@@eltrainlane bans owning the knives?! I know some backwards places ban carrying, but owning seems unconstitutional. (So does carrying, honestly) my condolences.
Brogue is not purely decorative. It was originally designed to help leather stretch and shrink (when it becomes wet and dries) without cracking. I learned this from watching a video about Trickers. You should do a video about Trickers. It's insane that you haven't covered them yet.
Iron Boots isn't for me in terms of their patterns, but their quality and craftsmanship cannot be ignored. Much respect to them for their well-earned success.
American subscriber from HK here. The city of Guangzhou is pronounced roughly "gwah-ng-JOE", formerly referred to as "Canton" in European/Western texts. "Cheng" is the given name of the fellow who either made the boots or sent them to you and invites comments. Their small company staffed by enthusiast boot-makers is known for using best imported leathers, soles and hardware, and particularly for painstakingly measuring their clients' feet for initial sizing and in the first stages of construction - much like a bespoke suit. They'd be the ultimate purchase for a visiting boot enthusiast. I'm looking forward to your deconstruction of a pair.
@@JJ-zr6fu I don't think that is what's driving the comments, it's just there are a lot of knife collectors out there. Also boots and knives have a lot of cross-over for people looking for "guy stuff".
It's called a quarter brogue when it's just the edge of the toe cap brogued like your new boots are. A semi brogue has more brogue detail & then a full brogue is a wingtip. There you go wes. A crash course in Brogues.
I love Iron Boots and would like a pair one day. One thing that's cool about them is they really use a lot of Seidel leathers which I've come to appreciate more having a pair of Red Wings.
I’ve been looking at Iron Boots for a while and I’ve noticed they are up there with the really well made boots of Asia. Specifically makers in Taiwan, China, and especially Japan. I will also mention boot makers like Iron Boots tend to base their boots on vintage older styles of boots from early to mid 1900s. Also the Dr. Sole soles may not be as functional as lugged soles but again they are meant to replicate the outsoles of the past. All in all a very neat boot.
8:54 I think you could definently do a series on dress shoes. There are lots of makers that specialize in unique lasts and patterns which would be really cool to see compared.
I have the same Microtech. My wife describes it as a fidget spinner for "adults" (yes she even does the quotes) owing to my persistent playing with it. When used the action does smooth out a bit.
Cheap Chinese goods exist because the company getting the stuff made wants it to be crap. Cool, Utah doesn't limit the type of knife. Georgia doesn't either. No restrictions on any blades up to 12 inches. I've had my AKC F-16 automatic from BladeHQ for years. It's my fidget tool. My dress boots are black African Rangers.
Chinese made products are crap because when OEMs go to China for their sourcing, their business model is "how low can you go" and lined their CEO's pocket without any money left on the table for the manufacturer. When there is decent money allowing some profits you get the quality stuff.
I also got confused when he said that. Especially when the Dr. Soles Supersoles have a clear ancestor in the now bought out and discontinued cat's paw rubber soles.
i've come across some of their pictures on ig and they looked really good. seemed super random so really glad you're doing a video on something like these!
Do not get into knives or watches! If you thought the boot world is bad these are next level rabbit hole interests. And starting off with a Microtech OTF is a bad start. They are one of the best in the game.
4:22 The Microtech Ultratech is my favorite carry knife. You're going to LOVE it. Wait till you geek out on knife steels and find out what it's made from! Crucible supersteel ain't your pappy's buck knife. 😅
Honestly I wanna see rose anvil tackle more Salomon’s cause I know a lot of former military and SF that wear these exclusively especially the Salomon XA forces mid and they’re quite good
I used to work at Blade HQ. It was fun. Some people would request that we draw things on the shipping envelopes. I drew Pikachu holding the same knife as in the package.
Blade HQ used to be just down the street from me in Lehi. Awesome guys and products. Highly recommend the al mar stringer. It's a fixed blade EDC that's $12.
These are insanely nice for a Chinese product. These are insanely nice, but u could wear them as everyday boots and they dont look like dress boots too much. I could wear those beauties every day.
