I just received mine and took it out last week for a short over night hike. I'm 6' 250# (not your average hiker) and I have no complaints. Temps dipped into upper 40's and I had no cold spots and was warm and comfortable the whole night. Its well constructed and worth the money, I will take this over my ENO Double any day. Thanks for the review Shug it helped me make up my mind, and the discount wasn't to shabby either.
This hammock solves all of my previous hammocking issues, and thanks to your review and discount my dream swing showed up in the mail today! This bad boy is gonna be a game changer, thank you so much Shug.
Now you have the attention from this side/front/back/sideways/anyways I can/restless sleeper. Look forward to seeing how that Amok works out. I might give it a looksy!
Shug, I just ordered mine today!!! whoooo budddddyyy! Picked it up on a sale - 279 for the hammock and tarp...went with that burnt orange/red color :) - exped synmat 7 bought, 111 bucks on amazon...I AM SO EXCITED...this will be my second hammock setup and allow me to bring my wife hammock camping and my son along, which I did last year for an overnight trip, but had to borrow a buddy's gear. I am exactly 6 feet, so we shall see...
This looks fantastic. Some things I'd like to see just based on past usage - I'd like to see doors on the tarp like the Warbonnet Superfly where you could completely enclose yourself all the way to the ground to keep the driving wind at bay. The other thing that I'd like is to have that bug net go over the ridgeline or have a way to hang items (like a LED lantern) from the ridgeline with the bug net in place. Also, what is the minimum tree spacing that this unit will work with? Can the suspension points be right up against the buckles? How about the max length/spacing with the standard configuration? I'll check their website but I don't remember seeing those statistics.
+Dheere Crossing Woodworks Spacing specs are on the website. Basically 10 to 20 feet. You could get the buckles pretty near I reckon. Here is the tarp in a heavy rain. with ends turned in some......ruclips.net/video/ekn_PBsGB6c/видео.html
Hummm...really like this hammock. Different type of hammock all together....has a lot of nice features....well thought out....looks very comfortable and roomy....little storage compartment for the bug net......however I'm a little troubled that you can't put an under quilt under it. Might be good for summer and mildly cool weather .....but I'm not sure how it would do in really cold snowy weather with no under quilt.
Looks like a great thing for the many state parks we have around here. It is no heavier than the Hennessey I carry. At 6'1" and 195 to 205 depending on the time of year, I would fit. It would also lend itself well to weekends at the hunting lodge if one didn't wish to be trapped in the fart zone inside with the others.
***** You are entering the METHANE ZONE. No thanks!! Shug, may I call you Shug? You used the term squared away. Is that a Clown Boot Camp term as well as a military term? I understand a good deal of it could be burnt if one is in an area that allows fires and could be put in provided trash cans at parking areas between trails, but I enjoy your vids so much I just wanted your slant on things. Even more important than that to me is how did your fellow Hickory Brother lose sight in his left eye? That is being a bit nosey, but he seems like such a nice guy. Can you tell us?
Yep, it may be a bit heavy for long distance hiking, but for car camping, canoeing, biking, I can see some use in this. I've got my ENO system setup the way I enjoy it, but this is something Jan could use when we're traveling on vacation. I think she'd love it.

Hey shug...would it be possible if you could demonstrate hanging an Amok hammock with a car camping stand?...they don't make that hammock stand anymore that you did a video on a few years back.
Shug you mention shoulder squeeze, what about pressure points on the legs/knee, I often encounter some pressure on the side of either food depending on which side I lay towards when laying diagonaly in the hammock. Any chance we can get an episode on how to avoid this?

+shugemery I look forward to that video shug, I am here in Finland the country version of the place not the Minnesota one, so I am planning to try and get out in the winter. Anyway love the channel and thanks for the info and entertainment.
Looking at getting one of these, will use my kelty tarp i have the large one, i have a pad so i will be set. i dont do much back packing so weight is not an issue. thanks for the discount also shug... nice review, looking forward to seeing you review this in a live camp setting.
Hi, Shug. This teacher is buggin' out of TN for Lake MI this summer. Best spot on Fisherman's Island. My Q: can I put the Synmat HL Duo in there? Reason I ask is that I couldn't wait when the Amok arrived so I stuffed the Klymit Double V (I know, I know... not the right pad) in there so I could enjoy a Friday evening reveling in my life savings. So I'm over at the REI super special amazing sale of a lifetime and thinking if I can get the Duo... (no, it's not on sale. Everything else in my cart is, though. See the logic? ...Me, too.)
