My parents divorced when I was 2 or 3 and I completely agree. I think it was actually so much better that they ended their relationship when I was young. I was always understanding that my parents did not have a healthy relationship and as a result, didn’t want them to be together. The alternative was them screaming at each other in the house and that was a lot harder for me to deal with than them leaving each other.

His wife is a lot more forgiving than I would have been. To be honest, I would have taken the kid, picked up the pieces of my heart in walked away. I wouldn't even ask for child support. Not to mention the safety aspect since Ned did this very publicly. I could see Ned pressing on Ariel with that as well. Currently trying to escape an abusive relationship so maybe this is a different dynamic but I remember discovering something similar. I think most people thought she should leave because Ned didn’t seem to value her in the relationship before the cheating. I remember a lot of people saying staying for the sake of the children being bad, which is true. They think kids can’t tell they’re unhappy, they can.
From experience, if you give up your happiness for what you believe is in their best interest and not your own, you teach them to accept what they shouldn’t. They know you’re not truly happy. You teach them no valuable lesson and provide them no valuable asset. I truly hope she is happy. I hope they’ve really worked together and maybe I’m wrong- I hope I’m wrong.
If that is what she wants to do, we can only hope that he changes. If not, I hope she recognizes her worth and moves on.

as a teen/adult it’s so heartbreaking to realize how horrible your dad is to your mom, and how many years they’ve been together. It may not be outright abuse but as you grow you start seeing the disrespect in the little things. It completely changes the way you see your parents.

My parents stayed together “for the kids” but we never wanted that… it only made us resentful towards both of them for always being angry and distant with each other and not giving us a fully loving household that we deserved.
They have kids together. So even if they separate, she’ll likely do her best to maintain a friendship so they can co-parent without issues. Or she’ll try to make it work if he vows to stop cheating. Of course my gut instinct says to dump a guy who cheats, but adding children to the mix makes everything much more complicated.
If she wants to stay with him, that's her choice.
No one is perfect, people change and I am all for family! So I hope they both truly figured it out and are truly happy.
