    Rosy barbs got me into the hobby. They trash all my plants, yes even anubias, but their personality is really engaging, they school super well at times, and they love duckweed. I have them with wild type guppies with no issues, I moved the guppies out to a different tank and it made the rosy barbs hide. They were smart enough to notice their little buddies were gone and that upset and scared them, had to move some back in for happiness to return. They breed super easily too. Glad to see a profile on them!

    They sell these as feeder fish at my local aquarium shop. 10 for $15 (in Australia). I just got some, counted them and got an extra one! I've kept them before. The last ones I had lived for 6 years or so and got huge! along with tiger barbs.

    I have the long finned bright orange variety and the normal type. I will say I have a school of the basic type in a 75 gallon that had algae all over it. within 2 days they ate a significant amount of algae as they began munching away almost instantly when I added them too. I have them in there with a school of giant Dainios. My long fin orange ones are in a 40 octagon tall tank with a school of Panda cory's. Rosy barb's are defiantly a cool fish.

    These are great little Critters. I had mine go gang busters in my Outdoor pond, they bred, grew huge & very Healthy. I live in the Southern States of Australia so Winters get a bit too Cold outside so Im overwintering them all in a spare indoor aquarium we have & I think its much to thier distaste lol, they loved the outdoor pond.. Im definately looking into a Pond Heater for them & maybe leave them outside all year round.

    They kinda look like mini comet goldfish. haha

    • @V1kte
      @V1kte 3 года назад

      That's what I like about them! When I started considering getting a tank, my first thought was getting a comet goldfish, because to me those are prettiest goldfish there is. Then I did my research and found out that they need a huge tank. So then I was like, fine, I get a fancy variety. But they're like pugs of the fish world, with heavily modified clumsy bodies, and they still need frequent water changes. So now I'm considering longfin rosy barbs. Hopefully I can find them, because I only find 1 shop in my country that sells them and I don't know if they ship them to my city. Other shops have short fin variety, that looks too much like something I might catch in a pond.

    I recently got 5 rosy barbs and 5 neon rosy barbs in a tank with 9 danios and 5 corydoras. If you give them the right diet and keep their water clean they look amazing. They are very hardy fish, but if any one parameter is off their color will fade. I'm also having to do a lot more water changes. They are very active fish and grow fast. They get along great with the zebra danios. It makes for a very interesting tank. Always some kind of action going on.

    • @GurpreetSingh-je8fz
      @GurpreetSingh-je8fz 3 года назад

      the ones he showed are the worst i ve seen... its not his water parameters but the type of rosy barbs themselves are bad. The one i have are very ready and red till 7/8th of thier body side and that also that lil part which isn't red is yellow and at all green. maybe the breed matters as the ones he showed could be very misleading as they look so so dull

    They are an amazing fish, i got two adults. Unknown gendars (One is a fat gold one,and the other is a kind of red with a tiny strip of black on its top fin.) once they danced and did some strange behaviour on the filter, but now they just swim together. i wanted to school them up so i got two baby ones from a f eeder tank (unknown gendars) Many poeple have problems with ther's because nipping problems but for mine,No problem. i got a fully planted tank with (2 young rosy barbs,2 checkered barbs,2 cherry barbs,5 rummy nose tetras.

    Hi Cory I live in the UK and was hoping to set up a tote in my garden for the 2 months of summer!
    I have been studying weather patterns and the minimum drop in temperature recorded was 6 degrees Celsius (approx 42 degrees Fahrenheit).
    I was looking at a 120L tub with no filter just regular water changes.
    Do you think this would be ok for White Cloud Mountain minnows?
    Is there any other fish I could keep in an identical set up if I set up 2?

    I bought two pairs yesterday. My doubt is: the amazing red-orangeish color of the males are forever or just when they are able to breed? Rosy barbs used to be a "doh" fish for me... a black spot, silverish color...doh. Never saw such red-orange color on the fishes i bought. Thx in advance.

      Usually they should get more color intense as they age.

      Btw...i had some focus of black beard algae in my tank and the rosy barbs ate (?) or are pulling it out...Now they are pulling the java moss lol...well...are they plant destroyers too? :)