Hi Shug, love your reviews - any chance you have or may have the opportunity to share your wisdom on using the Amok Draumr 3.0 in a tree less setup? Thanks
+shugemery Sweet stand - I'll keep that in mind for car camping - however what I was wondering was out in the sticks solutions particular to the Dramur 3.0 You are very quick on the draw today - Thanks
+Bernie Palmer Well......reckon you could lay iy on the ground and get inventive. There are some other solutions......www.tiggzcraftworkz.com I can't speak to if it would work with this hammock. I always plan trips to wooded areas!
Great demo of a product I had seen, but not looked at now I can see its potential. Myself it would be great for at home or the cottage/car camping. A hammock my grandma would use. Not that these are bad things at all. Or perfect for the eternal fiddler. Those who are never satisfied and love fiddling away with tarps and ridge lines. I definitely think you've done this product a service and are helping it step into the spotlight. A great preview and look forward to see its travels.
Bob Gonzales The fly needs those extensions over head and feet. Maybe a large tarp. Need more length head to foot as opposed to a regular hammock tarp....www.amokequipment.com/unitedstates-greentarp
Thanks for another great gear review Shug... never seen that style before. Hanging perpendicular to a regular hammock sure seems to reduce the required distance between trees. Would be nice to have that option in heavily wooded areas near me. Shug, can you ballpark the minimum distance to hang this?... You said you're 6', that looks almost as wide as you are tall. If it's 6 that reduces my minimum distance by around 50%, opening up a lot of new hanging options for me. Not the lightest like you said but a good contender if you have pads and aren't invested in quilts yet. Thanks!
Hey Shug , do you know what the distance is on the buckle clearance as i have a concave tarp but it is 2.2meters in the middle if that would just cover the buckles it would be pucker pie's ! it is a loverly 3.9 long so would be sweet for the foot and head clearance. Always look forward to your uploads . Whoooooo . . .
This looks well done. Unfortunately, like the Exped Ergo Combi, it is not made for those of us above 6' tall. This seems very well thought out. Thanks for the review Shugmeister.
Wow. Lots of features! This would be a great campground hammock or, as you said, for short backpacks. Looks they thought of all the little things. Thanks for the looky
this is now my dream hammock lol, I can't sleep well when laying down leveled, I don't mind the extra weight so this is perfect! just gotta wait a decade or so to be able to afford it XD
Hello, I have a question for you. I am really curious to know how you did the suspension of the hammock in the beginning of the video. I have an idea and this looks the simplest way to do it.
When it was up way in the trees? Just suspended it from a pole and pulled it up with some line. You can see the pole I used at :11 in to keep to hammock open for that opening shot. Otherwise when I hang this hammock I just use the suspension that comes with the Amok.
Shug! Shug! When you laid back the foot box to sit in the hammock, was the inflatable pad still in place? I would have thought it would be a little difficult to bend a fully inflated pad like that. I am not trying to be snarky, just asking because, I really think this a superior hammock system and I'm on verge of buying one. One other question; is there enough room to stuff extra jackets or soft gear in the lower inflatable pad area? How tight is the pad in the slot? I was thinking if there is enough room around the pad, I could order some Lamilite from wiggys.com and make a insulation bag for the pad to fully insulate the bottom for really cold winter camping. In your experience, how does the Amok compare in weight / performance to other hammocks you have used. Would you recommend this a a guy's first ever hammock? Oh, by the way, my wife and I have agreed that if we ever have another baby boy, we are going to name him.......SHUG!
Yes the pad is still in there. It works fine. Sometimes I let a bit of air out. It is a heavy hammock. I have a few other videos on it if you search my site. You can toss jackets and such right in the hammock with you. Depending on the type of pad you use room varies in the pad slot. www.amokequipment.com/sleepingpads Make sure to read up on it on their website before odering. It gets tight on most folks over 6'2". www.amokequipment.com It is different from all my other hammocks. Just a whole different thing.
