  • We haven't just been testing one new MINI, but two! As well as the new Cooper SE hatchback, we have also spent a bit of time in the new Countryman E, the MINI for those of your who need maximum space. But can this medium-sized crossover really feel like a MINI? Bryan, the owner of a previous generation MINI Countryman, subjects it to the road test that actual car buyers trust when it comes to choosing their next electric car - the AutoEV one.
    AutoEV - all electric, all independent.

    This needs a bigger battery to be competitive for the price. It’s a core feature to the car and you go to the website and it isn’t mentioned. They are definitely not bragging about it. The interior looks nice but that head up display is woefully out of date. You want the head up display projected on the windshield. This car is about having something a little different and it’s okay to pay more for that, but they still need to get it right.

    I was really taken by the new MINI SE Countryman, but after contacting the dealer about its towing capacity, I found out that none of the MINI Countryman models available in Australia have a tow bar. Apparently, they didn't pass the Australian Design Laws, which is quite disappointing, especially considering that the Volvo XC40 and BMW iX1 & iX2 do. What did you prefer?

    I don't get the idea of ever bigger mini's.... the whole point on the car was that is was small ... it's what the name of the car literally meant... now we have the U25 based countryman mini that's 6cm longer than a Range Rover Evoque! Yes that right ... a mini is longer than evoke! Its only 3cm lower too, insane.
    The new countryman is a full 1.4m longer!, 22 cm taller and 64 cm wider than the original classic mini, how a car called a mini has become so f***ing massive is beyond me.

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  19 дней назад

      But that’s my point in the video. Mini is a brand now and they want people to remain with the brand. And of course, the small hatchback can’t be the same size as the original because of safety, and of course, people don’t want that anymore. So the point of the Countryman is to keep people buying from the same company as their needs change, ie, they have a family now, or a dog, or whatever they need a larger car for. If all they made was a small car, these customers would leave the brand and buy from someone else. So now MINI offer a product to keep those customers, and also to bring more prospects into the brand that wouldn’t have looked at MINI before because all they sold was a small, impractical 3 door hatchback.
      Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

    For an EV, that huge bonnet looks dumb. I know it’s because it has to fit an internal combustion engine also but if you are going for an electric SUVs there are so many better options out there.

    My first car was an 850cc Mini. I have owned several BMW made Minis but I felt they were becoming increasingly poor value for money for what they offered.
    It seems the base model of the Countryman E (costing just over £42k) does NOT get: heads up display, folding wing mirrors, adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights, wireless charging, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, heads up display, high beam assistance, heated front seats, comfort access (digital key features etc), sun-protection glass, sun-roof.
    I can find no reference to any of the models coming fitted with a heat pump. Do they?
    The warranty period is nothing special and my experience was that Mini servicing charges were rather high, though the customer care was always excellent.
    I wanted to love this car but I think it is far too expensive (especially the base model) whilst offering nothing special.

    I think you have called it well. As a previous MINI owner, I love this, but it’s too pricey. I am also not sure about the back end. Had a sit in showroom model and it’s banging on inside. If you don’t need the boot space, then Volvo EX30. This is also creeping into Tesla Model Y territory with a couple of basic options. That’s a hard sell. I would have Model Y every day….and it’s loads bigger, with all the great Tesla charging infrastructure and better range.

    The competition? When you want more space, greater range, more economical engine and you want to have a lot of money left over? A riddle for you: it starts with a T and ends on esla. Fantastic to see how at the end, from the otherwise good presentation, there is talk around the Tesla. Oops, now it’s no longer a riddle.

    £50K is way too much - unless you're prepared to pay for the badge/style - plenty do - I wouldn't - we have an EV6 and Niro EV - much better value and don't forget the 7 year warranty!

  • @glideman

    Who’s going to pay £5,000 more for a mini when you could get a Tesla Model 3? You could also get a Model Y for the same price 😮

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  27 дней назад +7

      I think they appeal to different people. I don’t see the Model 3 buyer considering the Countryman or vice versa to be fair. And in many ways, that why I said my verdict. I’m not sure the MINI will appeal to people who are just looking for a regular car. The Countryman is a bit more of a “heart” purchase than “head” purchase.

      Try 57k when fully spec'd. However I got an extended test drive for 24 hours and what impressed me most was the milage I got from it. I did a 30 mile trip, 50mph. The actual milage drop was 8 miles. Was getting 4.5. Gotta say, was impressed.

    I find the videos on this channel far too long. An hour in this case - really? I therefore wait for other channels to review a car, usually in 25-30 minutes.

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  26 дней назад +5

      I understand that some may find our videos lengthy and that is fine. They won’t be for everyone. But allow me to explain why we go into the detail we do, which results in these longer videos. AutoEV is a relatively small channel, and we exist in a very crowded space of automotive review channels. So how can we stand out against the Carwows of the world? By aiming our videos at actual car buyers. We don’t do quick reviews to gain subscribers and views, we go into great detail and give more in-depth information on the cars so that people who may be looking to purchase them can hopefully get everything they need before making that important decision. It’s a gamble, and as I say, it costs us views and subscribers, but it stands us apart in the RUclips space and gives us a lot of credibility with viewers and the manufacturers. Like I said, it’s not for everyone, and I do understand what you are saying. But it’s what we do to establish ourselves as a trusted source of information for real car buyers.
      I thank you for watching and taking the time to share your opinion and I do hope that you stick with us, but if not, I do understand. Thank you for your feedback.

    videos is much lower due to which your videos are not going in front of your targeted
    audience and lose most of viewers and video rank. So, if you want to solve this problem get
