  • The easiest cue for timing your breath in freestyle?
    Getting the timing of your breathing correct in freestyle allows your stroke to maintain good rhythm and coordination. If you breathe late, this throws a lot of other parts of your stroke out.

    Wow! Not often that one simple change in technique has such a massive effective! This is one of those. I have been struggling for some time with (1) keeping my forward hand up while breathing and (2) turning my head forward before pulling with the opposite hand. Initiating my breathing just a fraction of a second earlier, keeping in mind your "pull yourself into breathe" mantra, and everything fell right into place. Not only did it solve those two problems, but this small change actually increase my distance per stroke (as it lengthened my glide during the breathe) but also helped me coordinate other aspects of my stroke and swim with less effort. Amazing! Thanks so much for this little tip.

    I'm 73 and had both knees hips shoulder replacement and split femur with 18 inch rod and your videos have been very helpful. It has been a long trip. Oh and I was in the Air Force for 21 years. Life sometimes is hard. Thanks again.

    Great video ! I'm a late learning adult swimmer and my coach picked up my late breathing and corrected it in a similar fashion. Went from a rushed partial breathe to a fuller more relaxed breathe. Other stroke aspects started to follow, but this was what got the ball rolling. To other late learner's get this right and then add the 6-1-6 drill (another great vid) and your swimming flow will start to happen !

    Great video Brenton! Thank you. I've found doing the 'Bird dog' core exercise in the gym, very helpful for training the arm to stay out in-front (without dropping) when turning head to breathe. It's also a great endurance exercise for the core, which translates well to freestyle swimming.

    I have been struggling to get that rhythm of breathing for so long....this video was the missing part...I watched it today in the morning and applied the technique and noticed a miraculous change in my swimming. Overall, armstroke, rotation and breathing everything fits perfectly now and I can swim more efficiently... thank you so much.

    Thanq. Yes … reaching out further forward with the non-pulling arm really helped me with side-breathing. It just clicked and my head is out of water effortlessly….literally. Maybe I wasn’t rotating correctly. So thanx once again.

    Great video again. when i look at the arm under water, but also in other videos of good swimers it appears that there is a wiggle in the arm. this happens when the hand elbow and shoulder are at the same height. where does that come from. Also please make a video on the pull phase. i know about slow to fast but.. how do i know how hard or fast to pull?

  • @10khillred
    @10khillred 11 месяцев назад +1

    I'm a beginner, I figure the best time for breathing is when the rotation peaks. In this way I don't need to worry about arms and it makes timing much easier.

    Thank you for this. Question:do you recommend beginning the head turn to breath only once you've established a solid EVF catch? I tend to slip through that on my breathing side.

    Can you show how to do a tumble turn, break it down so I can teach myself? To turn I go to end of the pool and twist and turn while head up in water. I’d love to know how to do a tumble turn.

      @@stefanba2029 Agreed, front arm always wants to sink asap, so get the breath while it's still out there. Bringing the face back down before the recovery is halfway through makes it all seamless.

    • @stefanba2029
      @stefanba2029 2 года назад +3

      @@kevinabalo Yes, taking your face back down before your upper arm passes your eyes. In order to do that, starting the breathing when your arm starts coming out of the water is too late.
