I vaguely remember that melee combat also has more ritualistic value and is therefore more effective in fighting daemons. Great video as always. Your voice is great to listen to and really helps me form an image in the great self-created stories you tell. They're the biggest highlight in your videos and really catch the essence of the subject. Keep up the great work!

It’s a shame that the Death Company Intercessors are sorely lacking melee wargear. At least they are a troops choice. Also I’d love to see Astorath &/or Dante get a new model primaris or not.

The Assault Marines are awesome at what they do I however prefer Space Marine Tanks such as the Predator Annihilator, razor backs and the Land Raider. Keep up the Good Work Baldermort :) I watch every episode !
I agree with Baldermort. The overwhelming armored assault have been the Iron 10ths core tactic since very early in the Great Crusade. The Flesh is weak, so bring a Big Metal Tank!
Out of the literal thousands of Chapters in modern 40k? Probably at least a few dozen. Including a few that are probably descended from Traitor stock. The Salamanders also have a preference for heavy armored assaults.
@@Brutalyte616 Salamanders are great at that, especially against hordes of enemies. Imagine driving a Land Raider Redeemer loaded with Assault Centurions towards a mob of Orks. Most of the Orks will instantly be incinerated by the Redeemer's Flamestorm Cannons and Centurion Flamers, or gunned down with Hurricane Bolters and the Twin Assault Cannon. The few Orks who survive long enough to reach close combat will barely make a dent in the hulking Centurions, and subsequently get punched to death with Siege Drills. Yes, I have fond memories of this exact scenario happening on the tabletop.

You sum up the tragedy of being an Astartes who's entire being is focused towards warfare. The Salamanders craft exquisite weapons and armour, the Blood Angels paint to temper their fury while the Ultramarines study texts and procedures, but it's all in service of making them better warriors. For all their power, genius and potential longevity, they'll never be more than living weapons and I think it's sad that, for the most, they're at peace with that fate. So many deliciously macabre layers to digest.

We've heard about all of this marvellous technology but what of the things who make it? Do they not deserve some credit? Should we celebrate them? Or are they the enemy from within..?
I remember that my one of my early thoughts when approaching the space marines in depht for the first time was "why haven't all of them rebelled yet?" these warriors had their lives stripped of all joy and self-expression, in servitude of a bunch of lowly humans who wasted their lives away with no purpose. That is why I homebrew my own chapter, the Ivory Titans, pearly white marines that imitate humans in all things, working jobs, building houses and forming "families". All of this though, was just a mere mockery, devoid of all feelings and performed just like any other military drill.
My fav example of the assault squad is an extract from I think the 2nd edition Angels of Death codex with a Blood Angels assault squad ripping turncoats to shreds
"Oi da 'umis fallin' 'ut of da sky. Call in da Storm Boyz ya' ruddy gitz 's time to MOSH. WAAAAAAAGGGGHHH" Urk'zokk Rockthroowaagghh shouting while throwing some massanger grotz through an old Tellyporta and listen to the storys of the old Servitor on board his Spacehulk. There needs to be a Space Marine phalanx formation. Nah, go big or go home, there needs to be a Terminator armor phalanx, for cleaning out space hulks and the like, with chainsaws on the end of huge pikes and overlapping shields.
Glorious combat the thrill of every thrust parry and strike the revelry of it I can see why some chapters in the lore have a love for it great stuff, yet again mr b every video you do comes on leaps and bounds, I've started the habit of watching everything in one sitting when I paint my own stuff at the weekends great great stuff look forward to more
I agree completely Lord Bald One. To me there is nothing more fun than investing more than half of your points into a suicidal jump pack deep strike with Vanguard, Assualt boys, and a Chappy and Smash Cap. And to my friends who say "don't put all your eggs I one basket bro you're going to get tabled" I say in return "If you can't handle the dice get then get off the craps table" (I then proceed to fail my charge roll and proceed to get overwatched into the next edition) oh well tis is the way of the dice.
Assualting with massive unwieldy meele weapons or advancing with utter insane walls of firepower is why I love playing chaos marines, like with orks (which I also love playing with) you either win big or loose big, but what ever happens it's never dull. That plus I love to customise and for me orks and chaos marines are just so great for doing just that, at least for me anyway.