Thanks for your prompt reply. What do you think about making an insulation bag for the pad. It might be a simple solution for cold weather camping. If you haven't checked out wiggys.com yet, you might find that he has great insulated gear for even the Arctic. Your videos are informative and a nice balance of wacky and serious. Keep'em coming! P.S. Would this sleeping bag work with your hammock? www.wiggys.com/sleeping-bags/super-light-hammock-sleeping-bag-center-zip/
@@richardflaherty2373 as Shug says these hammocks have to be used with pretty thick air core mattresses that specifically have longitudal tubes for support. When he jack knifed it at the knee joint it was partially deflated and hence less rigid. What i don't understand about this is how would you use it in tropical conditions where you would normally dispose of the associated traditional mattresses and underquilts to allow for improved body heat convection and better laminar air flow cooling? That to me is the achiles heel of this design. Perhaps the manufacturer could offer stiffening rod pockets that run parallel with the main mattress pocket. These could be made of either fibreglass or aluminium and inserted or removed as required. The downside is of course that you could not use it in the upright postion but it would at least allow you to use a much more comfortable, thinner and lower tog mattress in hot and high humidity situations. As a footnote i would think it would be quite difficult to get into this hammock if it was stiffened in this fashion as a traditional hammock is entered from the side and rolled into by the action of positioning and weight transfer. One possible solution with stiffening rods would be some kind of lockable hinging pivot arrangement which allowed for getting in and out. I would have expected more versatility at this this price point as this seems to be very much a cold weather hammock in its current configuration.
For hiking, ill stick to the hammock set-up i have right now. This just weighs too much. That being said...i would absolutely use this for car camping. It looks comfortable...and perfect for lounging around camp. I really like the design. I would definitely be interested in getting one of these at some point.
I think the best part of this video is watching you run so much water, for so long, and just letting it soak into the ground. Can't do that out here on the left coast!
Shug, I'm with you, I love this hammock system. I wish I could afford one. However, the true test is whether one can balance something on their nose while playing a mandolin in recline mode. That's the REAL test. Take care!
think this would work for winter camping, like a tent just off the ground and the weight penalty isn't as bad using the pulk bring a good sleeping bag and your warm and off the ground. im not gonna give up my blackbird and being 6' 6" and over its weight limit by a bit I like the innovation in the hammock industry thanks for sharing shug
Amazing attention to detail, and no doubt labor intensive in construction. However I like the KISS of a Warbonnet hammock, and the lighter weight of the WBBB is a plus also. I don't like using a pad with a hammock setup so I'll stay with an under quilt set up.
Hello, would a Big Agnes's Pad work for this application? The tube type would be kinda chilly on the posterior me thinks??!! KOOL design though. Wouldn't want to be out with any pranksters!
Very interesting. I sleep in several positions so this might be for me. I'm waiting to free up the funds for my first hammock. I do most of my camping by ATV so weight isn't an issue. I'd be real interested in how low of temperature you could camp in with no underquilt.
I just picked this up and when I set it up the first time in my backyard with a big Agnes insulated air core lw pad, I went right to the ground. I'm 6'2" and 235lbs. I noticed when you sat down there was no give in the straps. Could it be my trees weren't strong enough or am I too big for the Draumr
I dunno... One thing I like about hammocks so much is their simplicity. And this thing seems... quite complicated. And heavyweight too. Great review though, thanks!
Jeff Obrien Hey Jeff, Simply light makes a 12 foot gathered end hammock called the Treerunner DL. In the the proper nylon (call Jared) I am sure you would be happy! Very affordable also...Nothing fancy, just darn comfy one you find the sweet spot by adjusting your ridgeline! Excellent quality and the best customer service I have ever seen. Happy Hanging!
shug, you are the king, but hi, you already know that. It seems to me that this is a good solution for tight square spaces, where a full size, 11 inch hammock won`t fit. Is it so? What other options are there for small spaces?(..like i am thinking camper van), Mini bridge? (to shorten the hammock)
+René Pohanka (Pseudomagick) Here are the recommendd pads....www.amokequipment.com/sleepingpads Needs a tube style pad. Reckon you can use it wherever there are trees!
I would just have it on the ground next to me under the tarp as I always do. Sits on a small piece of plastic. Cover with pack cover. ruclips.net/video/IXkzajtQTvA/видео.html
I like it. If they did a light weight version, and there are elements that could be swapped for lighter options, I'd seriously buy one today. I can sleep in a regular hammock but I do move around a lot and prefer sleeping on my side and front and this is clearly better for that.
