Have you got your twanger out? You can bounce your balls at the same time. If you don't have a twanger, ask your friend if you can play with his twanger... LMAO
I distinctly remember this show, and this episode in particular, being aired in the early 80's here in Australia.. I was about 5 or 6 at the time, and actually made a Twanger Box (a tissue box with an elastic band stretched around it across the hole where the tissues are pulled out, kind of a poor man's guitar) to use when this show was on.. The show was completely innocent to a 6 year old, but I'm sure my parents (who, at the time, were my age now) 'got' the adult angle.. This is not the only 'rude' Rainbow episode.. funny as hell though.. heh
I saw this on tv and remember going into school and telling others about me and they didn't believe me! My little sister had been watching it. I couldn't believe all the innuendo and knew it had to have been done on purpose but everyone thought I was reading into it and no-one else I knew had seen it... until years later I saw it surface on the internet and knew I hadn't imagined it! Mind you it wasn't 1981 when i saw it because I remember being old enough to know what it meant (my little sis was oblivious) and that I was in secondary school. It was around 88, give or take a year, so I wonder, they must have accidentally repeated it in the UK.. which seems a bit mad. in 81 I was only 7 and my little sis was only 1 so I def didn't see it (or notice it if I did see it!) that time around. In fact, I bet if I go through my teenage diaries, I think I wrote about it
To clear up, this was a behind-the scenes treat for all the cameramen's hard work. Bit of a give away with "Have you got your twangers out?" and not the usual "Have you got your twangers out, kids" and a complete lack of the word "Kids" throughout.
Again - this *was not* broadcast. It was a private video made either for a Xmas party or a leaving crew member *not* for children. Besides which the humour *is* 100% innuendo. If you can't accept innuendo then you don't deserve to be called "sentient".

Yeah, the uploader could have made it clearer (or could still!). That is somewhat of a shame. The Uploader clearly knows where it comes from, it''s the top result when searching for 'Rainbow Christmas tape'. The tags must include 'Christmas Tape'. I guess the title and description are supposed to be clickbait. Hence all the idiots talking about sexualizing children and such...pity. Likely it's only Gen X-ers+ (I guess) like you and me who have 'gotten' the fact that it's clearly not trying to sexualize children, even if we didn't know of the Christmas Tape, we knew Rainbow and knew something was VERY WRONG when we saw this! lol...or RIGHT depending on your POV 🤣 I remember when I was first shown this, I was in stitches, I had no knowledge of the Christmas Tape, so I must have found out via the comments. But I didn't for a second think this was, legit, even before reading any comments! I mean Rainbow was something I watched constantly, 'this' was clearly not what I used to watch as a young child!!!
When fiber optic internet was being installed to new homes I was with my mate filling in for someone who was away for a few days and we had to feed these long cables from the multiport on the street to the side of the house, and when the cables would get stuck I would yell to him from down the street "OH OH I CAN'T GET IT IN SHOULD I TRY IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND"
Just genius, I don't know how many people who find this funny just _know_ it was a popular childrens TV program, but enjoy it anyway. But I must say, as a child of the 80's who actually watched it all the time, it's just genius. Well done guy's and the uploader. And RIP Geoffrey Hayes, David Cook, Peter Hawkins, Roy William Skelton and Violet Philpott. (these weren't all featured here, I think only Geoffrey. The others were previous members of the cast, but still part of the Rainbow family).
I've seen several explanations as to where this came from - and some have been close but not quite right. Every year, the VT editors of the major broadcasting companies (mainly the BBC and the ITV network stations) edited together a tape that was to be aired in each others Christmas parties. Initially, this started out as outtakes (fluffed lines, swearing, corpsing, exploding studio equipment etc.), and other things that were never aired and at the time usually believed to be wiped once the final edit of a programme was made. They became known as the annual Christmas Tapes. It started out as what we would now know as a blooper reel of the previous reel's fluffs and mistakes made by presenters - back then without their permission or often knowledge. In the '70s and '80s these tapes were eagerly anticipated by the staff of the broadcasting companies and as their popularity grew, some shows made "special" versions just for the tape, with the assumption that they would never be seen by the public. Some of these "specials" were normal BBC presenters doing truly outrageous things that would have been scandalous should they be seen by the public so the tapes for many years were kept very much in-house and under lock and key, once shown. SOME of these clips have made it into the public over the years on dodgy VHS copies from the original (probably sneaked out by staff) but I'm pretty sure not all of the tapes have been released in their entirety as some staff would never give their permission for their mistakes or "private performances" to be released (I do know that all the BBC Christmas Tapes still exist in their entirety - not sure about the ITV ones). As well as these shorts, only ever aimed at internal staff, there are some things that we would never have today were it not for the Christmas Tapes. For example, on the Fawlty Towers DVD one of the extras is a short collection of outtakes from the second series. This is straight off the Christmas Tape for 1979 and would never have been kept otherwise. DVD extras? Back then shows were made to be watched once when transmitted (possibly with a repeat later on in the year should it prove popular) and were often wiped once shown to recycle the then, comparitively very expensive video tape, and there certainly wasn't a market back then for outtakes. The concept of the Christmas tape eventually morphed into a more sanitised version called Auntie's Bloomers, hosted by Terry Wogan for a good number of years every Christmas on the BBC consisting of (mostly) BBC outtakes, by then WITH the permission of the person who made the bloopers.
Thank god for the internet. I first saw this online years ago after searching for it. I'd hard about it's existence as a schoolkid, and eventually saw it when I was in my twenties. Good to see it's still available for people to see.

