuke plant food
Top 3 best premiums 1. Electric peashooter 2. Parsnip 3. Grape shot And if you are wondering why I put parsnip above grape shot even though grape shot does more damage grape shot is a single use and does kills a a good amount of zombies zombies on the map and is honestly very good but parsnip is a melee plant and does great damage so it is better in my opinion
Grape Shot is also power crept by Bomagranate and especially Heath Seeker. There’s no reason to use Cherry Bomb if you have any of these better plants.
@@10thDoctorWhoovez Yeah Bombegranite is really underwhelming, and actually kind of worse than Cherry bomb because you can level up cherry bomb more easily. Bombegranite doesn't really get useful buffs from leveling up the seeds compared to grapeshot. and as far as utility goes, you can end up nullifying Bombegranite by planting over the bomblets she drops. Heath Seeker though is practically a screen wipe. I dunno if they nerfed it but probably not. XD

@@KhajaSodhuI hate that chopper isn’t free. Sane with the other pvz1 plants.
The chomper shouldn't be a premium plant lol.
Suggestion: Witch Hazel's Puff-shrooms have their defense scales with the target's remaining HP.
That actually seems pretty cool and would make it Maybe better than caulipower
Funny thing is I'd argue Gold Bloom has been power crept and thus doesn't deserve #1 status.
Solar Sage costs 0, starts with a minimal recharge, recharges in 20 seconds AND acts like a plant food'ed Sun Bean to almost all regular size zombies.
It's a seedium
By that logic though attacking plants on the list like cold snapdragon have been power crept by OP attackers like Pokra. So I guess every plant kind of gets powercrept by seediums equally, besides Imitator which is why I put it on the list.
@@koalapvzwe don't talk about Polaris
I have a grapeshot strat for you if you use grapeshot in the bossfight in pennys pursuit it can shred the easy boss in like 30 seconds
I am interested in the way you use the term crowd control. As a league player I'm used to hearing it in the context of stuns/slows etc. How you use it seems to refer to the plants' ability to deal damage in an area or to multiple zombies. I thought this is interesting
What do you mean by "League". Are you talking about arena?
@@KhajaSodhuLeague of Legends likely. Comparing two completely different games with the same logic. Though to answer catmuch's question
In the tower defense genre, crowd control almost always means countering swarming as a strat by doing AoE damage or remove group sponges that defend an otherwise tanky threat.
Are you actually a@@MarioMastar ?. Also thanks for explaining it
Bro, Chomper is way better than you are giving it credit for.

1. Gold Bloom - Easy 375 sun instantly for early setup
2. Snow Pea - Chilling an entire area is really good
3. Electro Pea - Bypass multiple zombies on 3 lane
4. Grapeshot - Cracked Cherry Bomb
5. Power Lily or Imitater - Good support plant

4. Cactus - He's alright I guess?

2. Witch Hazel - Attack slow and Caulipower is better
1. Electric Blueberry - Attack slow and Caulipower is better

Electric bluberry is underrated
Electric blueberry is good what r u on
I can't quite remember if this is an allowed move, but if Escape Root can move endangered plants, then that's a good niche use for him. Putting endangered plants where you actually want them to be instead of where they were placed originally. I'm unsure if you can actually use it in this way though, I don't have the plant.
Yes i do this all the time and it totally works like a charm
In fact, escape root can be an infinite staller. Basically an infini nut but.. always infini. So how you do this, when the zombie is close and the escape root turns into a insta kill plant move it and there you have it. I never tried this but i heard it. So feel free to try.
Jack o lantern is my favorite premium plant
Same
1:49 no wizard is actually great priority he stays at the back and is more annoying then octo zombie when you plant is turned to sheep good luck getting it back
8:13 the thing is, is that actually a bad thing?
XD
@MarioMastar so I'm not the only one who remembers that. Also aloe, electric current ghost paper were also obtainable from events like this
Theres one advantage about escape root, it can be a invincible plant if you do the glitch correctly.
There is actually a glitch with escape root where its invincible - not sure how to do it tho
Someone made a point about Guacadile(Think it was Creeps), saying that it's basically 100-sun-cost, fast-charging insta-kill plant. I think that concept could be applied to Chomper. What are your thoughts on this?
exactly! chomper is a quickly recharging insta, not a damaging plant
Escape root can be invincible if you move it to a empty tile when exploding.
tysm bro i didnt know which plants i should buy cuz if i wanted to buy all of them it would be $105 and i couldnt figure out by myself
which ones would be best to buy
Mostly based takes plants like witch hazel and electric blueberry tend to be over hyped with their insane recharge time but there’s a tipping point for them where you eventually have so many that it’s impossible to lose. I like to pair them with another plant with big aoe and really let them go to town.
Exactlyy

can I rant about how cool snap pea is:
-175 sun
-has lane-wide range
-shoots peas at mechs and gargs
-shoots a single high damage projectile after swallowing
-plant food ability is pretty cool
-good secondary attacker
Shoots 3 peas at a slow rate against mechs and gargs. It's actually countered by them the same way Toadstool is because it doesn't do anything threatening to them at all. Chomper does a lot of damage per chomp to them and it's plant food can push them back, while the other two would be wasted on a garg. so even though it seems like a jack of all trades plant, It does have a weakness that really matters. I really like it though.

