    Wonder when the ELECTRIC Zamboni will be available. I worked for the Dallas stars in 1993-1998. In 1994 I was able to order a brand new Zamboni, $50,000. The funniest part was going to the loading dock to pick it up. It was enclosed in the very back of a truck trailer behind a wood wall they made. All the guys as you could imagine in Texas had know idea what the heck it was. Nobody helped me either. I unpacked it, drove it out of the trailer and onto the the flatbed. Good times in Dallas. Back in Detroit now:)

    This channel has been such a great resource learning all of the little intricacies of keeping a rink going.
    Have you had any issues with the power board brush shedding? One of our electric machines is always. Losing 1 or 2 strings each cut. Maybe we need to adjust the angle of the board brush? This machine seems to be at more of an angle compared to our other machines.

    Here's a couple questions, whats your average build up in the re-surfacer along the augers? Is it basically packing the entire box area from the blade under the auger, along the back and over? Do you find running the wash water changes how much build up there is?
    I'm asking as we have fairly hard ice (18f/38f) and the zam still operates and fills the snow tank fine, but I'm getting random chunks of snow/ice that seem to be left behind like 1/4 the size of your fist on my 3rd+ lap. i've tried slowing down in the turn more than really necessary, this helps a bit but makes water management a pain and i still get it to happen once every other flood anyways. My next thought was maybe the auger isn't clearing enough snow in the conditioner box and it's falling out somehow? just curious if you've ever ran across this?

    • @YourLocalIceMan
      @YourLocalIceMan  3 года назад +1

      With a fresh sharp blade and cold ice it does seem the box packs up tight. Our ice is about 20-22f. Also seems to pack up more with more aggressive cuts. Like after a game or heavy practice.
      But yes it happens every so often in the corners. I think maybe it is when the machine slows down too fast and the momentum of the snow caries it forward. Then when the turn is made it shoots out. Think you got it by driving slow. Perhaps trying to slow down slower. And also like you mention, do not let snow stagnate in the conditioner and build up. Some snow should be moving

      Merrell makes boots that have whats called “Arctic Grip” I have been using them for a good while, although they are not spikes so to speak, but they are superior to any other boot Ive worn on the ice. Google them I got a great deal online for them.

    I've been following your channel since i first became a facility operator and it has helped me and gave me great tips for operating the zamboni.Today I had trouble with the automatic plunger,seems to be sticking and not functioning properly,plugged up on me today and had to use our old one with a manual plunger and she worked perfectly lol,just wondering if youve experienced something like that?I would love that poster to hang up in our zamboni room up here in Moose Jaw,Saskatchewn,Canada.Stay safe and take care

      Never experienced that. Perhaps look at the switches next to each auger lever. Remove the plate next to right knee wheel driving. Both switchers need to be engaged for the system to work. Does it work when the override button is pressed?

    Question about dealing with Clogs or Jams. When the conditioner gets really wet snow and builds up and eventually you have to turn off your water and lift up the conditioner and go back to the garage to wash out your augers. Seems to happen a lot to us lately on one machine more than the other. Any advice on how to prevent this? We do have a manual ice breaker, even when used a lot the ice still builds up where the horizontal and vertical augers meet and eventually can't take any more. It happens when we are driving slow with a lot of water. I've tried not using wash water and it still happens. What can we do to change this? Thanks for your help.

    • @YourLocalIceMan
      @YourLocalIceMan  3 года назад +1

      A few things. I would make sure you keep moving some snow into the tank. Don't let it stagnate down there. Perhaps you are overlapping too much and scaping up wet snow. Check the wash water impeller for wear. It is usually the first thing I notice when I forget to turn the wash water pump on. The wet shavings. You could also look at if your ice is too warm. I have notice that will do it.

    • @peterlagrange2831
      @peterlagrange2831 3 года назад

      @@YourLocalIceMan I appreciate the quick informative response. I've eliminated the wash water pump from the problem. I think you could be onto something with the overlap. it seems to happen when we are going slower and are overlapping on pretty wet ice. I'm also curious what you think about ice temps. One of our rinks runs warmer than the other and is about 25-28 degrees depending on the time of day. the colder rink sits at 24-25 degrees. I've also noticed our snow when i edge lately seems chunkier and wetter than normal. not like the fine powder that usually accumulates. I also should mention that we use cold (Real Ice) water when ice making. Do you think i should turn the chiller temps down? we usually run between 18-22 depending on use and overnight/time of day. Thanks again for the help. Myself and all of our staff have learned so much from your vidoes.

    • @YourLocalIceMan
      @YourLocalIceMan  3 года назад

      You could try to lower a degree or two and see how it reacts. What you discribe sounds like warm ice.
      Have you ever used hot water? Real Ice contacted out rink. It's super expensive. Even with all the rebates. You like it?

    • @peterlagrange2831
      @peterlagrange2831 3 года назад

      @@YourLocalIceMan I think you're right. i lowered the chiller 1 degree, the ice seems better but I still have clogs (mostly when driving slow with heavy flood water) so maybe it's just picking up that water and causing the jam in the horizontal auger.
      We used to use hot water but the city bought into this Real Ice system. It works fine, i think you sacrifice some ice clarity with it but it does save a lot of energy consumption.

    Love your videos, I'm a rookie driver. How open are the handles when doing a normal cut between hockey practices? We get between 8-10min to get the cut done. Thanks, I'll take the koozie if available.

    • @YourLocalIceMan
      @YourLocalIceMan  3 года назад

      Thank you! The wash water is fully open. The ice making valve varies. In general, wide open on the straights and across the middle of the ice. Tapering it off for the corners and off for the turn. We get 15 minutes. Which is more like 12 after getting everyone off the ice. Hard to image 10 minutes cuts. Brutal.
