The leak showing that Capcom was working on an Onimusha remaster has me incredibly hyped for a series of games I've never played. That said, I do think the next series you should cover should be Devil May Cry, the first one is a horror game basically.
It's good to see that Capcom remastered Onimusha: Warlords, but it's sad to see they didn't do the same for its three sequels. Perhaps some day, because Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a wonderful game!
This was the first Onimusha game I ever played and my introduction to the series. It holds a special place in my heart, so glad to see a retrospective on it!
@@AvalancheReviews Just picked up Onimusha: Warlords on steam recently & seeing how it all started is quite interesting. I was hoping the anime they just released would drum up interest in the series again, but I just finished it and it's quite a mixed bag.

My introduction to the franchise. Played it on a whim(purchased someone's PS2 & they forgot this game disk inside the system). Been loving/ enjoying it ever since.
I love Onimusha 2. The "Samurai dating" system has always been fun for me and Gogandantess is easily the most memorable villain in the series. Definitely cheesy and kind of goofy but so quotable in a Resident Evil 1 kind of way. I don't like Jubei as much as a character as Samanosuke but he's memorable enough and I like the journey that he goes through in this game. I also love the replay value in this game. I've played it probably a dozen times since it was released and I still haven't seen everything in the game according to the story map unlocked at the end of the game.
I felt the same way about samurais destiny when I first started playing it, but after progressing it was a very good entry in the series. All three of The original releases. Even blade warriors I really got into trying to unlock everything.
I actually finished this game before finishing the 1st even tho I got the first back when the ps2 first came out. I remember playing through the second one when I was in like 4th or 5th grade. I picked up the fourth one, skipping past the 3rd, in like 2005 and loved seeing all the weapons that were throwbacks to weapons from the first and second. After finally playing the third years later and seeing weapons like the Gokumanii being so important really makes me appreciate the inclusion of them in the fourth game.
Been gleefully going through Warlords HD and Demon Siege on my little laptop. My number 1 comfort media is these games. We need need need this one to be released again
I played it several times and I could never really guess what to give to each character. I couldn't even find a walk-through to get and idea jaja. I still love that game!
Fun fact about the game's intro video: the song that plays, "Russian Roulette" is performed by Tomoyasu Hotei, the same musician who created the iconic "Battles without honor or humanity" from the Kill Bill series. If this game ever got an HD port, I would hope they would keep the song, it's a so damn catchy. As for the game itself, I quite liked it, even if some elements weren't quite the same as the original. The companions were pretty entertaining, though I never got to play the game enough to witness every story path with them, but I remember getting at least most of them to be friends. That cutscene for the final boss was rather hilarious, with the voices saying "You. Will. DIE!" and then the statue trumpets like an elephant.
I think your summary is defintley enough. More ideas with this one, not all great, but definitely enough to keep it fresh. 1 will always be my favorite, but I appreciate what this one brought to the table!
From all the series that's my favourite one. Still remember when we bought ps2 back in late 2002 with Onimusha 2, silent hill 2, Max Payne and Dropship(its somewhat of a Ace combat clone). One of the best times in my life.
Great review, and I feel the same way; couldn't get into it when I was younger (loved the first game), but now everything just clicks for me. Here's hoping for a remaster
You good sir covered what I wanted to hear from the game that I played since I was a little kid when internet gaming wasn't even a thing. Subbed for sure and looking foward to future coverage of your retrospective of games!
It's so sad that Capcom dropped doing the remaster on the first one, I know people love the third one, but man is this one great, I friggin love it it's my fav one!
I love this trilogy. I even love the GBA game, which is actually a pretty sweet tactical rpg, with a decent story. 3 is my fav, but 1 & 2 are about equal for me. Awesome retrospective!
I was so in the pocket for Onimusha 2 at the time. A friend and I were super into Ninja Scroll and the like so this fit in nicely especially with the main character also being Jubei Yagyu. If Capcom ever returns to the series I would really like them to lean into the weird gift giving system, I think it's very unique!
remember being blown away back then on the ps2 when i was able to explore the small village and interact with the group this game is still foggy to my since i haven’t played it since but i hope to play this game again soon.
2 was the best. People want camaraderie, options, entertaining voice acting, and good writing. Top 3 PS2 games. Probably beats any first generation Xbox for me too.
Damn nothing makes me happier then seeing a new avalanche video. Awesome video as always bro I always thought onimusha was gonna be forgotten I loved them all except obviously the one I shall not mention lol
This was a cool side story and had lots of playing it and found it rather comedic with some cut scenes . My favorite part was when that Gamador boss ( Yeah I don’t remember his name) is introduced he talk/sings to you and Jubei’s response is “What’s wrong with you ? Who talks like that? “ 🤣 . I hope Demon Siege will be on it’s way soon and I’ll have Dominos on speed dial when you go over Dawn of Dreams which is my favorite one of the series 👍
Onimusha 2 has been my second favorite game since i first played it (it was my first favorite till halo 3 came out). Glad you enjoyed it, surprised you didnt like the gifting system. I think you understanding the system too well may have hurt how the system actually works. My first play through, back when it released, i didnt really get how the gifts worked. So i just played the game, gave people stuff cause i thought they would like it and beat the game. my mind was blown when magoichi arrived in the second to last boss fight, and literally one shot the boss for me. I replayed the game immediately, not meaning to do things differently but i did. ended up being homies with ninja boy instead. It was mind blowing at the time. Like i got to play a silly action b movie, then i got to play the "what if" version.
