    How to make Vegan sweet & sour chicken
    Ingredients
    Sweet & sour sauce: (the sauce recipe below is for 1-2 persons. I suggest you double the recipe if you are cooking for more than yourself!
    2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water
    2 tsp coconut oil
    4 garlic cloves, minced
    1 tbsp fresh grated ginger
    1/2 tsp chili pepper flakes
    1/3 Cup rice vinegar
    1/2 Cup water
    1/2 Cup agave nectar or maple syrup
    2 tbsp soy sauce
    Seitan batter:
    1 jar of Seitan
    5 Cups vegetable oil (for frying) or enough oil to cover the tofu or seitan pieces.
    1 Cup white organic unbleached flour
    1 tbsp cornstarch
    11/2 Cups cold soda water
    How to make the sweet & sour sauce:
    combine 2 tsp of water with 2 tsp of corn flour. mix and set aside. to a saucepan place the chili flakes, freshly grated ginger, grated garlic and 3 tbsp coconut oil and fry for a minute. Then go ahead and add all the other sauce ingredients except for the cornflour/water mixture. Once you've placed the rest of the sauce ingredients into the saucepan bring to a boil whisking all the while. Once its boiling add in the cornflour/water mixture and whisk for 10 minutes. You'll see that the liquid will boil down by half and it will get thick. After 10 minutes of whisking you can turn off the heat and begin preparing the seitan batter.
    How to make the Seitan batter:
    Place the seitan into a bowl lined with paper towel so that it will absorb the excess liquid. set that aside. To a separate bowl add in the white flour and cornstarch and mix. Set that aside. Before you add in the last ingredient for your batter mixture we are going to make sure that the oil for frying is prepared and hot enough. So place the sunflower oil into a pot. There should be enough oil in the pot that will cover the tofu or Seitan completely. Heat the oil to 350 f, or just until if you drop a piece of seitan in the oil it should immediately be boiling like crazy. Once the oil is heated return to your seitan batter bowl mixture and finally add in the last ingredient which is 1 1/2 cups of soda water. Mix well and cover the seitan pieces with this pancake like mixture. Once that is done you are now ready to drop in the seitan pieces in to the hot oil for frying. They should fry for about 21/2 minutes. Once removed place them on a plate lined with paper towel. Pour sweet and sour mixture all over it and mix well covering every piece of seitan. top with sesame seeds, and done!! Serve with basmati rice and any vegetables you like of course.

    hi nice recipe but i just think that a typical sweet and sour sauce the way i remember it to be is a red sauce.

    Hello beautiful! Is soda water the same as sparkling one?
    Thanks

    • @Ireneathanasiou
      @Ireneathanasiou  5 лет назад

      Sa Ra hey hey! Sparkling water is naturally carbonated where as soda water is artificially carbonated. I would go with soda water in this recipe! For any more questions im here for u! 🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️

    • @Ireneathanasiou
      @Ireneathanasiou  3 года назад

      Yes, It's the pre- made seitan. I think you can get a jar of seitan at any popular grocery store or a local bio store maybe? Where are you located?

    Can you cook this in a Air Fryer?

    • @Ireneathanasiou
      @Ireneathanasiou  6 лет назад +2

      Hey there! Great questions and honestly... I have no idea! I've never worked with one before. It would definitely be healthier. If you try it out with an air fryer let me know. I'm curious as to how it would turn out.

    It's deep fry! There is no health in that

    • @Ireneathanasiou
      @Ireneathanasiou  5 лет назад +2

      Natasha Lapierre hey there! Yes I completely agree with you! This dish is to be had once in a while as it is deep fried. The reason why i am putting this recipe on my channel is because some people are in the transitional phase from meat, so this is a good one for those people cutting out meat but aren’t looking for the healthiest meal at the moment. Thanks for watching and for your comment. 🙏

      The common unhaltiness connected to frying is the Trans Fat matter.
      Since 1950's processed food was created and it's richer in trans, and the world started to abuse of it, for money making, to eradicate hunger in the world, etc.
      It's a problem of quantity.
      Trans are connected to a RISK, not to a certainty.
      So if you ab-use (instead of 'use') there you have a problem.
      Gluten allergy exist, medically (celiac disease)..
      Gluten intolerance doesn't exist. At all.
      But people are convinced to have it.
      Water.. from tap, from supermarket bottles.. ..it has arsenic, but if it's lower than legal limits, doesn't need to be written.
      Again.. ..a matter of quantity.
      So how do I deal with the carcinogenic/poisonous arsenic in water? Do I stop to drink it? Do I create a vegan, or so, water?
      Last but not least:
      the psichological unsatisfaction given by certain diets, leads to the need of fake naming the foods..
      Example: tofu/seitan --> chicken
      Means there is a need to believe it is chicken.
      If there is no psichological full satisfaction, in life, can that person be called "healthy", even if there is no deep frying in his/her life?
