I just found your site and I’m so glad I did. At the old age of 72 I don’t waste my time with people that irritate me. I’ve been cruising uTube looking at tutorials about putting in garden beds. You are a delight to listen to and easy to follow your instructions. I’ll be following you forever. Thank you
Thank you Peggy that is one of the nicest comments I have ever gotten ❤. Do you do anything in the lawn at all or anything specific you would want explained? I might be able to help!
Hahaha! @peggyoreilly I’m 52, but I think we were separated at birth. I don’t waste time with irritating people either. I’m going to include to my list, incompetent, lazy, and stupid people. There are so many of them, I just don’t understand. 😮😂
There is something very rewarding about doing something like this for yourself. Sure, you could have paid someone to do that while sitting on your couch but you will appreciate it 100 times more knowing you put the time and effort into it. Well done.
Next time you do it since you said it’s your first time. I noticed when I did it that wetting the grass & using the edging tool gives a sharp clean cut edge. But I edged it slowly & rocked the edging tool from left to right slightly pushing towards the grass then I pulled the edging tool up but I didn’t completely take it out of the ground as I went down the line making my cut. And it turned out samurai sword sharp. Oh & I waited until the edge was dry before I put my dirt in. It turned out so neat looked very professional I shocked myself. lol
Yes the last owner did not do anything. It is a work in progress and won't be even close to what I want it to be this season. I give it a couple years and then it will be nice!
Thank you so much Jason. It was a fun project and the reward was well worth it. The flowers are just starting to pop through and it will look so nice once there is color! I'm glad this video has helped!
Good job. Gave me the inspiration to have a go at doing this myself. It was tough work, especially as I'd choose the hottest day of the year so far, but got it done and it has transformed what was a boring patch of lawn into something far more appealing.
Nice job TND 👍🏻 Ain’t nothing to it but to do it!! I love yard work working w dirt and Mother Earth is very rewarding imo. Could really use that Lawn cube sponsorship, that help me put few more $$ into the Allet Liberty fund jar 😉 which I’ll use your code when I do purchase it. Keep up the great work brother!
It was my first time but I felt like I knew what I was doing. I put in hours of how to videos and picked my favorite tips from all.of them. Thank you Frankie!
What I love about Flower beds is you can mow that same bed shape in your stripes. I stripe my yard the shape of my beds so much nice then up and down stripes. That Allett will really burn that bed shape in your lawn.
Ned that sounds like a lot of work but it will.be gorgeous. I got that from a few videos I watched. I basically watched a million of these videos and took my top 5 tips and just went for it!
I've done this on my property. I usually space out the work over days, even weeks. It's a LOT of work. The end result is really good though. And, usually it only needs to be done one time.
Such BRUTAL PAINSTAKING work man, good job! I just did a 30’ x 5’ bed on the side of my house and it literally took me about 6-8 hours just to rip all the grass up. Would of loved to have rented a sod cutter but my electric & cable run shallow right there along with a couple ground rods (which I hit twice). It all pays off in the end!
The pay off is definitely worth it. When I look at the Clean natural/live edge it is so satisfying. Better the. Any plastic, metal,or cement barrier in my opinion. Your lawn is gorgeous by the way!
Thank you for this comment. I will be researching this tool because I plan to do a couple more of these around my future deck in the back. Removing the sod was the hardest part! Thank you!
I just created one of these in my front yard for the first time too! Removing the sod was definitely the hardest part. I had a ton of tree roots on my bed too…
No i should have. I actually filled it with rock because I'm moving and was told it would be to much maintenance for the new owner. Im going to have another one at my new house! New house, new live edges, new lawn, new flowers! Inhad a bunch of zinnias growing in there though
Clint, any tips for the line design? I’m prepping beds on the side of the house bordered by the driveway. The whole area experiences foot traffic and I would like a larger bed house side.
I prefer the live edge too. The plastic edging is nice for a while but always needs to be reset at some point. I find it easier to just re-dig the edge with my tool.
@@TheNeighborDominator thank you my friend!! I’m on 3rd setting (3/4 inch) right now. I honestly never thought I would have my lawn this low. I cannot say thank you enough for the recommendation on the Allett, it’s been wonderful since I’ve had it.
Thanks Mike! I see you just unloaded a new video.of the house. I am going to go make some popcorn and watch that bad boy! Those knee pads are awesome. I thought I was being a wimp but I love them!
Very nice edge! I edged my garden bed and I cannot keep it maintained! How do I maintain the edge. I tried to weed wack it today and I messed it up badly. 😢
@@TheNeighborDominator I would look for a nice quality mulch … ultra fine, to lay on top of the garden soil. Typically dark black or brown … your choice. Helps to retain moisture and choke out weeds. I have not tried the zinnia mix before, but individual plants and/or shrubs depending on how much sun/shade they see. You did it the proper way with a spade edge … just maintain it now with your trimmer. Cutting beds is tough work.
To keep everything correct (through my amateur eyes) after removing the grass and creating the edge. I added back in more soil and sloped it away from the house
This is the closest I have! I have now put rocks in there and am putting in whiskey barrels. This videos shows the turnout in the beginning. I should have done an update. ruclips.net/video/zRBIYLnQDK4/видео.htmlsi=tqWCKBtCnlx1B-69
did you know that there are Great knee pads that are much easier and more practical for working on your knees up and down etc Thank you for not having music blasting thru your video
Usually, between the new surface soil, you need to lay a weed control fabric. Then the flowerbed will not be overgrown with weeds for a long time.Good job anyway