Have you tried this on the Frozen butt hang ? Then again , I've seen the last 3 , so I guess that's a no. Do you plan on trying this on a frozen camp ? Looks like the foot area doesn't leave much room for insulation. But it sure looks comfortable. Peace
Take my money! Hahaha - thanks Shug! I am intrigued I must say. I go kayak camping and that looks too fun not to consider. I have a WB XLC and UQ for it and superfly - I'll need another setup for trips with my wife and kids so Santa - hey - are ya listening?! How cold does it sleep you to comfortably?
That is certainly an interesting design and it's clear a lot of thought and planning has gone into it - certainly makes a change from some gear. Thanks for sharing.
I love it- would purchase- BUT I really wish they had an attached rain fly that was in with the mosquito netting - in case you can't or don't want to set up the tarp- so it has everything you need self contained no separates.
Looks like something a Cirque du Soleil performer would use. : ) Just when I thought I have seen it all. It sure does look comfy, almost like a lazy boy of the woods. Thanks for the info Shug!
Hey there! just stumbled on this and am really liking it! I have tried many hammocks and am a side stomach sleeper... I settled on a Jacks-R-Better bridged and modified it to make it more stable... JRB comes in at 3 lbs so this just a touch lighter... I just got a 12' x 8' Cuban Fiber tarp for the JRB and am wondering if it would be big enough for the AMOK or in your opinion or should I order it with the tarp that comes with it? (I could save over a lb with the cuban fiber) 12' should be long enough head to foot and it looks like 8' wide should cover sideways but hard to tell on the vid...
Gotcha I may have to add a triangle piece to the sides of my cuben fiber tarp then I ordered the hammock and the tarp this morning so I get to play with it. I would like to make it lighter but such is the game. Happy Trails my friend and thanks for getting back to me.
That is a very intriguing design, I look forward to seeing you mess around with it, Shug. I'd be curious to see how well you sleep in it compared to your typical gathered end hammocks. Unlucky for me, I have heavily invested in a Therm-a-rest Neo Air All Season, which is incredibly warm, light, and compact - and also quite expensive for a pad. It has the horizontal baffles that they recommend against, though. Rats!
Shug Ok so I have a WBBB XLC with winter cover and love it! Ordered a WB sock for it. Its been my go 2 hammock for years! I been looking to buy a second hammock for occasional car trips or trips where weight is of minimal concern. The Amok looks like it will fit the bill. I am deciding between a WBRR and the Amok. Any thoughts on which you like better?
HI, SO NOW THAT YOU HAD A CHANCE TO SLEEP IN THE HAMMOCK FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS WHAT DO YOU THINK? LOOKS COMFORTABLE. VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE NORM! LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS! GOD BLESS! BE SAFE! HAVE FUN! SMILE!
Hi Shug, trying to decide whether or not to buy this hammock or the Dutch Chameleon- I can only afford 1! I live in the Northwest (Washington) and we get a lot of rain, so I am worried about staying dry. Also, I backpack and cover 5-10 miles during an average day while hiking, is the Amok too heavy for serious backpacking? Finally, in cold weather, with snow, does this hammock work with a normal 11-12' ridge line tarp? It seems with the design you would get a lot of wind coming in on you from the side! Thanks, Fred
Amok depends on a pad for shape. Is a bit heavy. I have used it with my Warbonnet Superfly 11' tarp. Seems your leaning towards Chameleon. Go with your gut.
Came back for the Amok Re entry intro , so smooth like landing a plane :) I like my 3.0 the XL is a bit Big but if i had a pogo stick it would be another matter . early!
Hummm, looks interesting. I like the bugnet built-in like it is. To bad they didn't have an overcover stashed on the other side, instead of the bugnet on a windy night. My dream hammock has this option and I like it very much. My overcover has a solid cover all but the very end being bugnet for venting.I also have just a bugnet. Something like that on the Amok would be nice I think. Nice video Shug and I like the hammock,or should I say Amok. Im going to check them out.To one of your followers,Dream Hammock makes double layer hammocks for heavier payloads.up to 500lbs if I remember right.Ariverdachi.
Interesting design. As "radical" as the WBBB and Hennessy are to a standard, gathered-end hammock is, this is down right "alien". Not that it is bad, but seems more complicated with more to go wrong. I'm interested in how it performs on a regular basis out in the woods. Thanks for the review.
Does anyone ever see an older version of this for sale? I looked around and couldn't find one used, I'd love to find one since my back won't allow me to sleep on the ground anymore.
