    I remember so vividly walking into the mall arcade and seeing this cabinet. Just seeing Raiden on the side, and hearing the announcer and all the sound effects. I knew it was awesome before I ever seen the game being played. One of favorites of all time.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  5 лет назад +8

      Yeah it was SOMETHING ELSE. I remember it was always packed and was in the back of the arcade... once I went over a few feet to where the original Mortal Kombat was, and played it a little bit while everybody else was playing MK2. All the games were horror themed, in the dark arcade it was actually pretty damn scary playing them with the sound pumped up!

    I remember when this game out they had just built a huge indoor amusement park/ arcade around me. They brought in no less than 20 cabinets of MK2. Everyone was packed around and all you can hear was MK2 because the sounds were cranked to Max.

    Im currently making a mk 1 custom arcade machine, i picked up a used cabinet that had been running tekken on it but the monitor had blown, it wasn't originally a tekken cabinet either, if you see my slideshow video you'll probably be surprised it was turned into a tekken machine with the upright monitor, anyway it has a pal European dreamcast and American ps2 inside, i got the American ps2 so i can play the special edition mk1 and ultimate mk3 that came with mk deception & Armageddon that was only released in the US. I also have midway arcade treasures and mk trilogy (ps1) and to finish it off mk4 gold on dreamcast. Many will wonder why i didnt go with a mame pc, well this was just easier for me as i already the games and consoles plus i do have plenty of emulation discs for the dc so it made sense i think.

    So I had a Defender Arcade cabinet which was converted to MKI. Honestly it was awesome. Then I converted that to MKII, just a couple of re-pins etc.
    I ALSO added a 16" woofer inside the guts of the cabinet. It was BRUTAL. I have NO idea how that sound board was able to drive that thing, I didn't use ANY amplifier of any kind, I literally just wired it up to the sound board. Think of how bassy the game is with the stock speakers and then think about it in an old rickety Defender Arcade cabinet with nothing but woofer inside!. That thing shook like a BOSS. I had it in my basement and it was a pretty decent hit at my house parties.
    If I turned that thing up, this old school woofer just shook the downstairs of my house from the basement. I could only crank it up when everyone was gone.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  7 лет назад +1

      Those little amps in those Midway games are pretty beefy, I've burned one or two up but usually they hold up really well. If you had the woofer in the bottom it basically probably made the whole box resonate... pretty cool!

    • @Christdeliverme
      @Christdeliverme 7 лет назад

      I gave it a shot and man it drove that Sub hard. I furthermore cannot believe there was such low-low's. The sampling must have been very good. It was much too much though it was punishing to play with that speaker turned up!

    While I'll probably never own one of these awesome machines due to their price... I do have a MAME setup with CRT/scanline screen effects which is the next best thing... I feel like I'm stealing from someone every time I "insert coin." lol
    The Arcade1Up machines are cool... But a bit too pixelated for my liking. And forget about that Arcade Kollection from 2011. That was terrible and while it looked somewhat okay, the AI was different.
    Nothing will ever compare to the hype of MK2's release... it was everywhere. Every videogame magazine covered it. Pure excitement! Really miss that era sometimes.

I'm from Italy and I'm really fond of old arcade games, even though I gotta recognize the price is actually high and if the object comes from the US there are huge import duties to pay as well!! Anyway, I've really appreciated this video and I hope you're doing fine and staying safe during these quite hard times!!! Peace 😁😊

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 года назад +1

      Sure you need to go into the test menu, open the door and you'll see a switch behind the door inside the machine that if you move it to one side or the other it goes into the test mode.
      You can change a bunch of stuff in there, if you look around you'll find the setting to turn the blood on or off. You can also turn off or on Johnny Cage's low blow. If it says something about you need to change the dipswitches then there is a set of small switches on the actual game pcb that need to be set up. If you get a copy of the manual online it tells how to do all this stuff.

    I have the "cardboard" one, lol which is the Arcade1up MKII Deluxe model released last spring. It's just slimmer than a real cabinet and has a 17" LCD instead of a 25" or so CRT monitor and has cheaper buttons and sticks and the games are emulated, there are 14 Midway/Williams/Atari games. Paperboy was a a 1985 Atari game. Midway/Williams bought the arcade division of Atari called Atari Games around 1988. Midway went belly up by 2000 and some employees formed Raw Thrills in 2001 including Eugene Jarvis creator of the Cruis'n games. I didn't build the MKII yet. They could make a bigger XL version in the future with a 19" BOE monitor and Happ now SuzoHapp buttons and sticks like the KI Pro they did, I have that and didn't build it either. It cost me over a grand from Arcade1up direct, and the MKII $499.99 plus tax from Best Buy shipped to me.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  5 лет назад +1

      Jesus, I doubt that will fix it, if you have all of your roms coming up red it's very unlikely that all of them just went bad all of a sudden (although possible, but it's a longshot), there's probably a chip somewhere that interfaces with all the rom chips that has went bad so the CPU can't talk to any of them. There may be a jumper setting somewhere that's been removed too, something like that. If you look there are little jumpers all over the board that are described in the back of the manual.

    The AI is a pain in the ass in this fucking game, especially when it gets to the later stages. It's nearly impossible to punch or kick them or even do an uppercut or a sweep and even your special moves don't work anymore. You have to wait for the computer to walk towards you and then jump backwards and that's where they're most vulnerable to an attack, but it sucks that you have to resort to that strategy to beat them.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 года назад +1

      Each arcade game is either 'dedicated' or a 'kit'.... the 'kit' games came in a little kit, that you installed in a cabinet you already had or bought somewhere else. So some of them were put in old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cabinets, or something that had been painted black by the operator.
      The "dedicated" game was the one that shipped from the factory in the cabinet it's in... they usually had more artwork and are generally considered more desirable because most of the ones you would have seen back in the day would be in a dedicated cabinet.
      This particular one is the Dedicated Mortal Kombat II cabinet....
