- In this video, I will swatch out all the Prismacolor Greys so you can see what they look like right next to one another. This will help you to see the differences between the WARM, COOL, and FRENCH GREYS that come with your 150 SET OF PRISMACOLORS. I will explain COLOR THEORY using the color wheel in relation to using grey and choosing your colors. Then I will show you in a full tutorial how to use all the different greys that come in your Prismacolor set.

Hi Dear, I must say this is THE Most informative, easy and beautifully described video on use of grays on warm n cool colors! Thank u so much.. my eyesight is weak now and I watched it on 50 inch tv screen 😇God Bless you You put so much selfless effort and handwork in letting us learn coloring the pro way 🥰😍🌹❤️
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for your kind words. I really enjoy making vendors like these. I don’t get a lot of time to color these days so making videos is my time to be able to do that and share it with all of you. Watching RUclips on a 50” screen must be awesome! Have a wonderful day. 💕
This was so clearly explained! Thank you, Pamela, for demystifying the greys. 😊
I’m so happy it was helpful. Happy coloring!!
I really needed this! I’m new to coloring and I’m trying to learn as much as I can about color theory and develop my own coloring style.
Welcome to this wonderful hobby. I have an entire series with about 50 videos now called Adult Coloring for Beginners. You can find it here: ruclips.net/p/PLCV050IiJShqP3QUd-Y-01yGs1k1IJsWY
@@PamelasPassionforPencils thank you so much! I will definitely check them out
I love when you demonstrate things in coloring books. I am a visual learner and it really helps. Thanks for a great video.
Thank u so much; this really helped me out a lot! I keep learning new things from u everyday u are an incredible teacher. I have been improving so much lately thanks to u.
I was wondering why there were so many greys, and I was confused about how to use them, so I rarely pick up those shades. I tried practising colouring a white object from ur tutorials with those greys, and it came out so beautiful! I'll definitely try this technique out on some of my old pages!
You are an excellent teacher, and I really appreciate it :D I try not to miss any of your videos because I learn so much every time. God bless you for sharing your knowledge and passion for coloring with us!!! Bless you and your lovely family
Hi Jean, Thank you for the sweet compliment, and always watching and commenting on my videos. I hope you’re having a wonderful day. 💕
Great vid! The 20% French Grey casing colour has always bothered me... so out of place! LOL Still can't get used to seeing it with its family haha
I was looking at that too and wondering why it was so “off”. I’m sure it wouldn’t take much for the company to fix that. It should definitely look more like it’s “family”. 😀
Thank you. I wondered why there were so many grey pencils. I revisited a colouring page I was unhappy with and using grey has helped it.
That’s fantastic! I’m so glad my video was helpful. Happy Coloring! ♥️
I so love this, I need to learn this technique!! So I’m watching it for a third time & taking notes I’ve already scanned and printed the page from the book… now I’m looking up numbers for the names of the colors. I was looking for sable on my swatch chart…. Well it took me a bit but I finally realized sable was sand🤦🏻♀️ I totally forgot they have a second name (another language I would guess). Probably no one else needs to know this but maybe it will help someone who needs it ☺️☺️☺️ Now I’m off to color a turtle 🐢
Thanks for these tips Pamela! It is such a big help. I was laughing as I watched you color the turtle in and all the sudden here comes the yellow chartreuse lol. 💚 Hadassah
Love my bright beautiful colors!
Awesome tutorial! I am a beginner and I am learning so much with your videos. Beautiful coloring and very, very useful information! Thank you❤️
Glad it was helpful! Happy Coloring!
Thank you great tutorial. It helped alot. I didn't know the difference. It was so clear
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.
Finally I understand why all the gray pencils. Plus I bet my art Will look better. Thanks so much!
Cute little turtle!! 🐢 That really did add depth!👍
Interesting. Thank you. I love the way you explain things ✌️
Thanks for this! A few months ago I used the warm greys to make swatch 'sandwiches' (grey / colour / grey), with the intention of learning more about the values of the other pencils. I made plenty of mistakes (such as starting with 70%, then noticing that some pencils such as Dark Umber are closer to the 90%). And so I am going to redo the exercise, perhaps use the pencils with different pressures to create a value range for the pencils. But I thought I would educate myself a bit more about the greys first, and this is a perfect warmup.
Fantastic video with a clear and helpful explanation. I love your channel 💙
Thank you so much!