Great video. Tough decisions to replace my Hennessey that is for sure. Originally I was sold on the blackbird xlc, now not so sure. You are making this tough. (best scenario is buy two or three more hammocks lol)
That looks like an exceptionally well thought out design. Thanks for showing us. As much as I like my blackbird, I might have to give that a try (when the tall version comes out)
Hi Mr. Shug! I have a friend who has the Amok but a couple of the seams in the tubes of the pad he used came undone and he said it was about $140 to replace the pad! Do you know of a cheaper pad that would work for the Amok? Thanks for your reply! 😉 Mark in Texas!

Hey shug...could you do a short video...on using a Cuban fiber tarp from hammock gear and maybe a Sm wal mart tarp...so I could see if it would work?
I have a vid on HG cuben fiber but I don't have a Walmart tarp.
Shug,
If Jonas over at Amok needs to experiment with someone 6'5 and 245 lbs I'm all in.. Lots of cool stuff to fiddle with. Nice set up for 10 to 15 mile loops ( tad heavy ) .Excellent choice for canoe trips or ATV camping

Yes, I got rid of the heavy straps and replaced it with whoopie slings, they work great!
I thinks so...baffles run the correct way. Maybe contact AMOK to be 100% sure.
Hi Shug, love your reviews - any chance you have or may have the opportunity to share your wisdom on using the Amok Draumr 3.0 in a tree less setup?
Thanks
+Bernie Palmer I have hung mine on my portable hammock stand. See it a 15 minutes in on this video...ruclips.net/video/LQLwdnylI9s/видео.html
+shugemery Sweet stand - I'll keep that in mind for car camping - however what I was wondering was out in the sticks solutions particular to the Dramur 3.0
You are very quick on the draw today - Thanks
Bushcraftcambridge Thankee....it has a place in the hammock world for sure. easy to set up.
You should look at the tree tent tensile tent things those could maybe have a good group hang application I am not sure
wildairsoft1 That does not interest me that much. It looks HUGE!
+shugemery true and heavy but they are still cool haha
AMOK DRAUMR 3.0 Shug is the rain fly needed or will others work on it due to the unique shape
Thanks!
From their website....Tree distance: minimum 2.5 m, maximum 6 m......so roughly 8 feet.
www.amokequipment.com/usd-green-hammock
Hey Shug , do you know what the distance is on the buckle clearance as i have a concave tarp but it is 2.2meters in the middle if that would just cover the buckles it would be pucker pie's ! it is a loverly 3.9 long so would be sweet for the foot and head clearance. Always look forward to your uploads . Whoooooo . . .
i don't know for sure. reckon you need to eyeball it.....6' maybe?
This looks well done. Unfortunately, like the Exped Ergo Combi, it is not made for those of us above 6' tall. This seems very well thought out. Thanks for the review Shugmeister.
TraditionalFun He did some nice design on it towards a certain consumer. Mighty fine.
Looks comfy, but that pack size seems a bit big. My Warbonnet slims down well in a compression sack, how about this one?
Neat concept, but i like the side to side cradle rock of a regular hammock. I wonder if the head to toe rock would get me sea sick.
starshipfantastica It has a nice side to side sway too. No sea-sick here...makes me smile.
Wow. Lots of features! This would be a great campground hammock or, as you said, for short backpacks. Looks they thought of all the little things. Thanks for the looky
KuntryRD It is well designed and a whole different hammock for sure.
this is now my dream hammock lol, I can't sleep well when laying down leveled, I don't mind the extra weight so this is perfect! just gotta wait a decade or so to be able to afford it XD
I think they are cool and different.
It cost $239.95.... very affordable... If you work...
@@justinbain2030 it's over 500 for the whole hammock including air pad and tarp
Hello, I have a question for you. I am really curious to know how you did the suspension of the hammock in the beginning of the video. I have an idea and this looks the simplest way to do it.
When it was up way in the trees? Just suspended it from a pole and pulled it up with some line. You can see the pole I used at :11 in to keep to hammock open for that opening shot. Otherwise when I hang this hammock I just use the suspension that comes with the Amok.
shugemery So a pulley suspension system? Can one be created to lift a few hundred pounds? So you could be in the hammock 30ft in the air?
I have never tried.
shugemery Oh no thank you, just seeing you do that so cool and helpful. Though if I may ask what did you use to make it work?
Shug!
Depending on the type of pad you use room varies in the pad slot. www.amokequipment.com/sleepingpads
Make sure to read up on it on their website before odering. It gets tight on most folks over 6'2".
www.amokequipment.com
It is different from all my other hammocks.
