Your videos are amazing! Thank you so much for all the camp reviews as well. My husband and I are planning a trip to South Africa in July to do some overlanding and your reviews of the camps especially inside Kruger are so helpful. Keep up the great work!
I agree that is a stunning view as I've camped on that exact site. As I live in Natal, I've had the privilege of camping in quite a few Drakensberg resorts. Mountain Splendour is not far behind Hlalanati.
Camping in a tent in Mahai in mid winter cured me of tenting. After that 2001 winter We bought a on road caravan and Kruger Park saw us many times in all weathers. Having a fully enclosed tent attached to a caravan makes it a lot more comfortable in the rain.
Our friends and family laugh everything we go camping... because it always rains. We have some hilarious, campihg stories to tell. And that's a lot of money for a lot of problems (regarding your Conqueror trailer). Really enjoy your video's, thank you.
Awesome video Boet. Glad you headed to the northern Cape, heard there need more rain😁. I am sure you will bring some with you. Agree with you, it's all about attitude.
Hi Chris. Interesting video about the rain. Lessons learned from my side is when pitching your camp make sure you stand o level piece of area but not one where water cant flow away. I once did not notice that and after a night of good rain I stood in about 100mm of water. On my Companion I changed my Hansen Geyser to the 5,5L Camping Gas geyser. So far so good. I also now have more available space in my nosecone to pack odds and ends. Keep on sharing please. Paul
Hi Chris, we recently bought an Invader camper and went to Hlalanathi for our first trip in March. Stayed in the same number 4 site as you did. Magnificent views, but the problem is you can get extreme wind and rain as we did. Our tent section blew down on our first night, (partly due to being novices) But we have done 2 more trips since then with heavy rain during both, but we are still loving it. Kruger next month so holding thumbs on the rain! Enjoy all your videos!
Thanks David! A camper definitely makes it a little easier in bad weather. I’ve just put an awning on my car as well though so we’ll see how that goes 😉
Camping in the rain means you can finish reading your book. Also as a birder you can catch up with your notes and study your bird guide. And plenty of good wine for long afternoon naps!
@@GetOutGO I had my back-pack shipped over from NZ, I am set up for it. About to go see Opposite Lock about the fitout of my 76 series. Maybe we can do a video of it??
Hi Chris I’ve been to Halanathi too, I think my stand was #6. Beautiful view but I also had to leave due to heavy rain. I think it is a great resort but yes, they have funny rules for the booking. I also went to the pizza restaurant just outside the resort.
Beautiful areas that you showed us Chris. My item for rainy weather...bungy cords. Don't laugh. Strategically placed underneath an awning or gazebo you can prevent water from gathering and even direct where you want it to go. Setup dependent of course. Here is a suggestion for campsite owners/managers. Have a few treated and modified pallets available. If the weather forecast is bad have them on standby for campers to place under their groundsheets. Just so you don't have to stand and walk in water for days on end.
Good video Chris. I can imagine it must be tough to get content when it’s just raining but you did a great job. We’ve been to Mahai before over the December period. We had the afternoon shower for 15-20 minutes and then it cleared up too. A for sure highlight in the area are the rock pools only a 10 minute hike away. A longer complex hike takes you below the mountain inside a semi opened cave where there are pools. There is also a restaurant a few kilos away that serves the best pizza accompanied with a cold beer to make those hot days pleasurable. Thanks for reminding us of this spot. Cheers.
Thanks Ashley, yup, you can only show so much rain… like I mentioned, I think the hikes in the area are great (when it’s not raining) but the campsite definitely needs work
Great video content you giving us man. I like the camp reviews you giving, it's provide vital information for my family since we love camping. It rained when we were camping at the Vaal Emerald, we made fire (using our fire pit) under the gazebo and enjoy the sounds of rain; However it was bucketing like it was in your video
Nice to see a get out go video. My first rainy trip I had my deployed wrong and it collapsed from the weight of water pooling in it. Luckily it was a 20 dollar fix, so not too expensive a lesson
When the rain comes theres nothing more miserable for me than to sit in your tent or under your awning and wait. Although in game reserves it isnt too bad as at least you can drive around. You have a lot more patience than me though, by day 2 in the Drakensberg i would of lost my sense of humour and come home 😆. Great video nontheless!
Another beaut Chris:D Its great to see you pushing through the rain and finishing with some very beautiful country. How did the conqueror go in the rain; any leaks?

I agree the rapid development of rural housing opposite the valley is fast becoming an issue. However Hlalanathi remains one of the top family camping destinations in KZN. Camping in KZN is generally more costly than other provinces.
Wow. Must say, Christof. Thanks for your channel. We are serious followers. Tried to watch some other wannabees, but oh boy is that a disaster after watching you and your other musketeers channels. Just would like to see less of Edward in his video and more of the places he is visiting😁😁
Hi Benny! Hope you are well. Out of a 75 minute video I didn’t think that 15 minutes of me and 60 minutes of the places I visit and wildlife I see was a bad balance but thanks for the comment, and thank you for watching!
I really struggled with the first half of this trip so stick around 'till the end 😉
That drop into the Drakensberg Amphitheatre passing Sterkfontein Dam is an experience that never gets old for me! What a beautiful country ❤
It’s stunning! I definitely want to go back (when it’s not raining) to do it justice
Another awesome episode Chris!!!

Thanks Paul! I’ll have a look at changing the geyser but I’m looking to do it somewhere other than Conqueror Northgate
Thanks Chris. Enjoyed your video!
Mother nature definitely frowned upon you but the video was still very entertaining 👍 Thanks for posting.
Thanks Renier!

Very interesting. I like camping in the rain so long as the rain is over in a few hours.
Likewise, I don’t mind rain but not for 4 days solid, makes making good content very difficult!

I came back for a second viewing. The Drakensberg is on my list. I am from New Zealand, it rains so I can handle it.
I can highly recommend it especially if you’re into backpacking 👌 I will head back that way at some point to find more camping spots.

Yes, I think it’s expensive for what you get and as you say, unfair if you’re solo

Liking that camp chair Chris, nice high back compared to others I've seen
I used to use the low-back ones, this is much nicer 👍
What make is yours please Chris?
It’s from NatureHike www.naturehike.co.za

What brand is that ultralight camp chair 💺 and the French press Coffee Plunger ☕ 🤔
Thanks Tommy! The chair is from NatureHike and the coffee press from Stanley
Thanks much appreciated 👍

Thanks Chris! I use 2 x 150w Flexopower Mojave panels, 15a victron mppt contorler charging a 120ah AGM battery
The awning collects water.. so I sleep with one eye open to get the water off the awning.
The last time I was there I paid R850 for a 3 bedroom chalet....that camping rate is daft .