I'm in Northamptonshire borders, England, seriously if anyone thinks Chinese boots can compare to the likes of Crockett and Jones and Trickers at this price point they are living in Dreamland.
Don't you DARE touch your NDCs with steel wool young man! They look awesome, showing off the beautiful leather without losing their sense of toughness! :) P.S: great video and iron boots seem to know their business.
i feel like those are laced too tight, once broken in i feel like you foot would start to shift around, and you cant get any tighter from the looks of it.
Acme shoes out of china is way ahead of most of the northampton brands and is lapping american brands like alden and allen edmonds. They are basically the standard at this point.
Those blades are great but cant have em in the land of the free in many places. Boots definitely have an eastern look and are waaay too nice for me lol
The amount of sinophobia in this comments section is disgusting. I would have expected better from a community so focused on quality and excellence, I'd expect appreciation regardless of origin but I'm seeing whiny racists instead.
Videotape yourself destroying perfectly good boots and other folks will just give you free knives. What a wonderful world. Ps. The symphony? That's what you need dress boots for? The symphony?!? We have really different lives, you and I. 😂
The waist on those boots are fantastic, apart from the SPI and the fabulous construction. You can tell the attention to detail by the waist of the boots. PNW boots are callously made crap compared to these iron boots and it shows
IMO the argument for not buyng chinese is the same as not buying Iranian og North Korean clothing... they pay taxes to brutal dictatorships. And the argument that just because we all buy it its hypocritical to call out, i dont agree with because the availibilty and price is out of individuals control. I would buy everything ethical if i could, its a shame that only the rich have the privilige to buy ethical.
The thing about "bad chinese manufacturing" is that EVERY country that has become a manufacturing economy goes through 1-2 generations of the factory goods being bad, then hardware, wages, education and technical skill steadily improves and wages go up, which encourages better work, etc... until the manufacturing base has matured. 10 years ago practically no one would believe that soon several Chinese knife manufacturers would have high end offerings rivaling any US made knife, and for less than half the price.
I would consider that but I have a foot problem I recently found. I was having arch issues owing to a rather high arch I found and I’ve began to use orthotics to help with the pain issues. For that reason a PNW style or other flat boot causes me really bad pain that literally runs up my main foot nerve
The box looks premium and I expect if I order a premium pair of boots, they come in a handsome box. That tells me the care taken not only in making them but in their presentation to the customer. First impressions count.
You keep calling them dress boots but they're not "dressy" at all imo. Like you couldn't wear them with a suit or a pair of slacks at all. At best they're business casual and you could wear them with a pair of khakis or something like that. They remind me alot of an Iron Ranger or maybe Thursday's Captain, which again is not a "dress boot" per se. It's a casual looking boot you'd wear with jeans or khakis. If you wore these with a pair of nice slacks or a suit you'd look like a clown.
You do you…it is your channel, but: I clicked on this video, interested in seeing those boots and your opinion, but at minute 8 there’s still nothing regarding the product to be seen. Just a constant ad for knives. Simply declare it a paid knife advertisement including a look at shoes. Best wishes nonetheless

And it being magnacut!! Cmon... I'm moving to a state that doesn't allow autos and had to sell so many knives. I miss my Ultratech.

All chinese made boots suffered one problem: Excellent Craftmanship with fair but no good enough leather quality.

鐵 means IRON and 履 is a very old terms meaning SHOES, which hardly anyone uses nowadays.

Those NDC's are looking great all broken in.
Starts out his knife journey with a microtech. Nobody tell him about Chris Reeve, knowing his taste in boots he’d for sure carry a Sebenza.
Crazy thing is this is all being hand stitched. The finishing is so nice I would be afraid to wear it lol
14:26 you might have fun doing a review of some of the "sock technology" out there now. 😅 Not even joking, socks are a whole thing.
That would be great!

The toe box looks nice and roomy!
I would have bought the SMUGS if they didn’t have that brown sole. An all black model would be nice.
It won’t be long before we can own them in CA!
I like the design/style of boot although I would go with a different finish. I'm not a big fan of suede or rough out leather.