The Assault Marines are awesome at what they do I however prefer Space Marine Tanks such as the Predator Annihilator, razor backs and the Land Raider. Keep up the Good Work Baldermort :) I watch every episode !

I agree with Baldermort. The overwhelming armored assault have been the Iron 10ths core tactic since very early in the Great Crusade. The Flesh is weak, so bring a Big Metal Tank!
Out of the literal thousands of Chapters in modern 40k? Probably at least a few dozen. Including a few that are probably descended from Traitor stock.
The Salamanders also have a preference for heavy armored assaults.
@@Brutalyte616 Salamanders are great at that, especially against hordes of enemies. Imagine driving a Land Raider Redeemer loaded with Assault Centurions towards a mob of Orks.
Most of the Orks will instantly be incinerated by the Redeemer's Flamestorm Cannons and Centurion Flamers, or gunned down with Hurricane Bolters and the Twin Assault Cannon. The few Orks who survive long enough to reach close combat will barely make a dent in the hulking Centurions, and subsequently get punched to death with Siege Drills.
Yes, I have fond memories of this exact scenario happening on the tabletop.

There is something very badass about a space marine with massive engines on his back, using a chainsword to tear enemies apart in melee.
One of my favorite Assault Marines I made I named brother Ash. He had a Catachan walker chainsaw for a cybernetic arm and a double bolt pistol.

You sum up the tragedy of being an Astartes who's entire being is focused towards warfare. The Salamanders craft exquisite weapons and armour, the Blood Angels paint to temper their fury while the Ultramarines study texts and procedures, but it's all in service of making them better warriors. For all their power, genius and potential longevity, they'll never be more than living weapons and I think it's sad that, for the most, they're at peace with that fate. So many deliciously macabre layers to digest.

Assault marine spam in dow, one of my favourite tactics. Akin to a flying mob beating the ketchup out of the xenos, heretic and traitor alike.
I remember that my one of my early thoughts when approaching the space marines in depht for the first time was "why haven't all of them rebelled yet?" these warriors had their lives stripped of all joy and self-expression, in servitude of a bunch of lowly humans who wasted their lives away with no purpose. That is why I homebrew my own chapter, the Ivory Titans, pearly white marines that imitate humans in all things, working jobs, building houses and forming "families". All of this though, was just a mere mockery, devoid of all feelings and performed just like any other military drill.
Taking advantage of transhuman dread is a useful tactic indeed

Assault squads are so cool! You only need to read a fraction of the lore to imagine them crashing into enemies. Crushing them with brutal weaponry!
There needs to be a Space Marine phalanx formation. Nah, go big or go home, there needs to be a Terminator armor phalanx, for cleaning out space hulks and the like, with chainsaws on the end of huge pikes and overlapping shields.

I agree completely Lord Bald One. To me there is nothing more fun than investing more than half of your points into a suicidal jump pack deep strike with Vanguard, Assualt boys, and a Chappy and Smash Cap. And to my friends who say "don't put all your eggs I one basket bro you're going to get tabled" I say in return "If you can't handle the dice get then get off the craps table" (I then proceed to fail my charge roll and proceed to get overwatched into the next edition) oh well tis is the way of the dice.
Lol. Sooooo true. 8th has been rough. Potentially good, but actually not? Hoping that the good things of 9th will bring them back into the game. :).
Assualting with massive unwieldy meele weapons or advancing with utter insane walls of firepower is why I love playing chaos marines, like with orks (which I also love playing with) you either win big or loose big, but what ever happens it's never dull.
That plus I love to customise and for me orks and chaos marines are just so great for doing just that, at least for me anyway.
The angriest of all marines, the greatest of all chapters - the vaunted Angry Marines!

A Space Marine is a walking tank. An Assault Marine is a tank that can fly and carries a sword.
