Hi.... Justin Rhodes and Rebecca thanks you for showing your video homestead love watching your video homestead beautiful growing vegetables great good job BYE 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
We would grate all squash into our homemade spaghetti sauce and carrots when our child, and me😘 could not handle the texture of those veggies!! Win, win!!
Ikr why are they transplanting so late too. This video is from I think last week. Also more squash than corn? And idk if their corn will even pollinate. Ugh they are stress inducing
Try serving the squash in a savory way. I eat my butternut squash pureed with copious amounts of butter, garlic, and sometimes fresh Sage when I have it.
In Australia, we eat pumpkin just like squash, any squash recipe can be substituted with pumpkin. In fact we call butternut squash butternut pumpkin in Australia. We don’t use squash for sweet things in Australia, squash/pumpkin is mainly used for savory food.. soups, stews, curries, roasted[baked), mashed, so many savory uses for pumpkin (squash). If you want recipes I am happy to send you some. 😊
I love roasted butternut squash! The trick to get em crispy instead of soggy is to use multiple baking pans in oven. Food has to have space to roast instead of steam. ❤
I hope you don't mind me saying that there seems to be continuous issues with these electric fencing. Examples of what I'm seen... the animals are eating the garden, getting into the grain, the animals are where they are not supposed to be, the calves are drinking all the milk when it's not their time to do so, etc. Besides the animals getting out all the time you seem to spend so much time moving all these various electric fences. Maybe it's time to consider some other fencing??? Maybe some fences could be permanent and secure? Just a thought.
Exactly what we did, my husband built pipe corrals and fencing, t-posts and electric fence wire with solar panel power source, never had a loose animal after that not to mention, kept the animals safe! Horses will find something to hurt themselves always, ask the vet. They have spent enough in temporary cheap fencing material they could have built permanent proper fencing 10 times over, in my opinion, not my farm though

@Justin Rhodes I was wondering what breed of chicken, in your opinon, is the best worker/composting chicken? What breed is the one that digs and scratches the best without fail. Thanks.
I'm in the city, with lots of critters that want to dig up my corn seed, but they won't eat the baby plants, so it works to transplant them. I do find that if I can germinate outside, they tend to be more sturdy in a softer soil.
Chaos chaos as always. You don’t make cheese, you grow food (squash) your family isn’t excited about and you over estimate yields in harvest. See potatoes (estimated 1000lbs got 450lbs). There is no way y’all are quitting the store

Just in case you dont know this....dont put horses on deep bedding that gets wet at all. You cant do a deep bedding turned compost situation with horses like you do your pigs. The deep PINE shavings would have to be dry dry dry. Horses will get a stubborn fungal condition if on used shavings on their legs called 'SCRATCHES'. Yes all the pumkins!!! I've had a pumkin arch on my to do since last year when it didn't happen I'm gonna try this year 😅 I have 1 trellis so I'm looking forward to seeing yours! 🎉❤
Rebecca, maybe you can help me. We get lots of winter rains on coarse sandy soil, so its badly leeched out by the time we can plant. Wonderful tip for us to soak in fish emulsion. How often should I water with fish emulsion to improve the soil mineralization?
Because it's easy to grow and sometimes we just have to eat what's there, and maybe they can trade it with neighbours for other foods they don't grow 😅
@@Freedom4eva13 I hope so or they could grow more corn or whatever they eat, ok for pig food too I guess. I don’t hear them saying they will eat it regardless and tho it’s not my beeswax, they do put it out there for folks to comment good or bad for the stats
Kids taste changes as they grow. What they may not like now may be a favorite later . By putting it out there it's available to them . Also when you're hungry you need to realize that you may have to eat what's available because it's necessary and you can't be picky . During the depression my dad said they ate okra everyday because it grew abundantly in the heat when almost everything else died . He didn't like it but it was food and kept them from starving. Kids need to know that sometimes you have no choice if you want to survive.
The only squash that is low carb is zucchini, patty pan, spaghetti, long neck, etc. Butternut squash and similar is no different than, sweet potato and potato really.

Pumpkin and all winter squash freeze dry VERY well. Powder it up, use it for pie, quick breads, cookies, ravioli, soup or side dish. Yummy!
Absolutely, that’s what I do with my abundance
All of your animals would love their own pumpkins.
Feeling so calm and happy after watching some true home rooted family keeping it all together in these modern times. Gives he hope….
Music was sooooooo much better! Thank you…it put a big smile on my face😊
Squash are very versitile- food for all living things, natural dewormer for poultry, and compostable. Many, many reasons to grow all kinds of squash 😊
Squash I'd just a filler. You can make cakes, cookies, sub for pasta . Great animal feed as well 🤷♀️
Lily "No that just taste bad! " Lol ( squash vrs corn)
We’re has Annie gone ? How can no one love roast pumpkin or mashed pumpkin with butter 🫤
Corn starts. Funny

I especially enjoyed the music on this blog. It got me dancing while I was cooking dinner!
Direct seeding corn works amazingly well…. Just fyi…

I've never heard of growing corn from starts - always just seeded it in rows or hills

Add Lillys corn field to the plan for next year 🙌

I'm with Lily, I'd rather have corn any day over squash.
Creamed squash will make Lily changed her mind about squash

everytime I see your fence hanging down I think of what your dad called it the crazy fence lol
I love this video! Thanks for sharing! ❤ Positivity over Negativity! 🙌🏼
Do ya'll have a freeze dryer?
Diggin the 70’s disco music ☺️
How can you not love squash? Make broccoli fritters with a yummy cheese sauce.

What sweet boys❤ Marci your hair is beautiful and it looks so natural

I add squash to mashed potatoes with butter and milk/cream and my kids gobble it up. 💕🍃
Exactly!
I’ve never seen corn not direct planted into the ground. Seeding it in a greenhouse, what is the advantage?

Lily is so her mom. Are you guys able to plant summer squash. I didn’t know if your growing season would work for it. We love summer squash.
Three sisters method plant the squash and corn together
Look up soup recipes for your squash. I put it in lots of things as a natural thickener too

Wow…such a waste….where is Annie?
Second garden
Squash seeds take days to come up. What's with the starts?
Because the garden beds were being used for something else which is now harvested!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of garden tarps do you use? I need some but don’t know what they’re called.
Silage tarps. Sometimes farmers have some they are replacing. Try the Co-op??

im with her i dont like squash
Love winter squash and literally all squash. Don’t really care for corn. It’s fine, but not my favorite.
Corn GMO??😢😢
SQUASH.....is NOT a low carb fruit.
At half that of a potato... I'd say it is. If you can get 8 net carbs from a cup of squash? That's pretty good yeah?
@@jeffbeck0101 It isnt terrible but how did you bring potato into the mix. At 8x that of Kale, I'd say it isnt..... :)

Why aren’t you guys planting the corn with th squash? 2/3’s of 3 sisters…. Just more efficient. Maybe I haven’t watched far enough.
Maybe you should tell the cows the plan.