Currently Zippy would be over qualified for the job.
#Zippyforpresident
Surely he's not needed - America is already run by a brightly coloured buffoon with a big mouth who spouts a lot of rubbish already.
:D
@@pjgathergood6987 I bet you think you're the worlds greatest comedy mind now, don't you ;)
As a kid I could never understand why Zippy, Bungle and George wore nothing during the day day but wore pyjamas in bed.
This is the best video on the internet
Just genius, I don't know how many people who find this funny just _know_ it was a popular childrens TV program, but enjoy it anyway. But I must say, as a child of the 80's who actually watched it all the time, it's just genius. Well done guy's and the uploader.
And RIP Geoffrey Hayes, David Cook, Peter Hawkins, Roy William Skelton and Violet Philpott. (these weren't all featured here, I think only Geoffrey. The others were previous members of the cast, but still part of the Rainbow family).
I've got a big red one! Is my notification tone on my phone. It goes off at the most inappropriate times 😃 👍
RIP Geoff, another part of our common childhood has gone now... :-(
Remember kids,
It’s only rude when you’re old enough to hear a different meaning 🤣
Spot on lol
This is such a gem, and I still gone back to it for a good laugh after discovering it 10 years ago
I laughed uncontrollably 2 days ago when I was introduced to this.
Did the writers even know what they where writing when they did this?
This was a Thames TV staff 'Christmas video tape' made privately which got leaked years and years later. Bet they had a right laugh. 😆
What the pluck did I just watch 😂😂
First thing when Heard that Geoffrey hayes had died was this vid Sleep easy Geoffrey
R.I.P. Geoffrey Hayes, i loved watching Rainbow when i was kid back in the '70's.
Wow the plot thickens. Taken me nearly 40 years to understand. I always knew their was something dodgy about that bear.
dunno how they got thru this without laughing, Geoffrey Hayes such a legend rip
Is it bad that I find this absolutely hilarious ans I showed all my friends and family? :)))

R.I.P Geoffery. Rainbow brought me great joy during the 1070's..
Thank god for the internet. I first saw this online years ago after searching for it. I'd hard about it's existence as a schoolkid, and eventually saw it when I was in my twenties. Good to see it's still available for people to see.
Guys, this was never broadcast. Y'all can calm down now.
Y'all? Hey y'all, I'm from Alabama!
Seriously dude, everyone already knows this, it's just funny to watch a crew like this chill out and have a laugh together. You should try it sometime : )
This is as old as the internet. iI remember downloading it on dialup and it taking 20 minutes to arrive
Gary McNaughton God yes - this and famous the Thundercats bloopers.
You could pluck away with your twanger and play with your balls while you waited for the download to finish.
Does anyone know if there's a better quality version of this anywhere? It's an absolute classic, and I've sent it to dozens of people, but it'd be great to unearth a higher quality version.
been 7 years and you haven’t found a solution i’m sorry :(
Someone needs to ai upscale this
