"You can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself" - From Garden Party, by Rick Nelson. 99.9 percent of us are here to see your reactions, the way you want to present them. If somebody doesn't like that, they have a plethora of other choices, or they can continue to complain and hopefully be ignored, as this is still a (mostly) free country. I'm a fan, so you go ahead and be you.

It’s so good. It’s about Vincent Van Gogh, the painter who took his life. He suffered from mental illness. Such a beautiful video with them performing in front of his paintings. Don sounds great for 78! The song is 50 years old. So beautifully done by the boys too! 🤩😃

Thanks for unwrapping this song for me (like a... Christmas present huhu). Honestly sometimes there's songs that I just find meh until someone pauses it and forces me to listen to parts over and over while telling me what's so good about it. This was one of those songs. I was like 'yeah, it's good. It's Home Free, of course it's gonna sound good... but would I listen to it over and over? Nah- probably not.' But then vocal coaches come in and tell me what I'm (duh obviously) missing and it makes the song ten times better. My brain isn't wired to handle nuance. Either I get overwhelmed or barely whelmed, so these are very useful to me.
Although I will say... Rob's voice in this... it's a definite highlight. We know he can sing, and he's smooth like butter, but damn. Sometimes it catches you off guard.

Good R&A as usual! Thanks for doing both versions. I personally am not a fan of the first one. I didn't like how HF was demoted to BV. Nothing against the judges and host; they just took the spotlight away from HF. But, their new version... wow! Absolutely beautiful. I love how seamlessly Austin and Rob traded lines back and forth at the end. And Austin & Rob singing duet - gorgeous!

I absolutely love how supportive HF is, especially Austin, of his band mates. You can see Austin looking at Rob and smiling the whole time. He is truly happy at how talented Rob is. You can see Austin looking at Tim in awe over the bass in Skull & Bones live. Good people that can still be happy to be a part great music with no competition or jealousy.

Thanks for the double feature! I had not seen this version from the "Sing Off". The judges & host kind of took over. I much prefer Home Free on their own. I love this great classic song from Ben E. King back in 1961. The Home Free guys did an awesome version as always. Love their arrangement on this cover. Great vocal leads by Austin & Rob. Tim's bass really stands out for me in this one. And Adam's tasteful vocal percussion is on point.

I do not remember seeing this on the Sing Off........was Home Free on more than the one season they won because Ben Folds was the 3rd judge not Patrick Stump. (Was wondering who that was when he came out)

    • @belinda9696
      @belinda9696 8 месяцев назад

@@tosweet68 This was on season 5 of The Sing-Off, and Patrick was a judge for that, which was the last season of Sing-Off. Home Free came back as return guest performers in season 5, that's why Austin's hair was longer and he had some facial hair. PTX won season 3 and came back in season 4 for performance and gave some advice to Home Free as well in their season 4, so they did the same and were called back in the 5th season.

To see how much they have developed in many areas but are still just as true to themselves as they were then! Adam Chance really jells with their tight harmony! Adam Rupp really shined in the new version as well. Loved your reactions to dissonance in the cords and great breakdown with even the judges. One of the songs I have been listening to for as long as I can remember. (I'm from 1963) First the LP, later I always had it on one of my cassette tapes, then I got the CD and in recent years I usually have it on one of my playlists. Although many versions had been released in the meantime, it was usually the version by Ben E. King or Otis Redding. But from now on it is the version of Home Free that is on my playlist and no other. Alternating the lead between Austin's powerful voice and Rob's silky soulful voice just sounds so beautiful and fantastic. Then the unparalleled vocal percussion, truly phenomenal. The great bass and beautiful harmony are the finishing touch.

Oh what a masterpiece of a song and how it changed over the decades. Still remember the "old" style version sung by Elvis, then the "new" version by Ben E. King, which was produced in the 60's but became popular again in the 80's again at a time together with other famous songs like "caravan of love" when I was in my mid 20s. I found the older HF version at the competition ok but not really special. However the actual HF version is once more a masterpiece by itself. Thanks a lot for the reaction, Jen. ❤

Thanks for doing both versions. I had not heard the first one. My favorite embellishment of the song is the bell tones. They’re beautiful! 😊

Great video Jen! Just wanted to take a second to inform you that all of the judges to ever be on the sing off were professionals :) The first judge that sang in the song is Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men (Home Free has done a cover of their "End of the Road" and I highly recommend), the second judge is Jewel, who they sang "Oh, Pretty Woman" to (I'm not sure if she had any super notable songs but she has a very lovely voice), and the third judge is Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy (this explains why his verse was much more "harsh" than the others). And it seemed like you knew who Nick Lachey was lol

Dear Jen, thank you for always pointing out interesting details and making me appreciate songs I’ve loved my entire life even more.
About the “Christmas-notes” I know exactly what you’re talking about, I’ve said the same thing and gotten the same response 😂

Don't forget that Tim can do almost whistle notes! He used to be part of a group that performed on cruise ships. There were like 3 or 4 actual groups and they'd be on separate ships. Performers turned over often & Tim taught the parts to those new members, whether they were Tenor I or the lowest bass. And his college degree was in MATH! He taught math for many years & did music on the side! I know me as a young girl - if my teacher looked & sounded like Tim, math would've quickly become my favorite class! 😉

My guess is that the high bell chord run is being done by Adam Rupp and he is therefore doubled tracked doing that and the beat box. But that is a usual range for him when they have him singing background. As an example, listen to How Great Thou Art, where he is exclusively doing high ooh's.

I'm not sure if you've done a reaction to Tim's cover of "Can't help falling in love", if not, I'd love to see you react to that one. And as always, Tim just nails that one to near perfection.

I would have to agree... Christmas! This was just incredible. The way they switched off and took turns with the lead and then Tims bass notes in the background making my toes curl...yummy. I loved this one so much!!!!!

Been watching your reactions for a long time now...love 'em and keep coming back. One of the best things about you is your spot-on expertise at technically examining so well what's happening musically, while at the same time, after all this time, your sheer joy at just experiencing the performance...sometimes you stop the analysis and just say..." I LOVE this!" Well, Jen, I LOVE this about you! 👍