This is so helpful :) thank you!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Happy Coloring!
You are not alone of not having card! Prismacolor has been pencil since childhood. Swatches of paint are in my mind; for walls and Rugs!
Could you please make a tutorial about the same objects it can be front face but shading by using different sources of light ? From front, les, right, upper right, upper left please. And also for the basic shapes like circle, cube ...
Excellent lesson! so useful and easy to follow. Thank you Pamela!
This was invaluable. It solves A problem I should have been able to think through, but I just had no good idea what the greys were for. ( I'm just learning to use pencils in retirement.)
I have some great Dover coloring books for plants, the natural cooking herbs and medicinals. I colored them carefully, and I do understand blending and contour shading (my Jon Gnagy learn to draw kit, remember him?). But I could not get the colors of the reference illustrations. Mine looked simple minded, too bright, and just not like you see under the plain summer sun in a field. Like crayon colors, with the Prisms color set of 72, I just could "find" the natural, genuine colors. I tried all kinds of color combining, and learned a lot playing around, but the pictures did not look like real to my eye as plants. Now I get it. I pulled out the sheets and very lightly started to damp down the garish tones with the French greys, and voila! Not perfect, but much closer. I will try now adding in the warm grey toner layers as I go, with the new sheets I still have, and see what I get. I did get a little help from the ginger root and sage pencils, but grey just didn't enter my mind. Thank you!
Thank you so much Pamela.
It is very informative video.
Thanks for explaining how to use the grays! What a difference they make! 🧜♀️
They make such a big difference. Thanks for watching! 💕
Thank you so much Pamela ! Really informative, thanks for explaining this 🙌🏻🤗
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Happy Coloring!
Obrigada pelas lições! Aprendi muito!
Hi !! This really helps me. Thank you very much!!
Thank you so much for a very informative tutorial.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. 💕
Great video Pamela! I just didn't understand if you could mix warm grays in shading warm colors and cool grays with cool colors in the same page, like you showed in the stamp demonstration.
Because you used both.
Very helpful video! Thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, Pamela. What do you use the French with - warm colors or maybe earthtone colors?
I use those as warmer grays so with my warmer colors or even blend them with my browns.
What a great idea for a video!
Wonderful información. Thank you!!!
I'm so glad it was helpful.
Pamela, I enjoy your channel so much. You give so many good tips; and I like your voice, and the way you do your creative process. I love the prisma grays also and French grays are true taupes. I don’t think taupe is better represented in any other common pencil set. It is such an important group.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment. Happy Coloring! 💕
Thanks for showing how to use them! ❤
It is always best to put things in the order that you use. Why stick to some other system? Who gets to decide anyway?
I'm still organizing my set to suit me. I'll start with a system that looks good to me, and then I tweak it to my personal taste.
I'm glad you posted this because greys were confusing me. (They are kind of alien...)
Thank you 😍
I thought I remembered seeing a video u had on organizing prisma with light med and dark colors
Thank you so much for this video. Really informative, have learnt a lot.
You're very welcome! Happy Coloring!
Great video!
Thank you so much. Happy Coloring! 💕
You have a nice, relaxing voice
Thank you so much.
Super informative video! I did have a question though, and forgive my ignorance but..What do you mean by purple and green being transition colors?
That is where the colors switch from warm to cool colors. Purple can be either warm or cool depending whether it has more blue or red in it. If more blue, then it’s considered a cool color. If it has more red in it, then it is considered a warm color.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils ooooohhhh! That makes so much sense! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! I really appreciate it 😊
This was so helpful! Thank you for explaining it all so well. Is this grey swatch chart available in your Etsy store?
I have not put it up in my Etsy shop. I was just using it for the sake of the video. I wouldn’t imagine too many people would want a swatch chart for just the grays in the Prismacolor set.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils I went ahead and made one for myself - thanks!
Great video and explanation of those greys. I now need to add some to my collection. Would you say that getting the mid tone greys good idea instead of buying all of them. I don't think i would use the whole set/range
Hi Cathy, I would say starting with the mid-tone grays (warm and cool) would be a great start if you just wanted them particularly for shading. Happy Coloring!
I really don't like warm grays, they always make me feel cold and like they are somehow dirty. Cool greys make me feel good. Weird, I know.
You do an excellent job with this.
He is so cute.
