Labour Pledges To Make NHS Doctors Work On Weekends To Cut Waiting Lists

- Hospitals would be expected to pool staff and share waiting lists as part of a Labour drive to deliver an extra 40,000 NHS appointments a week.
Under the plans, hospitals will run evening and weekend surgeries, with staff and resources pooled across a region.
Patients will be offered appointments at nearby hospitals, rather than necessarily at their local one, allowing them to be treated faster.
Karol Sikora from Rutherford Cancer Centre joins Talk’s Mike Graham to discuss this further.

Two of my relatives both worked weekends for the NHS. This is nothing new
Absolutely as other healthcare professionals have to work over a 7 day rota and people are not just sick Monday to Fridays
Why not make them work 24hrs, that would be even better....... seriously???? can someone please reform the NHS so it works, not just throw money at it.
How can someone work 24 hours.
It wouldn’t be allowed.
They need to stop going to foreign nations and bringing in “doctors” to keep the wages low, which means British doctors flee to a better paying country.
That's rich. It was Blair's Minister for Health, the useless Aussie Patricia Hewitt and others who signed off the new NHS contracts which reduced weekday hours and weekend working. This effectively reduced the size of the work force at a stroke.
The first thing they need to do to make the NHS better us to get rid of those at the top and the Departments of DIE
That’s one policy I agree with
Buses and trains run at evenings and weekends. Royal mail deliver letters 6 days per week.
Supermarkets are open 6 days per week including various bank holidays.
Yes and so do Drs and Nurses.
@@stephenjon3502 That is true about hospital workers but not about GP surgery workers.
The impression I have about GP surgeries is that they prefer the shortest possible working week.
@@georgewarner5496I’ve had an operation on a weekend. Depends what it’s for. I’m more concerned with them getting enough rest.
In 1957, at 4 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon, my mother called our family doctor to come and see me because I had a terribe pain in my lower right stomach. Two hours later I was in hosptal. By half past six that same evening, I was in the operating theatre of my local excellent hospital, ( which has since been closed ), to have my appendix removed, All went well. If others in our communities can work at weekends (and I have worked weeekends many, many times in my lifetime) why can't doctors ?
How do you think emergencies are dealt with, let them wait till Monday.public ignorance of what actually goes on in our hospitals is seen on here.
Doctors are working on weekends and evenings to treat NHS patients on waiting lists at a premium rate but working for private insourcing and outsourcing companies brought in by and paid by the NHS. These same doctors are working on NHS contracts on 8 till 5 contracts and their throughput of patients is below national clinically safe levels so on NHS contract they may operate on 3 patients during an operating session but at the weekend (throughput levels is not contained within their job plans).for the same procedure they are either paid by patient and "shocker" they can manage to see 6 patients or alternatively the contracts with private companies put in their contracts the expected number of patients the doctors must see ,nationally agreed numbers, unlike the NHS who do not hold them to account for under performing. Its a scandal. In many hospitals the doctors are paid additional payments to work out of hours to make up for below productivity during the day. Medical Directors on the board are not prepared to challenge the doctors but why would they, because they too are seeing patients and dont want to withdraw any of the benefits which may affect them. Its across the whole NHS in huge numbers and has been going on for years.
They only want to do 3 day weeks
How ignorant of starmer and Co, Dr's consultants, anaesthetists, and a myriad of other staff operate and do surgery over the weekend. We always had extra eye surgeries done. I despair over our possible next Gov already.
Why should they work weekends the public clapped for not doing weekends (or any day for that matter)
Oh yes... I want the people who are supposed to care about my well-being and perform delicate surgeries overworked and underpaid and forced into a 7 day work week... this can only result in good times. ¬_¬
And if they won't. What will you do then?. They've already shown their new found propensity for militant action. This is nothing more than GE window dressing. Ignore it.
More people hospitals have not grown to accommodate the massive flow of people and GPs being non existent
Doctors do work at weekends do you want them to work 24/7
So their plan is to make them work more hours not see what the main problems in the nhs first which might be a good place to start
Am missing something here? I thought all these immigrants and illegal immigrants were all doctors, nurses and engineers. Why don't we just employ them then????? Ahhhh, we were all lied to. That's why.
Change the record.
@@stephenjon3502 It's not my record. It's what we have all been told.

@@cw8867Would you work for nothing? Of course not.
@stephenjon3502 what?... what are you talking about?..
@@stephenjon3502they wouldnt be what are you talking about
@@cw8867If you worked extra hours would you do it for free?
Of course not. Simple question.
24/7 350 odd days a year excuse me I work 6 nights a week thanks and guess what I am a English cleaner we are willing to do these jobs
I am a retired cleaner. You are an angel 😇. 🇦🇺😊♥️
If they get a day off during the week so they can rest and do family things, it's a good idea.
But could burnout be possible?
I’ve just had an appointment on a Saturday. They already work weekends, this is just more waffle to try and get people frothy.
Drs r human need rest too. Too work weekends mmm causing probs