Louie Cascella It is a pretty good ride. Hooked once you try one!
I think the best part of this video is watching you run so much water, for so long, and just letting it soak into the ground. Can't do that out here on the left coast!
***** Sorry to hear that.
***** Well, thank you for the kind words AND the videos!
***** I am hoping CA gets a good soaking for sure. Droughts blow.
Shug, I'm with you, I love this hammock system. I wish I could afford one. However, the true test is whether one can balance something on their nose while playing a mandolin in recline mode. That's the REAL test. Take care!
Survivalist2008 I must try that.
Hey Shug...could you replace the straps with Amsteel(and whoopie slings?...to scrape weight?)
Anything is possible I reckon. I will stick with it as is.
think this would work for winter camping, like a tent just off the ground and the weight penalty isn't as bad using the pulk bring a good sleeping bag and your warm and off the ground.
im not gonna give up my blackbird and being 6' 6" and over its weight limit by a bit
I like the innovation in the hammock industry
thanks for sharing shug
Erik Giggey There is room for all hammocks in my World. Thankee.
Amazing attention to detail, and no doubt labor intensive in construction.
However I like the KISS of a Warbonnet hammock, and the lighter weight of the WBBB is a plus also. I don't like using a pad with a hammock setup so I'll stay with an under quilt set up.
Just another option. Really not complicated. No more than a war bonnet for a new hammocker.
Hello, would a Big Agnes's Pad work for this application? The tube type would be kinda chilly on the posterior me thinks??!!
KOOL design though. Wouldn't want to be out with any pranksters!
I don't think so....www.amokequipment.com/sleepingpads
We do car camping a lot. That would be a great hammock.
And you did an outstanding review/video on it.
Richie95 Thankee thankee.
Thank you for taking the time to give a full review.
Y'elcome and Whooooo Buddy))))
Very interesting. I sleep in several positions so this might be for me. I'm waiting to free up the funds for my first hammock. I do most of my camping by ATV so weight isn't an issue. I'd be real interested in how low of temperature you could camp in with no underquilt.
TruckerJDub It would be dependant on the pad.....ruclips.net/video/fJDdy4VRfrg/видео.html
Check your cinch buckles and tie a slippery half hitch behind the buckle. Is it the Amok 3.0?
They are rated to hold 330 pounds.
I dunno... One thing I like about hammocks so much is their simplicity. And this thing seems... quite complicated. And heavyweight too.
Great review though, thanks!
< ENO sub 7 and 1800# mule tape. That's pretty simple, but not everyone can take a pack aminal on the trail.
Thanks shug.. used my WoooBuddy discount and got my AMOK 3.0 ordered last night. looking forward to spending many nights in comfort.
Kent Casey May you enjoy some good times in it.
I would love to try a hammock instead of tent but I'm 6' 9" 350# and I don't have many options from what I could find
Jeff Obrien Check out Warbonnet blackbird hammocks--I think they go up to 7' and 400lbs
jjdubuyou1976 hey thank you I will definitely look into it
Jeff Obrien Hey Jeff, Simply light makes a 12 foot gathered end hammock called the Treerunner DL. In the the proper nylon (call Jared) I am sure you would be happy! Very affordable also...Nothing fancy, just darn comfy one you find the sweet spot by adjusting your ridgeline! Excellent quality and the best customer service I have ever seen. Happy Hanging!
I'd buy one right now, this very instant.... But I'm 6'3". Will keep an eye out for other models. Thanks Shug!
Jason Christian Jonas says a longer version will be available in time.
Hey Shug!
Great vid. Wonderful first look. I have a DD hammock and the bug net is difficult to see threw. How is it in the Amok?
+Ray Konold Very easy to see out. Look at the very end of this video....ruclips.net/video/ekn_PBsGB6c/видео.html
Hey! Great. i didn't notice that the first time threw. Thanks again, Shug.
shug, you are the king, but hi, you already know that.
It seems to me that this is a good solution for tight square spaces, where a full size, 11 inch hammock won`t fit. Is it so?
What other options are there for small spaces?(..like i am thinking camper van), Mini bridge? (to shorten the hammock)
+gulu m Better to go with a shorter gathered end than bridge.
Will you be doing a cold weather test of this hammock? I'm curious to see how it performs in colder weather.
I shall though it all comes down to the pad used.
OK straight up that thing looks cool. Great review Shug!
