      Thankyou Mr 212 my friend. I loved your last few videos especially the multiple engine run. Left a big comment but I see its not there so I must have forgot to press save...your little community of subscribers is growing! GREAT JOB you!!

    When I got zapped by my R90s I realsied how strong those tiny sparks are. For cleaning the electronic or external parts I use CRC contact cleaner. It does a great job on cleaning spark plugs too. What batteries you use ? I have great experince with Varta brand from bunnings. It's $17 for 30 of them

      Pro Tip thx :) Mmm yes the Vartas are unbeatable for the price, and German made. They're my go-to battery so I barely remember where these others came from - it's a 60-pack branded No 8, a Mitre-10 brand.

    Any thoughts on an encapsulated reed switch with a magnet on the push rod for he ignition, perhaps too slow a response.

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES
      @ThomasPCGuruENGINES  Год назад +2

      Hmm if you're going to go the magnet route, you may as well use a solid-state detector ie a Hall-effect sensor. After all, that seems to be what every other reproduction vintage model engine uses to trigger spark - all the Cison, Microcosm, most Enjomors use. I note that MUSA engineworks remakes classics og model engineering and use mechanical ignition switches

    G'day Thomas.....where did you put your grounding wire on your engine mate?

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES
      @ThomasPCGuruENGINES  Год назад +2

      Sorry I missed this comment...truly anywhere metal should work but I decided the closer to the sparkplug the better and connected it under a cylinder head bolt. Welcome to the comments :) How is your engine going??

      @@ThomasPCGuruENGINES Thanks Thomas, haven't started it yet still mucking around making a base for it. I have a few of H&M engines now and they are slowly growing in numbers. What fuel/oil and ratio do you use? I have been using Zippo fuel but it adds up in $$$ quickly.

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES
      @ThomasPCGuruENGINES  Год назад +1

      I don't find them fussy on fuel. I use standard car fuel petrol 95 octane (no ethanol in it here in NZ yet). I add about 4% 2-stroke small engine oil. Sometimes I run more oil than that, then add more undiluted petrol to the mix to lean out the oil if it's smoking too much, once its getting dialled in. The one piece of advice I have found to be most critical is having ignition at top dead centre. These engines are tiny and flame propagation through that tiny cylinder head space is very quick. Also, we don't want them tuned for power development at 2000rpm or above. They're a demonstration engine giving one powerful kick at the lowest RPM they will reliably keep running at. Timing the spark advanced as they might come from the factory (and original full sized prototype engines were timed for) gives a lack of power at the low speed "hit" that means you'll get a bunch of unwelcome hits until miss speed is reached. So, clean your spark plug before each run, get your valves seated, spark at TDC and valves opening so there isn't resistance due to vacuum. If you have spark and it still won't run, your v\carb might be blocked. See where I'm t with the cute H73 now ruclips.net/video/JtcGDph9BeU/видео.html

      @@ThomasPCGuruENGINES Thanks Thomas....I'm having some woes getting even a spark. I think I might have to make a vid and point out the issues I'm having. Just taken the left wheel off to put the governor back together....that's fun with no manual or exploded diagram. Hopefully I can get it running eventually....well at least it looks good!
      i watched your vids countless times picking up hints....I just need more....like you just up the road :)

    Hmmm..
    Very interesting Thomas.
    I'm extremely surprised that the big end has no Shells!
    Can I have an eBay link please to the piston ring, please?
    Kind regards,
    Gary

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES
      @ThomasPCGuruENGINES  Год назад +1

      There are some choices to reduce the cost of this engine pre-production. Shells and ball-bearing cam follower...which I did add the cam follower.
      With very careful shaving of the faces of that big end to perfectly fit it, and keeping it oiled, it's life as a desktop engine is probably ensured even without shells.
