I’d love to be a flight instructor but the cfi rating is expensive for a job that’s does not earns you much in most case, but the job seems fun and I heard you learn a lot of things when you are flight instructing.
It has been 4 years since i got my commercial pilots license and still i haven't been successful finding a job in the airlines. So I'm thinking to become a flight instructor if possible i think getting a job as a flight instructor would be easier then getting a job from the airlines as a first officer.
Focus at the beginning was on the “why” to become a flight instructor left out helping others achieve their goals, and the relationships that are built while teaching.
I’m not a pilot yet but starting my school next month, I have always thought of being a flight instructor and transfer great skills to people and I also like teaching! However I also wonder that what flight instructors do in winter time since there’s not much flying? I live in like mid-Northern Ontario so you can expect real good winters!
If you want to fly for the airlines and get your ATPL, then having a multi-engine IFR is requirement. If you don’t want to progress past flight instructor, then it’s really up to you
I don't even want to be a commercial pilot, but I think this would be a great job during university. I could pay for my commercial, then make up that money by being a CFI.
As usual, a great video Yaro. Thank you for producing and sharing such detailed videos and knowhow that is indispensable for aspiring pilots. This may be a silly question but when you say you've got to keep studying while doing your Flight Instructor rating, I'm assuming you mean the theory pertaining to the PPL, CPL and the other ratings, correct?
Thanks for the great feedback! Yes, in order to be able to teach someone the information, you have to know it really well yourself. Just because you got your CPL and passed the theory, doesn’t mean you know it well enough to teach someone else. Always studying and digging into the books is the only way to improve yourself
@@AviatorInspirationsYou're welcome! And thanks for clearing that up.. Makes sense. I just thought of something that you could potentially talk about during your next video.. What's your opinion on using a combination of simulation software, such as Xplane 11, flight controls like the Honey Comb Yoke (and perhaps their upcoming throttle quadrant), along with VR for training of student pilots or even keeping one's skills sharp? What's interesting is that I just saw a video wherein they showed a VR headset (the Oculus Quest) is soon going to receive an update that allows hand tracking, potentially letting people do away with VR controls completely! I'm imagining controlling everything inside the airplane in X-plane with your hands and it seems promising. What do you think?
I’m not a big believer or fan of flight simulators, at least the ones you play at home, because it’s doesn’t actually teach you the proper feel of flying, and students who teach themselves often build bad habits that instructors will later have to un-teach later and that will cost you more money. They are great to learn systems, but that’s for later when transitioning to larger aircraft with standardized flight decks. They can also be helpful practicing IFR procedures, but again keeping the airplane on autopilot and just focusing on the gauges. I will do some research into the setups you mentioned, as technology is moving fast and perhaps there is some value in there.👍🏻
Hey! Is it necessary to do ATPL or you can be a pilot at a regional airline if you are a flight instructor after CPL with 1000 hours of flying experience?
The instrument rating is unrelated to getting a flight instructor job because you won’t teach on a multi right away, if the school even has a multi. So I guess the answer is 100%👍🏻
Great video! Is there anyway to get a CFI rating while in school? Many CFI courses are “accelerated” and require 3-9 weeks off from school. Something I may be waiting around months for.
Can one give flight instructions as a free lance CFI and if so, then would the student be able to log the hours towards the check ride for PPL or CPL. To get a CPL does one have to affiliated with a flight school as mandatory or can buy ground school courses online and give exams for ground schools, then get flight instruction from a freelance CFI.
I am not familiar with the US system, but in Canada you need to become a class 3 instructor and then yes you can freelance and teach, either in your aircraft if you want to start a business or on the students aircraft. There is a lot more to it, but in theory yes you can. Again, this is the Canadian system and there could be different things in the US. However the headache might also not be worth it instead of simply working for a flight school.
@@AviatorInspirations I have heard fight schools try to fleece the students in plane hours rentals and their CFIs also come more expensive plus they throw in extra fees here and there easily. Seniority at an airline is decided on what basis ? Date of Joining or number of hours or both ? If I join, say, Air Canada with 2000 hrs but before me somebody else would have joined, say, 6 months prior, but with only 1000 hours, who is the senior here then ? Great Vlogs
Seniority is always date of hire, your hours mean nothing at an airline. I haven’t updated my logbook in a year lol. That’s why the earlier you get hired, the better off you are.

Going through flight school in the u.s. can I get the 1000 hours you mentioned and go for a regional in Canada? Or do they have special guidelines for international pilots from other countries?
You would need to convert your FAA license to a Canadian pilots license, and then apply for a work visa if you’re an international citizen. It’s often not worth it unless you plan on staying in Canada long term.
Actually I have doubts about job regulations, so you think I can find a job in airline with only open work permit? No PR required? Thank you for your response sir🙏🏻
In Canada no, airlines don’t require post secondary. In hard economic times it’s always best to have it when competing with other pilots, but currently during the pilot shortage people are getting hired at record pace.
Hello Good Day im so very interested of this kind of content u have. I have. Question what is the best school in canada im from Philippines. Willing to study and to work in canada as a pilot so what schools offer job guarantee after getting Flight instructor or maybe a job guarantee just to build hours
There are no programs that guarantee a job, as there are hundreds of international students that come to Canada each year, and there aren’t that many jobs available. There are also no “best” programs as they all have to teach to the same standard. However, pick a school that doesn’t have a long wait list and is able to help with whatever you need in your training
Is it a good idea if I dont get my MER initially and go for flight instructors rating with that saved money ? Will it hinder the job oppurtunities as a flight instrustor in the initial phase of my career?
It won’t affect your ability to be a flight instructor, but as a flight instructor you don’t make much money to save for a MER + IFR, so you need to have a plan how you will become fully licensed. Plus if the school has a twin, you won’t be able to teach on that either until you get your ratings
No, in North America you have to build your hours and experience on smaller aircraft and work your way up. It’s a lot faster to progress through the stages tho than it used to be, and you can get to a regional now with only 1000hrs.
That would be a great question for a doctor, I’m not 100% sure. I think it depends on your condition and how’s it’s managed. If you want to be a private pilot then yes I’m sure you can, commercial I’m not sure.