It is a fun hammock to have. Like a Sunday driving car.
If the hammock needs longitudinal stiffness from an air mattress, what kind of insulation is suggested for cold weather?
An air mattress with a higher R Value.
R Value of 6 equals about -13F or -25C.
And of course appropriate sleeping bag or top quilt and clothing.
Hi Shug, I would value your opinion on a comparison between this one and the Hennessy hammock? Great review! Thank's, Ossie
+Ossie Weinert They are two very different hammocks.......one is gathered end then the Amok depends on a specific pad to function.
Hi!
I have some questions...
Can I use self-inflatable mattress?
Is this hammock suitable in the Amazon jungle?
Thanks.René
+René Pohanka (Pseudomagick) Here are the recommendd pads....www.amokequipment.com/sleepingpads
Needs a tube style pad.
Reckon you can use it wherever there are trees!
Hi Shug, what about when it's raining & keeping your kit dry, like your bergan/rucksack
I would just have it on the ground next to me under the tarp as I always do. Sits on a small piece of plastic. Cover with pack cover.
ruclips.net/video/IXkzajtQTvA/видео.html
I dig it shug. It's nice to see something different.
aricschannel1 I agree...it really is something different. That makes it fun for me.
I like it. If they did a light weight version, and there are elements that could be swapped for lighter options, I'd seriously buy one today. I can sleep in a regular hammock but I do move around a lot and prefer sleeping on my side and front and this is clearly better for that.
apsilonblue It is built like a Mercedes.....
Missed this for some reason -.😁 -I agree. Even more with the 5.0 UL XL
Too right~!
Wonder how warm this would be in the summer since the mat is required. They're only $199 now. Very competitive.
Not too bad even though their pad is rated to about 34ºF.
Where are the thrusters? Does it go past warp 3? The cloaking device looks more like a mosquito net. I always knew Shug was from outer space!
+Rush Yahr I am the thruster and we go to Warp 0......
lol
Have you tried this on the Frozen butt hang ? Then again , I've seen the last 3 , so I guess that's a no. Do you plan on trying this on a frozen camp ? Looks like the foot area doesn't leave much room for insulation. But it sure looks comfortable.
Peace
+Bryan Resch My pad goes down to my feet. I will try it later in the winter on a trip. Maybe March.
How cold can you go with just that pad, and how would you augment for colder weather?
Depends on the pad or pad combo. We shall see.
***** perhaps one of those Exped downmats would be perfect for below 20 degrees. They are supposed to be the bee's knees for ground sleeping
Warmth depends on the pad and r-rating you use.
I have looked at several of your youTube videos and I am curious to know which hammock that you would choose to take with you on the AT?
+Charles Marsh Any gathered end hammock will do...Warbonnet, Hennessy, Dutchwaregear. Decide if you want netting.
That is certainly an interesting design and it's clear a lot of thought and planning has gone into it - certainly makes a change from some gear.
Thanks for sharing.
Wolf NZ Outdoors The recline position is awesome. Yes, I typed awesome.
I love it- would purchase- BUT I really wish they had an attached rain fly that was in with the mosquito netting - in case you can't or don't want to set up the tarp- so it has everything you need self contained no separates.
That would be tough to do. You couuld always keep the tarp in a tarp snakskin.
Looks like something a Cirque du Soleil performer would use. : )
Just when I thought I have seen it all. It sure does look comfy, almost like a lazy boy of the woods.
Thanks for the info Shug!
CampfireTalk It is like a Lazy Boy in the trees. Ever-so cool. Very different and I'm smiling whilst in it.
Hey there! just stumbled on this and am really liking it!
Their tarp has a 10' ridgeline so you may be a bit less protected on the sides. www.amokequipment.com/usd-green-tarp
May work though...
Gotcha I may have to add a triangle piece to the sides of my cuben fiber tarp then I ordered the hammock and the tarp this morning so I get to play with it. I would like to make it lighter but such is the game. Happy Trails my friend and thanks for getting back to me.
Ingenious! I'm impressed.
Chris Jackson Me too!
An off topic question... What are the Salomon shoes/boots you were raving about in one of your videos a while back? (I couldn't (re)locate it) Thanks.
OldePete Salomon Quads they are
***** Thank ye
have you ever looked at the vertex hammock by clark jungle hammock?
i have one and iam haveing trople figering it out
Very clever design! Also, this video made me realize how much you look like a young Gene Hackman...must be the hat.
