6 months later: Now, remember the flooded Aston we bought, well we finally got the seat out and we're gonna be working on it again so stay tuned for next month when I change the fluids! Oh look, a chicken!
You should avoid rushing to power a flooded car. First you should wash it to remove the most salt as possible. Then clean all the electronics and connectors. Replace the fluids, and only then apply power to the car.
That module in the Volvo world is called the CEM and it stores the configuration for the car on it including VIN, it also handles the immobiliser. You may be able to get some power to the car by replacing it, however it'll likely require coding to get it fully functional.
The state that fuse box came up, I doubt any electrics on the seats will still work, the motors will have turned to rust. But wish you luck, it's a really beautiful car.

Hey Sam, I'm not sure where you are at in the process, but my DB9 had an electrical kill switch in the trunk and a reset behind the passenger seat under the squab. (Its very possible the owner rolled the windows down and hit the disconect in the trunk before the storm to prevent damage) You can also most likely get to the trunk through the back seat area as there should be a pull release that can be accessed through there. Good luck! Can't wait to see the progress.
Yo Sam, could you please make an episode where you park all your builds together. It would really help my OCD as i like seeing things lined up neatly. Others might enjoy it as well!! 😂😂
Anything with power will suffer from electrolysis, when exposed to salt water. PCBs wil dissolve copper traces and anything zinc will disappear. Some things I found thru experience... Sam, you like the same cars I love. I’m a minor collector having six cars including a C4 Corvette, a Jaguar XK8 which is very related to the Aston DB7, a Mustang and a Thunderbird. I don’t work on my cars which makes me buy cars in good working order. I used to work on cars having worked in a service center thru college.
That fuse panel box needs to be programmed to the car. I went through this about ten years ago on a DB9. Got it off Copart and was flooded the same as yours. I purchased a used fuse panel box thinking the same as u but it didn’t work. Turns out the box is coded to the car. I took the car to my local Aston dealer it took them two months to get a new box and at the end they couldn’t program it completely as they needed the old box to download the software and uploaded it into the new one. Wish u luck but that fuse panel box is a nightmare.
Sam given the amount of flood cars you buy , i think its time you bought an ultrasonic cleaner and had a go and putting some boards through it , you may be surprised with the results but your module was too far gone even for that , though again cost nothing to try and see if traces were intact at least
Yep corrosion like that and electronics is not a good sign, Likelyhood is that you'll be replacing every single bit of electronics in that thing. All wires have to be packed with desicant to get rid of all water. Corrosion will be on all pins and connectors !!. Your in for a lot of expensive work !! Also note water will work it's way along the inside of all wire jackets, so wires over time will corrode and fail if not properly dealt with.
I do know a mechanic that bought a flooded car. He gets it and just the floor mats are flooded. He did pull and flush the transmission just in case. Went to sell it, well it’s still a flooded car! He has a very originally expensive car to drive to and from work.
the plastic box you removed is not just a fuse box. its what you call a CEM module. its a common failure item on Volvos with heater core failing and dumping into it and another failure from the heat in hot climates.( heat failure causes the module to randomly loose communication and put the car in limp mode) these modules are also uniquely programmed to the vehicle and can be done only by the dealer. also you cannot get a used module to program through the dealer it must be a brand new module. and they cost around 550$ new. there are third party services that can read the immobiler data and other vehicle data from old module and then write them to a used module but your old module doesn't looks like the information can be retrieved from them. it looks like you need a new module and has to be programmed by the dealer. some simple research across forums would have told you this but i guess it adds for a good story to buy a used module and showcase viewers how it wont work.

@@samrodian919 not really it would cost nearly 350$ or less for a new CEM module. volvo charged me nearly 200$ to program it. i am guessing aston martin would charge him more. but pretty sure for under 1000$ this can be resolved. the CEM module controls all the central electronics and is gateway to all the other modules it is very vital. for any other older volvo this might be as you say "throw a wrench in the works" but this is a very desirable aston martin dbs so its actually considered a cheap repair.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to argue but I've spent a lot of time at high-end dealerships, AM in particular, and I highly highly doubt the owners were sentimental about this car getting totaled. You rarely get to be wealthy enough to be able to own a $300k car without understanding exactly how business works. I would eat my shoe if they felt any more than annoyance that they were gonna have to spend any amount of time dealing with the insurance paperwork. They would have known they were gonna get a payout and had most likely already started working on getting a different car ordered before this one was cashed out. I say "different car" in the sense that I'd eat my other shoe if they bought another AM. People love them, then they actually get one, then they get something else. Probably a Ferrari.
I was the previous owner of this DBS. It has a number of new parts. The coil packs and plugs are new and the oil was changed appropriately 1,000 miles ago. If you can’t get it repaired I have a relationship with Aston Martin for parts and would be interested in buying it back from you.
Get stuff in a ultrasonic clean bath! Of course, if it’s complete rotten away, that not fixable, but most electronics is resistant against cleaning agent. Dry it in an oven afterwards.. Following!!

The rate in which Sam "works", he will have to worry about that part in a few years.
Always amazing to me how much AMs cost and how cobbled together they are with parts from a garden variety of makes.
The Volvo part costs $80 used, on a scrap yard. Additional cost for programming if needed.
The state that fuse box came up, I doubt any electrics on the seats will still work, the motors will have turned to rust. But wish you luck, it's a really beautiful car.
I unfortunately agree
Nah it'll buff right out.
The motors are probably off the shelf items, removing the seats to replace them is likely to prove challenging.
If you can get to the seat motor connector, you should be able to move the seat with 12v
I was thinking that. Cordless drill battery
Could just find the connector at the BCM and apply power there on the pins to the seats. Same for the trunk release.
That's an absolute beauty and I hope to God that fuse box provides a solution.
