    Please do more! I've watched your videos for year trying to adapt them to rubber stamped images for my cards. I can't draw to save my life but I love to color. I like my results using the copic and color pencil combo vs just one or the other. But adapting the underpainting and blending on the small design has been a challenge. I will very much enjoy watching you develop a style and process to color smaller images. Thank you for sharing your abilities with us.

      Awesome! I almost didn't publish this video because it's so different from what I usually do. Sounds like there are lots of you who want the tiny lessons too. Thanks for letting me know!

      Yes I agree 💯I am also a stamper as well as using coloring books as I cannot draw. I absolutely loved and learned so much from this video

    I would Definitely be interested to see the process of artists evolve & expand their skills outside their comfort zone to become better artists and to hear the inner dialog is priceless of the goals the artists is striving to achieve. Thanks Amy.
    Working that tiny is applauded because seeing something so small is incredible after 40 🤣 even with bifocals, I'd still need a magnifying glass.

      Noted! I did pull out a pair of cheaters and tried them over my glasses. When that didn't help, I called for an eye appointment, LOL. Old sucks.

      I like that you picked up on the mental stuff. I do think our tutorial-driven world focuses too much on what the hands are doing and not enough on the mental processes driving it all. Maybe that's my unique niche to cover? Hmmmm... gotta think on that.

    Amy this was great! I didn’t think about the size until you pointed out that it was 2x2. Then I looked again and noticed the size in relationship to your hand. Maybe it’s Saturday and I’m a little sleepy…🙄🤷‍♀️.
    But, when you figure a card maker fits a stamped image on a 41/4x51/2 inches or sometimes smaller. It’s nice to see how a small image can look really dimensional with just the right amount of detail. Especially when other elements might be sharing that space.

      Jackie just assumes my hands are gigantic and thinks nothing of it... I'm laughing so hard at this.

      You are so welcome! And that's a big reason why I'm experimenting. I know it's easier to color with realism at a large scale but it's because 5" is harder than 12". I don't honestly know what it's like to color small stuff all the time. I figure if half my students are regularly coloring small, I probably ought to learn what it's like first hand.

      Bonus points for the speed of tiny projects. I'm used to laboring for hours over something. I could film dozens of these in the time it takes to do one for your advanced coloring group. Shall I move y'all to teeny tinies next month?

    I am so glad you shared your process and your thoughts during voiceover! I definitely learned a few things! I’m sure we’d all agree that we could watch you draw / color a paper bag! Speaking of cupcakes, I’ve tried to purchase the discounted class for this month, and am unable to get the discount code accepted!? Either way I’m headed back to your site to sign up for color wonk! Thank you so much for your amazing teaching style!!

    Thank you for doing this! I use my Copics to make cards, and the stamped images always look too cartoonish. I learned that adding the tiny details with the colored pencils (thank you!) helps alot. I think as card makers, we tend to want to get something created more quickly. Have to get that birthday card in the mail! I loved your cupcake, but also loved it before you added quite so many details. Please do more of this if you are happy doing it. Your creations have encouraged me to try to be more realistic, but it is a challenge in small scale.

      Totally agree. A simple cupcake without the sprinkles, sauce, and extra pencil would have been better. I'll do at least a couple of these videos to see how they're received before I decide... but they are fun (and also fast to edit).

    Simple things can be really curious. A marble or a candy can fully grab my attention even more than some big, complex, and beautifully drawn illustration. It’s just a childish feeling, but it makes me happy. Little can be huge. Thank you, Amy, for this video (“

    I love to watch you work, and appreciate the voiceover critiquing your work. It really helps me better understand what you are doing. I’m also now wondering if I am naturally tight or loose in coloring? I don’t think I color enough to really know.

    • @AmyShulke
      @AmyShulke  4 месяца назад +1

      LOL, we never really know our own styles well. I only know what feels wrong or odd for me, this cupcake just didn't look like my own stuff... but maybe others might think it's totally Amy. Tight colorers tend to be control freaks but we also shoot for exact realism. Loose colorers are good with things looking carefree and splashy. Me? I even try to micromanage my splashes.

  • @davidwong2781

    Amy, I really enjoyed watching this. I absolutely think that you should do more of the drawing and coloring on a smaller scale (as long as you still feel like you’re getting something out of it). I also tend to be precise and focused on detail, but I’ve also tried to explore just being looser/freer and learning just how much detail is really needed for something to look realistic (even if some of the subject matter is more on the fantasy side). And something that just occurred to me as I was typing this is that even though larger images/scale means that you can add more detail, you could still ask the same question of just how much detail really is needed for something to look realistic at any scale. But then again, why wouldn’t you just color in a smaller image if you don’t intend to include the detail and any faster results….

    • @AmyShulke
      @AmyShulke  4 месяца назад +1

      Yep! That’s my eventual goal, to go large again and retain the form but with minimalist detail. We’re on the same wavelength!!!

    Nice cupcake but I really liked it when it had less detail? I don’t know why? But there ya go 😊 Lol good for you doing an image that small, I didn’t really get the picture of how small it was till you zoomed out on the camera with your hand as reference. Omgee lol

    I like this small image coloring. Watching you draw and color has helped me to stretch and do a little drawing too. I like the little details but how much is too much? You are such an inspiration, and I would very much like to see more done on a smaller scale. Thank you for sharing your impressive talent.

    • @AmyShulke
      @AmyShulke  4 месяца назад

      Thank you so much! I love that it's gently coaxing you to draw too. Drawing and coloring/painting are different skills but I think drawing adds a level of understanding to color-rendering skills. You may not see immediate improvement in your hands but it'll help clarify your thinking.
      I'm thinking of doing all tiny desserts, got a suggestion for the next one?

    Total beginner with alcohol markers and colouring itself: how do you stop the bleeding on paper and the bleed through the paper?
    Edit: I am not an artist at all I just discovered colouring books and I have absolutely no idea about markers (water based, alcohol based,..) whatsoever 😅

    • @AmyShulke
      @AmyShulke  23 дня назад +1

      Bleeding outside the lines (sometimes called feathering) or the quickly seeping through the backside of the paper are both signs you're using a paper that's incompatible with alcohol markers.
      Avoid papers and cardstocks intended for copy machines and office use. Even most card body cardstocks are bad for markers.
