I like to do the "Finish the Masterwork Weapon" from act one, that gives you a simple weapon (monk proficient) that, one a hit, silences the ennemy. Ultimate anti-mage ninja without needing to spend a KI point to cast silence. Especially because they can walk out of it, where with the weapon, they cannot x)
For me the most interesting shadow monk build is the one that uses the shadowblade for psychic damage + that inventory item that gives everyone in a radius vulnerability to psychic damage

Now yes the dagger would have been good, since Finesse. But he Sickle using strenght modifier, Potion of Strenght complements it really well