Shug Popeye Doyle!
Rats!
ColoradoCamper I did sleep out in it. Very comfortable. Different than gathered but like floating.
Shug
Ok so I have a WBBB XLC with winter cover and love it!
They are two very different hammocks. AMOK requires a pad for shape. WBRR does not.
I like them all and own all so I reckon I am of no help::::::::
Yes I know they are. Used a WBRR on a trip and loved it! Might get the Amok for short hikes or car trips. Love your videos!
HI,
SO NOW THAT YOU HAD A CHANCE TO SLEEP IN THE HAMMOCK FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS WHAT DO YOU THINK? LOOKS COMFORTABLE. VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE NORM! LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS! GOD BLESS! BE SAFE! HAVE FUN! SMILE!
David Stillman I slept 10 hours....that ought to tell!
YES IT DOES MAYBE A XMAS PRESENT?
Thanks Shug, Chameleon it is!
Now that is a cool design. If I had the money I would get one of those.
WickedShots Whooooo Buddy))))
Would the hammock gear Cuban fiber tarp...work well with the Amok?
It it is at least 10' wide it would with some tweaking.
At least with the AMOK 3.0
ruclips.net/video/gG-pg-6en1E/видео.html
So does it weigh in close to 5lds with tarp, pad and everything?
223rocks Yessir....
Hey shug...what liteweight tarp would recommend for the Amok 3.0?...to provide plenty of coverage?
Warbonnet Super fly works good....ruclips.net/video/gG-pg-6en1E/видео.html
Why not use their tarp?
Omg I love this fricken hammock, looks really comfortable and better sleeping than the traditional one. I'm getting one for sure!!!
Came back for the Amok Re entry intro , so smooth like landing a plane :) I like my 3.0 the XL is a bit Big but if i had a pogo stick it would be another matter . early!
This may be helpful from the Amok guys....drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dKFyVqlRS5JjJ3d3AIwwQJUUOAh_OA2x
EARLY....I keep going back and forth between 3.0 and XL...still mulling.
Whooooo .....................................................Buddy
I want one of these soooooo bad!!!! I wish I had a money tree. Thanks for the review!
+Shorty Lesser Thankee
They've come way down in price i picked up a demo model for 120
I can't imagine what your neighbors thought was going on with your rainstorm. Ah....who cares. Nice review and keep 'em coming!
timtrain35 They don't even blink anymore. They have a robot lawn mower!
Hummm,looks interesting.
I like the bugnet built-in like it is.
To bad they didn't have an overcover stashed on the other side,
instead of the bugnet on a windy night.
My dream hammock has this option and I like it very much.
My overcover has a solid cover all but the very end being bugnet
for venting.I also have just a bugnet.
GEN2-X Yessir. Who knows, they may add it.
Elvis Mikel Time will tell with this beast.....
Do you think you can put a regular underquilt on the draumr for colder season?
Still need a pad to hold the hammock shape. You could rig a UQ under the pad if you are inclined to try. Or use a pad with a higher R-Value.
@@shugemery thanks! I'll get my draumr XL in next April, so I'll give a try with a home-made underquilt (older sleeping bag... ;) )
They just started taking preorders on their Draumr xl, next April can't come soon enough 😭
It is really nice and I'll be posting my looky-see of it soon.
Does anyone ever see an older version of this for sale? I looked around and couldn't find one used, I'd love to find one since my back won't allow me to sleep on the ground anymore.
Maybe on hammockforums.net or eBay....
Looks like something out of a sifi movie!Cool looking and high teck
+Travis S It has an alien vibe....
Great video. Tough decisions to replace my Hennessey that is for sure. Originally I was sold on the blackbird xlc, now not so sure. You are making this tough. (best scenario is buy two or three more hammocks lol)
True. Owning a few is the way to go!
That looks like an exceptionally well thought out design. Thanks for showing us. As much as I like my blackbird, I might have to give that a try (when the tall version comes out)
scott polly Cool to hear. He designed his dream hammock. He has good dreams.
Hi Mr. Shug! I have a friend who has the Amok but a couple of the seams in the tubes of the pad he used came undone and he said it was about $140 to replace the pad! Do you know of a cheaper pad that would work for the Amok? Thanks for your reply! 😉
Mark in Texas!
I use the REI Stratus and Exped Downbeat XP 9. Not cheap.
The pad is the support and warmth for the Amok.
