    Thanks so much for your thorough reviews Barry!! I couldn't bring myself to spend such sums on just a cap, for goodness sake, so I got the Kalenji cap from Decathlon for €7... it's AWEFUL!!! Despite the ventilation, it feels like a head sauna!! Anyway I have long hair, which doesn't help, so I guess I need a visor actually.

      I never thought I would end up with so many! I suppose I got so many as I wanted to try different ones once I had started making videos… but hard to beat the basic Under Armour one…have t worn a visor since I played tennis as a kid… maybe I will try one…!

    Thank you, Barry. Caps are a total bust for me. We still have snow here in Colorado and it was just above freezing this morning, yet I sweat so much that by Mile 3 every cap I try is so sweaty it just drips steadily onto my face and sunglasses. Though balding I can only race in a headband, Junk being my favorite brand.

      @OldManRunner  2 года назад

      Cheers Troy… I’ve never used a headband… but just had a look at the Junk website and they make some beautiful ones…will try one next time I get somewhere hot… it rarely gets hot enough in Ireland for me to sweat too much…haven’t felt that stinging feeling in the eyes for a very long time…

    Great video Barry, and very useful for me. I usually run in visors as my head gets too hot, but I need to do summer training this year and need to get a cap so I don't burn the top of my head in the hotter months. Your video has given me some good ideas on what to buy and what to be aware of. Cheers!

      Great stuff Chris… I’m planning to do something different with the T-shirts video… but it takes some planning… hopefully have something started after Zürich… I’ve never run in a visor… must try and get somewhere hot in the summer…

      Be careful in a visor in the sun, or you could end up with a red circle on the top of your head, like I did last summer!
      And good luck for Zurich!

    So many caps.. I have 3. All white. Adidas and Buff. I need it for the sun in the summer and only white works. No wind to worry about regretfully. Only HEAT. Hat is usually soaked from sweat after every run so I need 3 to manage with the laundry. I have a lot of designated winter clothes like Compressport Wool jacket.. Long tights.. Etc etc.. But in the end I just run in shorts and T shirt.. I get very hot after a few minutes so everything is to much.. I during the first few minutes outside I think that I will freeze to death and turn back? .. But by the 2 km I am hot 🤔. I like to run at around 6 - 10°C with shorts and T shirt. Most important rule I kept this winter (running in shorts and T shirt) was that at the first drop of rain I turn back. It might be 30+ minutes of running back but it will be MAXIMUM 30 min of running in the rain..

      My friend Liam always says dress for the third kilometre...which does work..I overdid it with the caps but because I make videos I wanted to have some variety in them. There is a guy runs on the beach at the weekends all year around in a singlet and shorts. I can handle the rain without too much bother, but prefer to head out between showers and if they happen they happen, but the wind saps my spirits. I ran yesterday in the Sprint Cap and the entire way I thought it would be blown off my head, which it wasn't...I am planning to review some T-Shirts but in a totally different way...once I am back from Zurich...

      Thanks John… love the pun! A few years ago I had a plan to screenprint the logo onto a T-Shirt to wear during the video…I went so far as to buy the shirt and talk to my screen printing colleagues in the University… then Covid came and it got back burnered… must revive the plan…and figure out how to do it on a cap…

    Hi Barry, do you have any insight into whether the ON Lightweight Cap is better or worse than the ON Zero Cap in terms of sweat absorption and ventilation?

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  2 месяца назад +1

      I don't have one and haven't seen one to hand, but I think I will get one. Frustratingly the weight for the cap is not listed. I asked On and got this from their Bot:
      It seems I don't have the specific weight details for the Zero Cap at the moment. However, I can assure you that it's designed to be incredibly lightweight, perfect for not slowing you down during your activities. If you need more precise details, feel free to reach out to our support team or check the product details on our website. Is there anything else you'd like to know about the Zero Cap or any other products?
      The wicking band looks about the same. The clasp is different and my guess is that they saved weight in the visor...will report back when I can get hold of one.

      @@OldManRunner thanks! I reached out to ON to ask about how much each cap weighed since the website didn't list them. They just said the Zero Cap is lighter, although for all I know, it could be very close. As for which one is better for sweat absorption and ventilation, it's unclear, so maybe they're relatively the same. Exact response I got:
      "Thank you for reaching out to On with your inquiries about the Lightweight Cap and the Zero Cap. I'd be happy to provide you with the information you're seeking.
      Weight Comparison:
      Lightweight Cap: This cap is designed to be featherlight, providing excellent protection without adding extra weight.
      Zero Cap: As the name suggests, this cap is extremely light, offering a weightless, barely-there feel, making it the lighter of the two options.
      Ventilation and Sweat Absorption:
      Lightweight Cap: This cap features laser-cut ventilation to help you keep a cool head, making it an excellent choice for both ventilation and sweat absorption. The cap is made from tear-proof, fast-drying fabrics that provide high-performance protection in a breathable, quick-drying frame.
      Zero Cap: Constructed from recycled polyester, the Zero Cap is designed for sweat-wicking performance. It efficiently wicks away sweat to keep you dry from start to finish, making it ideal for intense activities where sweat management is crucial. Its lightweight construction ensures it won't slow you down.
      For low-key style and versatile use, the Lightweight Cap stands out with its advanced technology and breathable design. For a race-ready option that prioritizes sweat-wicking and minimal weight, the Zero Cap is the better choice."

      The Zero Cap just arrived. It is significantly lighter than the Lightweight Cap. 34g/1.2oz v 55g/1.94oz. The sweat band around the brow is identical. The brim is much shorter, 61mm v 69mm and is flexible. It can be flipped up. Looks like an old cycling cap. The adjustment band at the back is completely different. It is stretchy, which is good, but a bit fiddly to adjust. Overall I am really pleased with it. It cost me €38 as a discount on the Last Season section of On-Running site. • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  Год назад +1

      The Under Armour and the On-Running. I also have an ASICS cap that may not be in this video. These are the pick of the bunch with the sweatband. The On-Running has the best ventilation which when added to the band makes it my first choice… though all three are good as is the Janji cap.

    Is the on-running cap machine washable?

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  2 года назад +1

      Yes. I bought my grey cap in May 2020 and wear it very regularly at least once every week and I wash it every time at 30 degrees C. I usually put it into a wash bag. I just checked it over and it is in perfect condition. I also bought a dark blue one some time ago that I rarely wear (something about the colour I don't like). I bought a black one last week that I have worn several times since I got it and and just back from 31km in it. So I guess I like them...