You gotta give toadstool some credit for looking cute

I understand why they didn’t make it on the list, but I’m making an Honorable mention for my Zoop-Zoops! They Zoop zombies into ashes, and are a lot of fun to use with lighting-focused builds.
If they don't buff Toadstool, they should at least make it a gemium
Grapeshot actually can kill a gargantuar in one hit if you place it directly on top so the grapes can bounce to hit it multiple times.
I like using Grape in conjunction with Cherry bomb to have 2 insta explosions effectively cutting recharge in half. Great for destroying Z-mech or Coach Z quickly.

As a person who has hacked the game before. This video gives alot information about premium plants and to not be like me and hack the game. Buy a good premium plant or just dont buy
Or just hack the game
Regarding Goldbloom, I decided to boot up my old account in PopCap's PvZ2 and I apparently have the plant despite never owning it before. So it's very likely that they gave it away to old players at some point, or it's just completely free to anyone now.
It was free but that was many years ago
I think CauliPower deservers one spot on the best plants, It is great in single-player and arena when paired with imitator, it basically one-shots any zombie and turns it to your side (allowing great crowd control if you have at least five of them) and it is very fun to use and create an army with it.
Thoughts on Caulipower?
Fact: Escape Root is so much useful as an explosive support plant, but even with that use it´s pretty bad
Cool ranking! I have some disagreements though:
1:Snow Pea should still be in the worst list.
Snow pea is defo better than winter melon
1:29 - Crowd Control, although the name would seem to imply it, doesn't have anything to do with crowds, but rather is a term (in video games) used to describe a stun or a slow or another effect that hinders one or more enemies, rather than AoE which I think was the word you were looking for. Cheers!
Okay now I know what the other person was talking about
In Tower defense, the purpose of crowd control is to do exactly what he's trying to get at.
For example, Iceberg Lettuce is a Crowd Control plant, while Melon Pult is an AOE plant!

unless it got patched and i wasnt aware, if you plant grapeshot inside of a gargantuar it can actually one shot it due to the way the grapes bounce

Escape root is op af you can actually create an immortal escape root glitch and no zombie can destroy it except zombot tuskmaster.
I brought the pea pack so I don’t have to wait and I’m getting my fav plant variant as it’s a pea shooter
chomper is always a weird plant because the strategy behind it is so odd having two good uses.
I'm pretty sure the main reason chopper and frost pea are behind pay wall is because they were the most fun in pvz1
At least Chomper was buffed to eat 3 zombies now before chewing and only costs a dollar, as Snap pea literally out classed it in every possible way.
you have a wonderful way of making your audience feel involved!
gold bloom is good for players who has not many upgraded plants (or in the earlier versions of the game) but when most sun producers get in a higher level, its practically useless
It was free if you beat the gold bloom challenge though so many people got it for free.
and YOU KNOW THE WORST THING ABOUT HIM?
HE DOESN'T EVEN ADD SUN WITH HIGHER LEVELS
Wher holly barrier
Its literally a whole map endurian with BORKEN PLANT FOOD

Imitator could be used to break the game using favorite plants feature, so he is really felt like cheating
Another reason to put Witch Hazel low, is that it is litterally just a worse version of Missile Toe
I didn’t even noticed this video came out a hour ago but since I own most of these plants due to the Black Friday discount I agree with the ranking
Imo it was kinda confusing how you go
5 worst, 5 best, 4 worst, 4 best etc etc, other than that, great video! I agree with practically everything you said
So let me recap real quick gold Bloom is a some producer that gives you 375 sun but if you decide to use imitator you get 750 sun. That's 10 sunshrooms and a winter melon! A winter melon!
and some stages that start you with plant food will give you even more.
@@MarioMastarso if we buy going blue before the plant and food tutorial well before day three gold bloom and imitator that 750 sun will turn into 2,250.
now think how good of a combo cold snapdragon, iceshroom, and iceweed would be
despite my personal bias, I will admit after watching this video I've realized that toadstool and chomper are kinda trash, but they're both some of my favorite plants regardless.
Y’know, I kinda feel like putting escape root on the worst spot is kinda criminal because there is a glitch where he will become invincible, but at the same time there is also a glitch that’s makes him useless soo
Glitches are not the intended use
So that would be raking the power of the glitch and not the plant
I know everyone will hate me but here me out, I use chomper to take down normal, conehead, and Bucketheads so it's basically a first few zombies thing and then you can get your shovel and it's better than toadstool and can at least eat wizards or squids
I’ve never understood why frozen pea was ever considered a bad plant, with the waves this game like to throw at you, being able to slow them down and still do decent damage should’ve been a smash hit but idk
I was one of the lucky ones who did that weird quest and got golden bloom for free! 5 whole dollars saved lmao

While I do agree with Heath Seeker, Grapes hot is definitely NOT powercrept by Bombegranate. I'd argue Grapeshot is better against Gargantaurs.
