I think the timing of this is very important. The 2500 people who were gathered at Bountiful had gotten there because of personal revelation. The 12 apostles did not just show up there by accident. Jesus did NOT show up just after the storm - it was in the "ending of the thirty and fourth year" (3 Nephi 10:18) so, much time had passed. We know he had a 40 day ministry in the NT just after he died, so it is at least 40 days, but it is more likely that it is near the end of that year. Also, right after he goes away, we see that the year is over (4 Nephi 1).
The experience of those on the first day who came by revelation was a second comforter experience, one-by-one. This is an experience that we can have in this life; we do not need to wait to die to have this experience (John 14:16-23; D&C 130:3). The people who came on the second day did not have the same experience - they mostly watched, and were taught by the apostles, not by the Lord. Obviously, not all of the people that needed to be there were close by; this gave them time to get to Bountiful as they were inspired. There are many things that we can learn from this reading of the scriptures, I think.

I understand what it means to hear and not understand. Years ago I was kneeling next to one of my children at the doctor's office singing to him to keep him distracted while his head was being stitched up. All finished, the doctor turned his back to me to clean up while giving me verbal instructions. I began to stand and the adrenaline that kept me going during the ordeal must have run out. I remember sitting back down on the floor and hearing the doctor's voice and not understanding a word of what he was saying. I later asked a nurse to repeat to me what his instructions would have been. I have often reflected on that experience and thought of the people who heard the voice yet did not understand.

It means a lot to me to be able to turn these Come Follow Me episodes on and listen to you guys share these beautiful truths of our Savior. Especially when going through intense struggles. I too look forward to that day when I can meet Him again, that one-on-one precious moment, and my sincere hope is that He will reach for Me with open arms and a genuine "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, there is a place prepared for you..." I want Him to genuinely feel and know that He has a friend in me.
Thank you for all you're doing to help people come unto Christ, and strengthen our understandings and relationship with Him. He is there, always there, and as we reach out to Him, I know He answers prayer.

Millennial Choirs and Orchestras wrote an amazing, beautiful piece with multiple movements called “Messiah in America.” We were supposed to perform it this past May. The text comes from 3 Nephi. It is on RUclips so I highly recommend listening to it over and over. It helped me to see and feel and know Jesus even better. I can also see the parallels of what is happening in our day. We are seeing the signs but I think we’re afraid to hope that He is coming sooner rather than later. There might be some disputations and down-playing of the signs, but we should prepare now. The worst that can happen is that we’ll be even more prepared, right? :)

    Emily,
I could not believe my ears when you spoke about wondering what it would be like to meet the Lord. And when you said the Spirit whispered to your heart, “you have”. And how you thought huh??
I had the same experience and it is such a confirmation to me and neat blessing to hear you share this!
This is my journal entry I’d like to share with you on my experience:
    June 3rd:
Asking God again, “when shall I see the Saviors face?” ...
Because one day praying and asking that, I thought I had it come to my mind “you’ve already seen him..” that of course was strange to me.. I have thought and inquired of the Lord a few times since then asking the same question; and, if that answer that came to my mind was really from God or from my own mind. Each time Id get a stupor Of thought so I let it go deciding it wasn’t what the Lord wanted me to be focusing on at that time.
But last night I received inspiration to think on in what ways have I seen God? So I thought on that. (The spirit nudged me to really answer this question) so I thought of the ways Ive “seen” the Lord.. through various times I’ve felt the Spirit like in prayer, a show depicting the Savior, a song, words from the prophet, singing certain songs myself, and having memories come to my mind that impress upon my mind heavenly things; and when receiving greater revelation. I then received this great wisdom:
*”First you must recognize him spiritually; then you will recognize him in the flesh..”

Thank you David and Emily. I looked forward to listening each week. What your say gives me much to think about.
I want to adress what Emily said "dying is a painful process". I appreciate so much how she talks about being there with her friend Kris. As a society I don't think we talk enough about death and therefore most of us don't understand it very well. In the past few years I spent the last weeks of my parents life with them taking care of them in hospice. Dying was a lot of work for both of them but not painful for my mother. I believe the the pain some people experience in dying is because of the reason (condition) they are dying. Thanks again for sharing these sweet experiences with Kris and talking about death and dying. I want people to know that not all people experience pain as they are dying.

With all the positive comments posted above I kind of hesitate to share mine, but I feel that something needs to be said and I hope that people can feel the spirit of what I'm trying to say. I don't believe it is wise to discredit something that Christ says to push a certain perception of him. When he says that he caused the destruction it is because he had reason to cause it. The wickedness that was prevalent in those cities he destroyed was explained by him. By explaining away what he said as some literary term, in a sense, you take hope away from people that have had a lot of injustice happened to them. Being one that has had to deal with a lot of injustice in my life, I have to hope that Christ is merciful as well as one who will see that justice is done. In D&C, Christ says that when he says something it happens and I don't think he meant it in literary terms. With all the wickedness there is in this world caused by wicked people I have to believe that God is just and he will fulfill his words about how he will deal with the wicked. Do I believe he is merciful, absolutely. I wouldn't have been able to make it without that knowledge and to those who see him the is merciful without end, but he is just and for those who seek to do Satan's will, according to Christ's words, destruction is their reward.

    • @rhysofthenewt
      @rhysofthenewt 4 года назад +2

I agree. I think the mercy is that He begs us to repent. He warns us over and over because the victims’ blood is crying out for justice. We can repent and we can forgive, which alleviates the need for that destruction. But He has to meet the demands of justice and if we don’t choose to forgive or choose to repent, He has no choice.

