Jorah has destroyed himself after women he could never have. He became a slave from once being a Lord. It is such a tragic story. I wish he gets a bit of a happy ending.
Jorah committed immoral act after immoral act in the name of Lust, he's not stupid he knows that this woman never loved him but would need to be entertained as a result. He could have bankrupted his own house, he had responsibilities as a leader and man, yet he left them all in pursuit of the favour of a young entitled little girl. He should have died that day Ned Stark arrived on Bear Isle but he ran, then he was willing to kill another teenage girl to add to the list of disgusting things he's done. But, only his lust saved her. He has no honour, and there is no redemption for this man but if he cares about Dany he will stop trying to fuck her and maybe just maybe he will sacrifice himself for something worth dying for before the mere uttering of his name leaves a foul taste in the mouth.
How the narrator's voice drowned in the end of the speech. I failed to hold back tears. "I did things that shames me to speak of. For gold. So Lynnesse might keep her jewels, her cook, her Harper "...this part had me.
The mention about Fishwives and Crofters daughters is important. Jorah has been used by women, but he has also been a user of women. His transactional view of relationships (in the books) is being called out. Show Jorah is a beautiful disaster, but Book Jorah is a cautionary tale of unchecked desire.
Seriously though its sad to see how desperately Jorah Clinged to Lynesse as more than just a beautiful woman but the literal pinnacle of his life that he earnestly believed only happened because of her.
Mate you should make the Aegon speech. When he talks to jon about the weight of choices and the importance of an oath. Fuck me sideways that bit is so good
It's only when you start reading about the she-bears, that you feel the full brunt of the Lord Commander's disappointment. All his children save for one are true Northmen. He should have bequeath Longclaw to any of the she-bears but I guess giving it to the Stark's bastard on your death is good enough. Anyone but Jorah.
Keep in mind that no matter how desperate Jorah grew, he never sold Longclaw. Tywin would have showered him with gold for it. He didn't take it with him when he fled from Ned Stark. He still had some honor.
@@SankyEON He was honorable enough to leave it behind. He could've sold it and gotten enough gold to live a careless life in Essos but no, he left it behind because he didn't want to disappoint his family any further.
@@fractalfan I didn't say one was more or less honorable than the other, all I said was that he still had some honor. He did commit terrible crimes, but didn't commit every crime he could.

He's as much to blame. He fell for a superficial woman for superficial reasons. When he knew she didn't love him he had no self respect but rather tried to please her superficially. It was a shit show from the start
There are literally hundreds of poems and stories about good men/women falling prey to bad men/women. Though to be fair, it was all done in a string of bad judgement calls and glory of the moment as Jorah recounted. Lynesse's gift of her colors to Ser Jorah was a ladylike courtesy, but, the father should have refused the marriage proposal even if he didn't notice Ser Jorah was drunk. Lynesse was high society and accustomed to money and any of its comforts while her father must have known from his own education in Oldtown that Bear Island was an isolated house in the far north. She was swept off her feet in the same way Ser Jorah was. The father should have had more prudence and at the very least waited a day or two for the glory of the moment to pass so he could ask some questions. However, Ser Jorah was a war hero and had just won a glorious tourney, and remote house or not he was one of the more major northern lords and Lynesse's family was probably a smaller house among the smaller houses in the south with little chance 'marrying up'. The father probably thought she would enjoy her elevated status as a lord's wife and surely thought such titles have money to back it. To refuse Jorah's offer or even stall on it might have been seen as madness or certainly a grave insult from a lesser house. So his doubts were also swept away in the moment. Lastly, Lynesse we can guess, was happy in the marriage honeymoon but in the end when she got to her new home the culture shock of a wilderness living from the urban culture she was raised in was to much to process at once. In time she probably viewed the entire marriage as a trap and betrayal of her trust and innocence since she was never told about what to expect and even her father, presumably, never warned her. Since she could not easily communicate or visit her southern family or friends, run the house or have parties like she was accustomed to, or even distract herself with intelligent conversations with learned people she became bitter, jealous, wrathful. Jorah tried to appease her but such a betrayal in the mind is hard to dispel no matter what is conjured up to distract it away. Hence the tragedy and the sad but great character development of GRRM.
Lynesse is the daughter of Lord Hightower, the lords of Oldtown. They are in the top 3 houses of the reach, they even have royal Targaryen blood. They are well above the Mormonts.
@@xdz1039 Then the father definitely should have known better than to let the moment carry her away. Still, perhaps he thought her life, though simple would at least be centered on love. Sad.
I think one thing the show did better was the portrayal and characters, as Jorah was more of a perv in the books and a devout man in the show, but if only they added these dialogues that would make these characters have more depth.
I think Jorah will betray Dany for Lynesse in the books. I certainly like that turn for the character. Sadly they never introduced Lynesse in the show it would have given Jorah something to do.
Governor's Run The show fucked up half of its characters in recent seasons. And even earlier there was a certain amount of writers favoritism, whitewashing some characters (jorah, renly), making them more villainous (stannis), or plain sidelining them (sansa).
Nah I think the show fucked up character portrayal, just look at Stannis for an example. They didnt include the peach speech and so many other good moments. They made him look evil.
inr 97 the way they introduced jorah was fine in the show but the way they utlized him after was horrible. Heck, we were never given a definite reason why jorah was obsessed with dany and this speech would have fleshed that aspect of jorah out.
Governor's Run I disagree. Joreh doesn't love Dany imo. He loves the idea of her, she's looks like lynesse and that's why he's protective of her. But the moment he gets a shot with lynesse (which he will) he will ultimately betray Dany (one for love...)
LagiNaLangAko23 smart enough? Not sure about that mate. Joseph was literally a slave. She could have brought any charge against him and they'd have thrown him in prison cause no one cares what a slave thinks. It was pure power dynamic.
Because those babies are priceless. The Lannisters lost theirs years ago. Brightroar, I think it was called. They've been trying to buy other lesser houses' swords for extortionate amounts, alas to no avail. Methinks they're saving them for something, something....important......
@LagiNaLangAko23 yep, Viserys the first was married to the daughter of his hand Ser Otto Hightower and another princess of House Targaryen also married a member of House Hightower and had 6 daughters with him
