Jeez at last! I found what kind of fish I bought at a local pet store. I wasn't paying full attention when I bought them along with some black skirt tetras, I thought they we're rasboras but upon searching the net I couldn't find any orange rasboras with single black spot on the tail until I saw this video. I was shocked it was a barb, I mean it was the same type of the tiger barb.
Great video - easily the best for Rosy Barbs breeding. We have established the same breeding tank setup as you - the barbs we’re in a communal tank prior. Do you really need to keep them in adjoining tanks for a week if the female looks ready to pop. I’m worried she’ll reabsorb the eggs.
No you don’t have to keep them separate at all. The reason I had them Separate was to show the difference between male and female in the video. They lay very morning so she won’t reabsorb the eggs. She will lay them. And make more each day.
So cool seeing the tiny babies! Great to find another Aussie on you tube. Can you tell me where you got the small square clear box from? I’ve been trying to find something like that for a terrarium. (It’s where you put the fish into the basket) New sub from NSW 🇦🇺❤️
Thanks for sharing the technique. I would like to see you breed blue acara. I suggest you should have a group of 10 very young fish. But think maybe 20 young fish would be a better purchase at local club auction?
I have a mini pond and I am thinking of adding some rosy barbs. Do you think they will breed by themselves? Or do I have to remove them from the pond. It have lots of plants so they fry can hide. Any suggestions?
If there are lots of places for the fry to hide they should be fine same as if there were in the wild. Just make Sure the water temp is between 18 to 26 Celsius. But for best results I’d say leave the adults in there for 10 days then remove them.
You ever tried keeping them outdoors? I have some that I bought as feeder barbs hoping my yabbies would eat them, but they are too fast for the yabbies. I wonder if they can breed unassisted in a pond, and also whether they will survive the winter.
@@ShepsAquatics drops to much colder than that where I'm at, winter maybe zero at the coldest, summer is fine though. I'll try again in summer, I currently have no barbs as they were getting big and nipping at goldfish, so it was time to feed them to the cichlids.
Do you know if they will breed without all that? I have 4 adult rosys in with my turtle and yabbies, they were brought as feeder fish, but the 4 adults are now 'dancing' and chasing each other but I don't have any plants. I do have guppies in a breeder box I'm hoping to breed
@@ShepsAquatics yes i think i have 3 pregnant atm. i got them all as feeders for my turtles anyway so bonus if they do breed! Im thinking of setting up a dedicated tank for breeding fish
Great video and information 😊👍🏻 I picked up some rosy barbs today and going to do a video on them lol
Im giving it a go starting tonight. Thank you
Hope it all works well for you

Isolating won't increase the egg yeild ? @@ShepsAquatics

Thank you. Most of the boxes and tubs I get are from discount stores. The small glass tanks are from a beta rack out of a shop