At 61, it took me 3 days just to cut the sod down 60 feet. I know how hard it is. You did an excellent job!
@theropesofrenovation9352 thank you🙏🏽🙏🏽my lord is the dang sod so heavy! Its a labor of love with this lawncare.
Looks awesome! The hose trick is money!!!
Ya I prefer it over paint. Not that paint is bad or anything I just thought it was easier.
@@TheNeighborDominator agreed!

Thanks for watching my natural edge video. I still have my diy raised bed garden video coming so make sure you're SUBSCRIBED with notifications on!
Gonna have to see your lawn in person next time I’m at my parents. Looks a lot different from when I was cutting it 6 years ago. Great job
Yes the last owner did not do anything. It is a work in progress and won't be even close to what I want it to be this season. I give it a couple years and then it will be nice!
i'm just watching this now but thank you very much.
Thank you! I actually filled it with rock and sold the house. The new place will have a live edge like this again!
FABULOUS live edge tutorial!! Looks easy enough, just need some good muscles. Thanks so much!
Thank you! It was very satisfying to make. Fun too!
You’ve inspired me to save a small fortune on concrete curbing. Great job- it looks awesome.
Thank you so much Jason. It was a fun project and the reward was well worth it. The flowers are just starting to pop through and it will look so nice once there is color! I'm glad this video has helped!
Hello, you've just motivated me 😁
@LamarsLawnCare 🤟🤟the hardest part was removing the grass. Hard work but they payoff was worth every drop of sweat!
@@TheNeighborDominatoryes indeed 👍😊
Awesome video, looks amazing
Thankyou! Its a little bit of work but the reward is so satisfying!
@@TheNeighborDominator You did a great job.

I love hearing these stories. It is definitely hard work but when its all said and done, damn does it feel good looking back on your work.

Well done. Looks great. Very inspiring 👏🏾👌🏾😎👍🏾👍🏾thanks for sharing 🙌🏾🤲🏾🙏🏾
Thank you! It was a lot of work but doable. Save a lot of money doing it yourself!
Great vid. Thanks for this.
I’ve been wanting to build a garden bed exactly like this to plant Irises around my Elm tree.
It’s such hard work.
It really is but the finished product is very satisfying. Worth the work for sure
First time? Nawww you a pro! Looks great!

You did a beautiful job! Thank you!
Thank you so much. I had fun doing it. Back was a little sore the next day (40 years young) but was worth it. Very easy surprisingly.

