Love this one just as much as the first. I appreciated the sort of RPG elements with the companions. Like you said, it added to the replay value. And Gogandantess is the best genma in the whole series. Such a bro. I bought Onimusha Smash Bro- er, Blade Warriors mostly just to play as him.

It's good to see that Capcom remastered Onimusha: Warlords, but it's sad to see they didn't do the same for its three sequels. Perhaps some day, because Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a wonderful game!

Also, I am very hopeful that Capcom will release this and the subsequent games on modern platforms like they did with the first game

The leak showing that Capcom was working on an Onimusha remaster has me incredibly hyped for a series of games I've never played. That said, I do think the next series you should cover should be Devil May Cry, the first one is a horror game basically.
Jared. As a person that played through the entire game with OPL + HDD, the only time I had any sign of slow down was during massive fights with alot of particles. The example you provided in your video never actually occurred, so it has to be OPL version or hard drive related and I couldn't replicate your issue.
Onimusha 2 has been my second favorite game since i first played it (it was my first favorite till halo 3 came out). Glad you enjoyed it, surprised you didnt like the gifting system. I think you understanding the system too well may have hurt how the system actually works. My first play through, back when it released, i didnt really get how the gifts worked. So i just played the game, gave people stuff cause i thought they would like it and beat the game. my mind was blown when magoichi arrived in the second to last boss fight, and literally one shot the boss for me. I replayed the game immediately, not meaning to do things differently but i did. ended up being homies with ninja boy instead. It was mind blowing at the time. Like i got to play a silly action b movie, then i got to play the "what if" version.
My introduction to the franchise. Played it on a whim(purchased someone's PS2 & they forgot this game disk inside the system). Been loving/ enjoying it ever since.

You good sir covered what I wanted to hear from the game that I played since I was a little kid when internet gaming wasn't even a thing. Subbed for sure and looking foward to future coverage of your retrospective of games!
My favorite title in the series, even after playing 1 and 3, i think its because it was fixed in the samurai era and the enemies gave me a resident evil vibe, the more recent ones like that fat merchant Duke of Bioshock bosses to be more precise, anyway im getting of track here, my favorit thing about this game is the random friendly encounters and the cut scenes where something to look for, kind like the resident evil 2 the 1998 one ;)
I actually finished this game before finishing the 1st even tho I got the first back when the ps2 first came out. I remember playing through the second one when I was in like 4th or 5th grade. I picked up the fourth one, skipping past the 3rd, in like 2005 and loved seeing all the weapons that were throwbacks to weapons from the first and second. After finally playing the third years later and seeing weapons like the Gokumanii being so important really makes me appreciate the inclusion of them in the fourth game.
I love Onimusha 2. The "Samurai dating" system has always been fun for me and Gogandantess is easily the most memorable villain in the series. Definitely cheesy and kind of goofy but so quotable in a Resident Evil 1 kind of way. I don't like Jubei as much as a character as Samanosuke but he's memorable enough and I like the journey that he goes through in this game. I also love the replay value in this game. I've played it probably a dozen times since it was released and I still haven't seen everything in the game according to the story map unlocked at the end of the game.
Been gleefully going through Warlords HD and Demon Siege on my little laptop. My number 1 comfort media is these games. We need need need this one to be released again
Great review, and I feel the same way; couldn't get into it when I was younger (loved the first game), but now everything just clicks for me. Here's hoping for a remaster
I felt the same way about samurais destiny when I first started playing it, but after progressing it was a very good entry in the series. All three of The original releases. Even blade warriors I really got into trying to unlock everything.
I played it several times and I could never really guess what to give to each character. I couldn't even find a walk-through to get and idea jaja. I still love that game!
There's an easy way to do the counter moves in this game. Just keep hitting the block button over and over and hit attack when the enemy attacks. Works every time.
Oddly enough Samurai's Destiny was my favorite one in addition to the first installment. Playing with Kotaro was reminiscent of playing with Kaede and the counterstrikes were easier to pull off. Plus the input commanded combos for each weapon really made stringing attack combinations exciting.
It's so sad that Capcom dropped doing the remaster on the first one, I know people love the third one, but man is this one great, I friggin love it it's my fav one!
Just wanna give a heads up, but the screen transition jitters were an OPL issue, and according to the compatibility list have been fixed with the most recent updates.
I love this trilogy. I even love the GBA game, which is actually a pretty sweet tactical rpg, with a decent story. 3 is my fav, but 1 & 2 are about equal for me. Awesome retrospective!
That jitter and slowdown when the game changes background scenery: it's because the game loads too fast from the HDD. Try using Modes 1 and 2 in Game Settings in OPL
From all the series that's my favourite one. Still remember when we bought ps2 back in late 2002 with Onimusha 2, silent hill 2, Max Payne and Dropship(its somewhat of a Ace combat clone). One of the best times in my life.

I do understand the quip about BTS and Girls' Generation but in 2022 we stan Jiafei (even though she's not even a real person)
Onimusha 2 is just Onimusha 1 but more. Perfect review.
This game is still enjoyable and repayable even till this day
I felt the same way about samurais destiny when I first started playing it, but after progressing it was a very good entry in the series. All three of The original releases. Even blade warriors I really got into trying to unlock everything.
I played it several times and I could never really guess what to give to each character. I couldn't even find a walk-through to get and idea jaja. I still love that game!
Yooo the king is back with another banger
There's an easy way to do the counter moves in this game. Just keep hitting the block button over and over and hit attack when the enemy attacks. Works every time.
Best one in the series, reeeeeeally hope it will get a remaster❤
Onimusha 2 is one of my favorite games from my childhood. One of the first ps2 games i ever played.
From all the series that's my favourite one.
Still remember when we bought ps2 back in late 2002 with Onimusha 2, silent hill 2, Max Payne and Dropship(its somewhat of a Ace combat clone). One of the best times in my life.
The PS2 had pressure sensitive buttons?
I loved this game, but plot-wise, I felt like the "evil golden statue" thing was a bit random. Including the elephant noise lol.
I loved this game. Giving different npcs gifts and playing as them for a bit. All the different weapons. This game had so much replayability.
