I made some crappie pattern swim jigs after another tip you gave about bass feeding on crappie in the spring. I used white rubber skirting and simply splotched and spotted it with a black Sharpie. Had to use rubber because the Sharpie ink wouldn’t soak into the silicone skirt material.
Went out from the bank today, first open water of the year. I’m in Michigan and it’s been a cold spring so far! Got three bass on a three inch fluke type bait. Switched to try for crappie, no crappie but caught and released six big bluegill and redears on crappie jig. White 1/8 marabou with a chatruse nibble
Topwater fishing is gettin better every time I go out. This mornin 2 almost 5 pounds n 5 or 6 more super quality fish. It’s funny you don’t hear more about crappie baits . They r super plentiful in most lakes and one of the best eating fish out there.
was out the other day looking for some new rattletraps (bill lewis). specifically the 'smokey joe' pattern. seems it's no longer around... good topic Randy!
Found 6lber on the bank dead with a crappie the same size as my hand stuck in its mouth. Huge crappie pattern user in the spring. Chatterbaits, swimjigs, sharpie marker dots on squarebills to crankbaits.
I'm somewhat new to bass fishing. I started last year, but this makes a lot of sense. I went bass fishing the other and kept getting bites on a swimbait, but I couldn't hook up. I switched to a small Keitech and found out it was a boat load of crappie up shallow. I ended up catching about 20 crappie
So glad you did this one Randy Answered a Q that I’ve had for a long while. Will crappie patterns work in a squarebill or small swimbait as well? Love your content, really appreciate your dedication to getting these out, keep them coming.
I wonder if the "baby bass" or the "bream" colors would be a good option during this time to use. Maybe the "smallmouth bass" color option? Just a guess. Great video and thanks Randy!
I have a ton of good luck with a baby bass color for big bass. I use a baby bass colored fluke in early summer and work it very slow in a glacial lake near my home. Everyone complains about not catching fish there, but I get em'! If it matters to ya, I use it weightless with an ewg hook. Short rapid twitches and long pauses close to the bottom along the bank.
Love megabass jerkbaits but the hooks are absolute junk. Every time I left the stock hooks on, the broke by the second or third fish. I switch them out for vmc’s now. That’s a good looking pattern though
@@MaximilianTheBassFisherman That's what I thought. Therefore, using a Crappie patterned lure for post-spawn Bass seems to be a bit of a conundrum to me.
Looks like a special project...! Cool paint job.
Awesome Tip Randy ! I Will Be Custom Painting One Of My Jerkbaits
I used to use the tube alot back in the 90s, I still have some and I think I'll start again. Thanks for reminding me.
Right on time with this content. Awesome Randy

Now you got me thinking about crappie pattern squarebills too.
The crappie pattern has been around long time . Used to be called coachdog . awesome pattern that no one makes any more .

Fred Arbogast baits has been calling that color Coach dog for decades...It’s a great one!

Great tip.

I have had success on the Spro jerkbait in Cell Mate color which is similar to the crappie color.
That’s my secret lipless crank color this time of year too.
Im ready for a good tournament video ..would be ur most viewed for sure
I knew when I saw the thumbnail it was supposed to mimic crappie. I bet I can make the same pattern with a bone white jerkbait and a black sharpie.
Will this still work in unusually warm weather (80°) in April? Do you use a faster cadence? Thanks!
Yep little to no pause
Hey Randy, could I use the Levante Whipsnake for jerkbaits? Will it be as effective as an Orochi?
Hi Randy, I would like to know how garfish have an effect on bass in an area.
They usually make the bass move shallower

Dalmatian?
Generally speaking, do bass spawn before crappie spawn, or after crappie spawn?
Crappie spawn first

ANYTIME you're catching crappie on bass fishing lures, you'll catch bass on crappie patterned baits.
Randy who custom paints your jer baits
Dave Ryan
Does he have website, youtu.be
If a crappie pattern works, why not just use soft plastic in crappie pattern and shape?
Wanna put money on that? It's April.
Have you got your RAM truck back?
Still in the shop!
May be next year LOL you will get it back
Can you make some crappie color baits and sell to me…?