That is what I would do at my last house. It looks so cool!
Great tips my man! My wife and i are gonna do some bean shaped areas around our 4 trees in front. For sure gonna be using your hose technique.🔥🔥🔥

Hahahah thank you! She will love you said that!
Turned out fantastic!
Awesome video thanks gave me an idea.
Im glad i could gelp. These things are a little work but man do natural edges look nice
Great job! Thank you.
Good job. Working on mine as well!
They can be a pain but they look amazing
Good Job!
Great job! That looks awesome! Gotta love a clean looking live edge.
Thanks Master K. Is it a live edge or natural edge? I don't know what to call it!
Looks good Clint. Great job.
Thanks Nate! It was work worth sweating for. The flowers are going to make it look really nice!
Great video
Thank you Ryan. It is by far my favorite part of my lawn
Yea same here.. I either have a guitar in my hand or a shovel doing something in the yard... keep those videos coming bro
Not bad for the first time good job 👏🏾
🙏🏻🙏🏻thank you! It was alot of fun, back breaking with the sod removal but well worth it!
Looks great Clint! Keep up the good work man. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks bro! I'm excited to get into the lawn. All these projects and I haven't even put down fert yet!
Awesome work!!
Looking forward to seeing it in 3 months🎉 some find it easier to roll the sod. Cut in long strips and roll up.
Looks great Clint! Very clean live edge!
Thanks Vinnie! I asked the boss if I could do this all the way around the perimeter to make it look like an Island. She wasn't havin it!
Nice job. I used to remove turf that way, and it does suck. Now I use a mattock and it's much easier and you can stand to do it.

This looks so good! When is the weed plastic necessary? How do you prevent weeds from coming through without it ?
I should have put barrier down. I used weed preventer pellets and put them around my flowers
Looks great. Well done sir.
Thank you Keith. I am trying to step up my ground game. There needs to be more than just green!
Looks good . Keep up the great work !!
Thank you! I'm trying. I want to get to the lawn but I just have so many projects. I need to put fertilizer down soon!
Awesome project Clint - I've always wanted a live edge - it looks AMAZING. Nice work Bro! 😎
Thanks Jayme! That thing was fun to make. I don't know how people do that for a living. I was sore for days!
Clint, any tips for the line design? I’m prepping beds on the side of the house bordered by the driveway. The whole area experiences foot traffic and I would like a larger bed house side.
I like it good job my guy
Thank you sir! I appreciate it!
Amazing job bud!! Getting better and better!! Loved the edition 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

I prefer the live edge too. The plastic edging is nice for a while but always needs to be reset at some point. I find it easier to just re-dig the edge with my tool.
Yes! My neighbor has a metal one and from the ground shifting and freezing during winter it is sticking straight up in the air!
Good editing.
Dat thang looks good ! 😎👍🏽👍🏽

Thanks Don! I can't wait for all the color this new flower bed is going to produce. The contrast should help make the lawn look green!
Excellent video, thanks! What type edger did you use to get such clean edges?
I used a shovel and a garden weasel. To maintain I use my idech power rotary scissors.
I'm thinking about doing no dig landscaping. Save my back 😂
What is a no dig landscape?
@TheNeighborDominator basically covering the grass to kill it and planting in that space.
Does the grass ever grow back?
Gooid job
🙏 i appreciate your kind words! Its a little work but very satisfying!
I was in a band named "Flick Everything Back"...
Haha really!? What kind of music was it?
Is there a way to make your beds without compromising the graded slope away from the foundation?
To keep everything correct (through my amateur eyes) after removing the grass and creating the edge. I added back in more soil and sloped it away from the house
Hey don’t throw that grass that was cut/dug up away. That grass can be used like sod in any areas that may be needing repair.
The only thing I could add is make sure the edge is mow able. If it’s to Sharp of a turn
you’ll be edging it. More work ☹️🤘🏼
Great tip thank you! I have mowed twice since the project and it seems ok. The flowers have just sprouted!
Do you have pictures of the flowers growing? Do you have an after video of the flowers?
I unfortunately do not. I have since upgraded this area and will be doing a new video soon!
Is there an update? I feel the need to see those zinnias!
This is the closest I have! I have now put rocks in there and am putting in whiskey barrels. This videos shows the turnout in the beginning. I should have done an update.
ruclips.net/video/zRBIYLnQDK4/видео.htmlsi=tqWCKBtCnlx1B-69
we can't really have an edge like that around our trees because a bunch of tree roots sticks up out of the ground
That makes sense. Do you just put mulch around the tree?
did you know that there are Great knee pads that are much easier and more practical for working on your knees up and down etc
Thank you for not having music blasting thru your video
What about that NO DIG METHOD😮