I just read this this morning in David Ridges "Book of Mormon Made Easier" that goes along with what you said: "Occasionally you hear someone claim that God himself does not punish His wayward children...rather He withdraws from them and lets Satan punish and destroy them... While that is certainly the case in many instances, it is definitely not always the case. As you will clearly see in these verses, the Lord himself caused the destruction of many cities (read the verses where it says "I"). "Disciplining and punishing, when the occasion demands, is an integral part of parenting"

Charie Campbell thank you for sharing this. In that chapter, five times he said: “that the blood of the prophets and the saints shall not come any more unto me against them.” Five times! To me this is the meaning of a Just God! He protects his own! That is a God of love. He also stated that there was no righteousness left in those cities. Therefore they were all as it stated in the first verse where it states: “the devil laugheth and his angels rejoice.” Those cities were laughing and rejoicing in the killing, stoning, etc. Of righteous people, God’s people. He gave them so many opportunities to repent and come back to Him! He knew they were past coming back.

3 Nephi 11:14 - I love that you highlight this verse. It IS amazing that Christ invites all to come to Him and feel His wounds. The word that comes to mind for me is intimate. These wounds are in His sides. To be invited to feel one's side brings a deep intimacy. Christ would have to be lifting His arms to allow someone to feel His wounds. Imagine Christ then putting His arms around that person. The connection would be electrifying, in my mind.

Just wanted to say thank you for your videos. I have shared many of your insights with my children in our Come, Follow Me. In return, I wanted to share something with you. David, you mentioned how vengeful and angry Christ sounds in ch 9 and 10 when he repeatedly says "I have caused." You reminded us that Christ is loving, not vengeful and suggested that when He seems other than loving, we are missing something. As I read ch 10:4-6, my attention was drawn to the verb tenses. The first is simple past. Christ invited them to remember the times He saved them from destruction (from the Gadiantons, famine, the Lamanites on back to Moses and the Lord bringing the Israelites out of bondage). Then he used a medal verb (would) showing possibility and obligation. He uses would to show what He would have done, what He wanted to do (suggesting He would have loved to have saved them this trauma and loss) but (here's the clincher:) they "would not." There would have been safety for them had they not stoned the prophets. Then in v 6, He invites them to "repent and return" and He will again protect them as He did in the past, as he would have liked to this time. For me, these verbs put all of ch 9 in context. He is always awaiting us, and in Him there is safety.

I am a little confused why people never acknowledge that being scared of Christ's return or the last days is real. When people say they are scared because of the last days, I have found that EVERY TIME it has to do with what will be going on in the world and has nothing to do with them actually being scared of Christ himself. But people always seem to think, "Well, this person is scared so they don't understand Christ." That isn't what people are saying. They are scared of their fellow man and the wickedness that will be unleashed.

Emily, thank you for sharing your tender experiences. They stir my soul.
On another note, I used to be excited for election years, but now I hate it. It’s so dividing and it’s getting worse. I keep thinking as members of the church, “if ye are ONE ye are mine.” These last days are NOT the time to be divided politically as a church. The bridegroom cometh, and if we are not found with charity, we will not be allowed to attend. If we have contention in our heart for our brothers and sisters who are not of our same political party....yikes. The cleansing will take place within the church first. We cannot be found divided! We need to love and stop bickering within our homes and on social media about how much we disagree with the other side. Choose your candidate, but chose Christ first. Excellent point. Thank you!!

A thought I had - perhaps a part of not understanding His voice comes from lack of exposure to His language (i.e. reading scriptures/listening to prophets' voices/feeling the Holy Ghost etc.) as well as perhaps He was speaking in Adamic language - which we all know but may take a minute to remember or open our ears so to speak. Emily's comment about not understanding the dr at hospital story resonated with me and similar experiences with my family's medical concerns over the years. I know medical terminology from anatomy & physiology classes I've had, but hearing it from a dr. during an emotionally distressing time is different than reading it in a textbook or remembering what you've read before and then being able to apply it to your situation immediately. You have to have a "wait" time if you will, time to remember and process. How patient and loving Jesus Christ is!

This year they are for sale at Deseret book. I can’t remember how much it was (I preordered mine last year), but there’s a study guide for every week (mostly what is on the board) plus room for your Own thoughts/impressions as you study. It’s really well done and has helped me a ton as I teach my kids each week!

Bonnie Nandino I hear you. I have severe hearing loss in my right ear and sometimes I feel like I hear.... but can’t understand what is being said. I think that is what it could be ... or maybe the language was not what we have heard since with left our premarital experience and it took a while for us to understand.

A couple of thoughts. The Lord has to allow us our free agency, so He also has to allow the consequences for our behavior and choices as well. Also, again I want to tell you how grateful I am for the take 5 cards. As my husband has been recovering in the hospital I take them up there and we read scriptures and then read the take 5 cards together and it always leads to a great gospel discussion. Thirdly, I am as excited to see what Emily will be wearing each week as I am for the lesson! LOL You wear the cutest clothes Emily! David, you have nice shirts, but, Emily's are better. Thanks for DMT!

I use my chickens for analogies all the time. We need to be more like our chickens, we need to celebrate the sunrise, run out of the house and enjoy the day, go to work and celebrate a job well done, like when they lay their egg they cackle and celebrate. Then go to roost at the end of the day and rest. And do it again the next day!

You guys are sooo lucky! We went to the temple just to sit in our car on the grounds. We just HAD to see the temple! (We live 3 hours away from one.) And they made us leave! They said we are only allowed on the grounds if we are going inside. SOOO disappointing!
