  • If you don't coordinate your breathing and catch...your entire stroke can be impacted. That's why your breathing timing is the bottleneck to good technique for many swimmers we work with.

A different cue from Brenton that worked better for me than “pull into your breath” is to start turning your head to the side as the contralateral hand enters the water. It’s more or less the same moment, and the former cue had more tending to over-rotate

Think of the lead arm catch as pulling the face back down into the water after the breath has been taken.

I think this can be my silver bullet. I am a right-hand person. I've been struggling with bilateral swimming, especially left-side breathing. Also now I even doubt that I am doing my right side correctly. Looks like I have a slow recovery with the left. Thank you so much. Let me get back to you with any changes.

Funny thing (or not) is that I'm also right-handed but contrary to you I can't breathe to the right side.

@@inz_uzi Do you swim bilateral? If so, it is good. Yeah, honestly I've thought my right side is ok but now I need to check it carefully. I am gonna practice this and find out more. I think this will give me a solution. I hope you get yours as well.

@@sungmyonglee5280 As I wrote I can breathe only to the left side so I don't breathe bilaterally.
I doesn't bother me much. Bilateral breathing is overrated.

@@inz_uziI guess you are a fast swimmer. But I have an injury in the back. That is why I do bilateral swimming as my doctor's advice. I do not know which one is better. Just my idea is that if we can use both sides I think that is good. But we know it depends. I am just looking for a confy way to swim. Technically, I am not good enough to explain anything about swimming to you. Hopefully, you will make your breathing confy soon. Cheers~

I've found my flaw on the left side breathing while practicing along with your video and advice. It is not exactly checked numbers or time but roughly if my right-side breathing takes 1.0sec, the left side takes 1.2sec or so. What I mean is I tried to stay my mouth unnecessarily long out of the water while left side breathing. So moving the head back to water neutral position right after inhaling as quickly as possible I feel definitely more comfy than before with my kicking and arm stroking. There might be another flaw(s) in me but for now, I think I should get used to this through more practice. Thank You So Much!! Thank You "Effortless Swimming"

Pulling into the breath is definitely something I'm finding really helpful to lock in the breath time nice and early. Now to figure out why my lead arm is sinking!

  • @edwarding4355

I breath just like that, and I do notice this swimmer has the same asymmetries I have-- more roation on the breathing causing the catch following the breath to start a little rotate (not with the body flat
    ) .

Hi... I was born with a club foot which was operated upon. So I have zero mobility in one ankle of mine which is stuck in a 90degree position. It atrophied my calf.
So that leaves me with one normal leg and one very weak leg which I can't bring to pointy-toe position because I can't move my ankle.
This non-symmetry leaves me with a skewed kick which takes me all around the place. I have no balance.
This leaves my feet sinking, and my lack of balance makes it extremely difficult to learn how to breathe in the freestyle position.
Can anyone please help? I'm supposed to swim daily to help relax my scoliosis affected spine. Yeah. I'm fked 😅

Do we kick down at the time of finish of catch?

    • @edwarding4355
      @edwarding4355 2 года назад

I think the strong kick (on the same side as the catching arm) occurs just before or the same time as the catching arm starts. So it is strong kick, weak kick, weak kick, strong kick, no kick no kick, repeat(4 beat). Or strong kick, weak kick, weak kick, strong kick, weak kick, weak kick (6 beat), or strong kick, no kick, no kick, strong kick, no kick, no kick, for 2 beat kick. All using a 6 beat rhythm.
