Hey Steve! Good to see you out and on a bike! mentioned before how I had fibromyalgia and was looking to get into mountain biking and how I could relate to your struggle. I found a super good deal on a 2022 Ragley big wig that was newly built up for only a grand! I’m starting my first group ride on Thursday!
Hey man, I was randomly thinking of you this morning and hoping you are hanging in there health wise. You seem like such a genuinely good dude and I truly wish the best for you.
Hey, major props on powering thru that arthritis. I'm 53 been road for some time now, getting back into ht trail riding. Here in NorCal we've got some pretty good options. Found a great deal on a slightly used Roscoe 9, a bit upgraded, grips, larger discs and hope hub. My only complaint was the bars seemed a bit wide. So I took a qtr" off each side. That half inch less total on the bars and oh how it helps sin I don't have long arms. At 5'10 & 53 I need all the help I can get. But I just love the hard tail platform. Keep on friend! Hope you find relief on the physical ailments! Thanks for all you do!!
Good to see you getting yourself out there Steve! Don’t beat yourself up over your health, this summer has presented some really relentless weather across the US deserts this year. I’m going to have so much catching up to do in the fall. Chronic pain and fatigue, I’d be happy to just sleep thru the second week of September.
Great to see you rippin again! Hope your health will improve! All the best from across the pond! Getting a Sour Crumble soon, also based on your review!

Thanks for the review, it was a joy to watch :) I was deciding between an Alma and the Laufey some months ago and went for the Alma. It felt more efficient and capable enough for the flow trails in here. But always interesting to hear your thoughts.
Steve, Really good to see you out on a hardtail! You mentioned 35mm rims in several videos. I’m looking to upgrade my 30mm rims. With 2.6 inch tires I do feel tire fold at low psi. But I have heard “wider rims don’t like to lean.” And personally I am worried abound rim damage on the rocky stuff with a wider rim. Please consider a video on this topic, it could be a content plug in between rides. Anyway Cheers bro! You are awesome!
I'm looking at a 2023 laufy my local bike dealer has on sale. I saw the geometry specs and it made perfect sense to me as a trail bike. I come from XC, I used to race as a kid and I still rock my old Norco mountaineer hardtail (that bike is now like 18 years old or so). Sadly, It is a size Small on an old XC geometry with 26" tires, so it fits quite small for me now that I'm 30 and I like trail and enduro better than XC. I did notice it is quite responsive and nimble while also stable. That is the one thing that always becomes evident to me (weight, nimbleness and stability). I think I'm gonna look atound and try to ride a '24 model laufy just to compare them and make a purchase decition. My old bike will probably end up in the hands of my little cousin so that he has a nice transition bike in between his little kids bike and a grown up expensive bike.
Another great review!!! Hope you and your family are doing well. 🙏🏻 for your health my friend. Question for you… do think you would ever explore reviewing fat bikes? Nowadays, there are more and more riders, enjoying their fat bikes on the trails in the desert as well as people from the Midwest, such as myself who enjoys them in the winter and also in the summer. Hey love the videos. For your health look into MTHFR gene mutation issues. I went from dying on a bike to riding 2-3 times a week in 6 months. Keep up the great work
I agree with your point about 2.6” tires are better on i35mm rims and have been a believer in #widerisbetter Another suggestion I would like to make for lighter riders (I’m 160#) is to use 31.8 diameter bars. 35mm bars are so much stiffer and 31.8 offers more compliance, especially carbon or maybe those bamboo or Ti bars you talk about.
I've been hoping you would review the Laufey because I think that a 76* STA, 64* HTA is about ideal Hardtail Trailbike geometry and the Laufey comes pretty close. I also prefer 2.6 tires. Thanks for the review.
So sorry to hear about your illness. Hope you get over it so you can keep enjoying the ride. Thanks for this review. I'm interested in how this compares to the growler. Seems there's not too much in it. Maybe orbea climbs a bit better but growler goes downhill better? If you had to choose one for the gnarlier steeper DHs, is there anything much between them?