Can't wait for part 3, that Onimusha was close to my heart as I always played it back in ps2 heyday, I called my player Ichigo [bleach] back then for no apparent reason
There's an easy way to do the counter moves in this game. Just keep hitting the block button over and over and hit attack when the enemy attacks. Works every time.
Honestly Onimusha 2 may actually be my favorite game in the series, though I am still undecided on that fact since the third game offers some strong competition against it. I absolutely loved the gifting mechanic being a JRPG fan and all as it encouraged me to run around town and talk to people, that familiarity really jived well with me. I also liked the fact that every single weapon had secret techniques you could acquire throughout the game which could be used to extent your combo and get you out of tight spots, to this day it is the only game in the series to have these features as they were dropped in Onimusha 3. Sure Dawn Of Dreams sorta replaced the secret techniques but they were handled very differently in that game. I really like how Jubei plays off with all the other characters and how he's a serious samurai who is surrounded by all kinds of quirky characters and I think that brings the best out of his character, he's a no nonsense badass throughout and the game kinda makes fun of that which I really appreciate as we have seen countless samurai games starring this archetype but you never get to see them in situations like the ones Jubei gets himself into and that's what gives this game so much flavor.
I think you hit the nail on the head there. So few games try for a protagonist who is aggressively self-serious and humourless to a fault then surround them with absurd bullshit, or at least few pull it off like Onimusha 2. The cast includes a hedonist, a nihilist, a misogynist and a traitor who all play off Jubei well.
Glad I got to watch this after work. Great video and some day I do hope a remaster of 2 will happen so you can cover the port. Bit of a correction Genma Onimusha had Green souls not purple which works slightly differently as it doesn't give you an oni form but temporary invincibility with healing. Purple soul give you an Onimusha with increased attack power and ranged magic but no healing factor. Also with issens on the rolling demon lizards they were possible exactly the same way since Warlords it's just that 2 as well as 3 made issens easier (3 also having chain issens) which is also particularly why they're easier to do with bosses in 2 as they were possible in Warlords/Genma but were more difficult. Anyway really enjoyed the video and I look forward to you talking about Tacics and Blade Warriors/Buraiden.
Yeah I've been hearing that you could issen those guys in 1, but the timing was just super tight. Ha! Me mixing up purple and green souls..... I don't know why I just assumed they were the same color.
@@AvalancheReviews yeah that is true. Also no worries since Genma did come out shortly before 2 I personally believe the green soul mechanics were used to test out how the purple souls would work in 2.

That cutscene for the final boss was rather hilarious, with the voices saying "You. Will. DIE!" and then the statue trumpets like an elephant.
your comentary is just amazing dude, holy hell why youtube didnt reccomend me this channel earlier! xD
I think your summary is defintley enough. More ideas with this one, not all great, but definitely enough to keep it fresh. 1 will always be my favorite, but I appreciate what this one brought to the table!
Oh man thank you my favorite and I’m not sure I’ve ever had as much fun in a game as I have with the counters here. Salud dude
0:36 lol. I really thought this was a flying thomas the train engine edit.
I've beaten this game multiple times throughout the years. It really brings me great joy when I play it.
Your video series are the best. It's great to see someone cover the Onimusha games.
You good sir covered what I wanted to hear from the game that I played since I was a little kid when internet gaming wasn't even a thing. Subbed for sure and looking foward to future coverage of your retrospective of games!
Glad to hear it man! Here's hoping the rest of my videos are just as good.
I loved this game. Giving different npcs gifts and playing as them for a bit. All the different weapons. This game had so much replayability.
It's so sad that Capcom dropped doing the remaster on the first one, I know people love the third one, but man is this one great, I friggin love it it's my fav one!
I think I gave magoichi enough gifts because in a cut scene he told me his origin story
I'll never understand people complaining that video games are too much of a video game.
I did the exact same thing. I loved part one and gave part two about an hour then put it down. I didn’t come back to it until after part 3 came out.
Onimusha 2 is just Onimusha 1 but more. Perfect review.
Onimusha 2 is one of my favorite games from my childhood. One of the first ps2 games i ever played.
JUBEII!!!!! I hope you do onimusha blade warriors!!! Game was soooo fun and soooo underrated
Damn nothing makes me happier then seeing a new avalanche video. Awesome video as always bro I always thought onimusha was gonna be forgotten I loved them all except obviously the one I shall not mention lol
Pretty soon I'll be doing more than mentioning that one.........
Best games series ever all of them 🙏🏻 hoping to see it on ps4 🙏🏻
I oddly remember playing this one as a kid I rented from block buster, when that existed beyond a single city. Never beat it, on a to do list though!
Best in the franchise its criminal we didn't and most likely won't get a re release of this one
Although oni 1 was my first 2 is a masterpiece to me, and the music….. oh man the music. That main theme is top tier
Can't wait for Onimusha: Jean Reno Edition's Retrospective haha.
Can't wait for part 3, that Onimusha was close to my heart as I always played it back in ps2 heyday, I called my player Ichigo [bleach] back then for no apparent reason
This is my favorite game in the series! I used to rent it constantly!
There's an easy way to do the counter moves in this game. Just keep hitting the block button over and over and hit attack when the enemy attacks. Works every time.
Ahhh Jared I've been waiting for this one 😁👊 also bloody Gogandantes, a boss that haunted my dreams when I was younger 😭😂
Onimusha 1-3 we're good. That one with Jean Reno was pushing it tho.
That was the best part of it tho lol. It’s so crazy
I love this game. Actually just picked up onimusha 1 & 2.
I love that you have gogandantess the greatest swordsman of all demons as your thumbnail.
Who else could I possibly put there?? He's the greatest swordsman of all demons!!!!
